November 6, 2014: Car Wars Classic Rampages Off Into The Sunset

Car Wars Classic

For now.

Car Wars Classic has been such a huge hit that it's already gone. We're out of them, our distributors are out of them; if you can find copies in your local game stores, then you should snap them up because there aren't any more coming right now!

That said, we're on this. We're working on a reprint, and they'll be ready in the spring.

Onward to mayhem!

November 1, 2014: The Blue Santa Game Promotion

Help us donate to Blue Santa!

The holidays are approaching fast, and we know exactly what you're thinking: How do I make sure I'm not on Santa's naughty list this year?! One can take only so many years of coal . . .

Well, we're here to help! For the month of November, we'll be helping our customers get some charity donations in – and it won't cost you a dime!

Here's how it works: Go to warehouse23.com and pick any item from our donation list. When you buy a copy for yourself, a copy will automatically be donated to our favorite local Austin Christmas charity, Blue Santa. That's right: you get the game you ordered, and a second copy gets donated, free of charge! In early December, we'll assemble all the awesome gifts you guys chose, and Blue Santa will make sure they get to the kids who need them most!

The games you can pick from are:

Cthulhu Dice

Pocket Ogre

Munchkin Impossible

Munchkin Fu

Star Munchkin

Super Munchkin

Dino Hunt Dice

Trophy Buck

Castellan

Castellan International Edition

Knightmare Chess
The fine print: only products purchased between 00:01 CST 11/01/2014 and 23:59 CST 11/30/2014 qualify, and limited to the above list. Identities of recipients will remain confidential. Offer only valid for paying customers.

November 2, 2014: Crowdfunding Focus: Flat Plastic Miniatures

Flat Plastic Miniatures by Arcknight

Who doesn't love miniatures? Seriously.

But they're not always the most affordable accessory to buy, they take up a lot of space, you often have to paint them (though I gather some folks really like doing this), and so on and so forth. Counters can be pretty good, but Arcknight seem to have split the difference and made Flat Plastic Miniatures, which is a pretty clever solution.

Each miniature is a clear sheet of plastic with a full-color illustration on it, and it sits in a clear plastic base. There's a huge variety of miniatures, and the artwork is beautiful. Not only that, but for $75 you can get somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 unique minis, which is a pretty amazing bargain!

November 3, 2014: Talking Mars Attacks: The Dice Game At BGG

Our new Mars Attacks: The Dice Game is shipping to distributors and will be in stores very soon, making it almost a full year from concept to shelf. This one's been especially fun for me since it has been a chance to actually work on the creation side of games – these days the bulk of my work is in management, sales, and marketing – and seeing gamer response to the game at conventions over the last year is as rewarding as knowing that initial sales on the game are very strong.

I had so much fun watching the game come together that I decided to discuss the process in a series of posts at BoardGameGeek. While you wait for the game to reach your favorite local store you can read all about the birth and development of the game, starting with "There Was No Plan For A Mars Attacks Dice Game" and continuing on in the I In The Pyramid blog.

November 4, 2014: The Lowdown On Munchkin Legends Deluxe

Munchkin Legends Deluxe We have this game, Munchkin Legends . We think it's pretty great, and our fans seem to like it, so we made a deluxe version that has all sorts of goodies in it: a board, pawns, even a copy of Munchkin Legends 2 – Faun and Games . It's really everything you need to stomp mythical monsters and take their hard-earned loot from their twitching fingers.

Where can you get it, you ask? Well, Barnes & Noble is going to have copies of it this month, so that's a good place to start. Check out the press release for more info.

But we're not stopping there. A month later, in December, Munchkin Legends Deluxe will show up at your friendly local gaming store, too! We want to make sure that everyone who wants this game can get it, so we're making it widely available. Enjoy!

October 28, 2014: SJ Games Teams Up With Blue Santa

Blue Santa

We know it's early for Christmas, but we can never resist the opportunity to tease our fans!

Do you remember some of the specials we ran last holiday season? This year, we'll be teaming up with Blue Santa to do a special program for the holidays. Every year, Blue Santa donates toys to needy children ages 0-14. Plus it's based in Austin, near us! We think they're awesome. We're pretty sure you will too!

Keep an eye out in early November for more information! All we can say right now is, be excited, and do some introspective work: so far, are you on Santa's nice list this year, or his naughty list?

October 29, 2014: Time For Vacation!!!

Since so many projects have been successfully completed recently ( Car Wars Classic and Mars Attacks: The Dice Game reprints in progress, Munchkin Treasure Hunt launched, multiple sales meetings met and won, my new toy book off to the printer) I decided that it's time to escape. (And the staff were making those "you better get  away from me" grumbles that happen when I've been stressed crazier than usual.) So I'm leaving the country, setting sail for a long weekend away for a visit to Mexico.

My plan for time off is to unwind as much as possible by reading, playing a few games, and getting some preliminary design work completed for planned games. (Yeah, I know, vacation isn't meant to be "now we work!" time, but when it's designing new games it doesn't really count as "work," right?)

See you guys next week! Try not to buy all of our games while I'm gone; this constant need for reprints is gonna drive me crazy!

October 30, 2014: Munchkin Panic in Warehouse 23!

After playing Munchkin Panic  many times at Austin Comic Con, Nashville Comic Con, and the Munchkin Panic release party, I'm excited to finally see it in Warehouse 23!

Fireside Games ' Munchkin Panic brings  Munchkin  out of the dungeons and up defending towers. In this semi-backstabbing, semi-cooperative, tower defense board game you aim to keep the castle standing and get the most loot. And remember: towers should be defended – well, but certainly, not at your own expense!

I watched Castle Panic  fans and Munchkin  fans, as well as folks new to gaming entirely, light up when playing this excellent blend of the two games. I look forward to exposing more gamers and future-gamers to this one.

October 31, 2014: Announcing Muertoons Mix-Up

Muertoons Mix-Up

Muertoons is a really, really cool show for kids about five girls living in a Dia de los Muertos-inspired world. It's got a striking visual style, and focuses on themes of friendship and cooperation. And guess what? We're making a game based on it!

Muertoons Mix-Up , due out in 2015, is a card game based on the show, with lots of great Muertoons art, and gameplay that we think you'll like. We're really excited to get this out to the fans, and help get this show the attention it deserves.

Check out our press release for more info!

October 27, 2014: PAX Australia: It's Time!

Randy and I are just about to get on a plane to head to LAX, where we'll get on another plane, fly for (ugh) 15 or 16 hours, and land in Melbourne bright and eager to attend PAX Australia! If you're going to be there, we hope you'll come by and try out some new games or play some old favorites with us. Bonus points on Friday for anyone in a really good Halloween costume!

I've never been to Australia, so be gentle when I run away screaming from anything that slithers or has more than four limbs. Other than ophidiphobia and arachnophobia, I'm really looking forward to the trip!
