The Scabs Trilogy in my rearview mirror, and Dead Hunger long finished, I introduce Emma's Rose: The Cave! It's my new ZOMBIE series.

It has been a while since I delved into the zombie world. I really enjoyed writing the Scabs Series, but something was pulling me . Perhaps they were dead arms, peeling and gray, reaching for flesh. My flesh.

As usual my stories are character driven. Emma's Rose is no exception. I hope you enjoy the whole new cast of characters, and the new adventure, along with the new zombies.

A HUGE thanks to all of you who have read any of my work.

Now ... about me.

The words will come to you, and if they don't, keep typing or go back up the page and do some filler until the next move strikes you. I often "fill in" my previous pages if I don't quite know how to move forward. Sometimes I write my two hours per night and the last paragraph of the work I'm on never changes - but the book is 2000 words longer because I fleshed out earlier scenes. It's a way to move forward when you can't move forward. (less)

I still agree wtih that to a degree, but there will be times when the characters aren't doing their part to direct you where to go … I often rely on my characters to determine direction. But at the same time, it's kind of easy. You ask yourself: "If I were THAT character, what would I do when faced with the exact scenario?" You must put yourself in the bloodthirsty killer's shoes, the put-upon housewife's shoes, the 19-year-old college student's shoes … but wear them for a few moments and you should figure it out. Scares That Care - 2017!

Wow.

That could really sum up this weekend. Not so much for attendance or crazy sales, or anything like that.

For our friends. The people we've known by sight and word, solely from photographs and sometimes misconstrued posts on Facebook. I learned something valuable while there:

You can't judge anyone by their posts on social media. They are who they really are when you stand in front of them and ex Read more of this blog post »

“We don't see the world as it is, we see it as we are”
Anaïs Nin

“When we are young, the words are scattered all around us. As they are assembled by experience, so also are we, sentence by sentence, until the story takes shape.”
Louise Erdrich, The Plague of Doves

“What would your good do if evil didn't exist, and what would the earth look like if all the shadows disappeared?”
Mikhail Bulgakov

“So, if music is the best, what is music? Anything can be music, but it doesn't become music until someone wills it to be music, and the audience listening to it decides to perceive it as music.

Most people can't deal with that abstraction -- or don't want to. They say: "Gimme the tune. Do I like this tune? Does it sound like another tune that I like? The more familiar it is, the better I like it. Hear those three notes there? Those are the three notes I can sing along with. I like those notes very, very much. Give me a beat. Not a fancy one. Give me a GOOD BEAT -- something I can dance to. It has to go boom-bap, boom-boom-BAP. If it doesn't, I will hate it very, very much. Also, I want it right away -- and then, write me some more songs like that -- over and over and over again, because I'm really into music.”
Frank Zappa
