Georgia Congressman Claims He Didn't Know Much About Planned Parenthood Before Voting to Give Them Money

The other day I noted that Congressman Nathan Deal, back in 1993, voted to explicitly fund abortions via Planned Parenthood. I was wrong. The vote was to implicitly allow Planned Parenthood to fund abortions.

As Congressman Deal explained Monday night:

Politicians who vote to give your money to abortion providers can spin it anyway they like, but taxpayer dollars for one service frees up money elsewhere to provide abortion services"

Buried in the comments from Deal about this is not just an ...

Did the Federal Government Cause the BP Oil Spill?

Step back for a minute. It is a "known fact" that BP's actions and handling of the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon caused the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

It is an actual fact that the oil spill did not start until after the oil platform sunk.

There is a growing body of evidence that the Coast Guard and fire team handling the blaze on the platform made a series of mistakes that contributed to the oil spill. In fact, in one of the first lawsuits filed, the plaintiffs aren't even going...

Join Sarah Palin & RedState: Support Karen Handel

Sarah Palin and RedState have joined together to endorse Karen Handel for Governor of Georgia.

Karen is in a nasty runoff fight with a man who has been both a Democrat and a Republican in Washington for twenty years.

Today word comes that Karen's runoff opponent, former Congressman Nathan Deal, is under a federal investigation for his attempts to force the State of Georgia to keep business contracts with Deal's business. It's just another reason why supporting Karen Handel makes sense.

Georgia ...

Federal Grand Jury Is Investigating Former Congressman Nathan Deal

Nathan Deal and Karen Handel are locked in a nasty runoff fight for Governor in Georgia. Today comes word from the Atlanta Journal that a federal grand jury is investigating Nathan Deal.

It doesn't sound good.

The AJC reported in August 2009 that Deal personally intervened with [Georgia Revenue Commissioner Bart:] Graham and other state leaders to protect an obscure state program that earned his company nearly $300,000 a year. The newspaper's report led to a congressional ethics investigation...

Being a liberal means never having to say you're sorry [Updated with a note from Ezra]

Back in 2005, when the GOP kept getting frustrated by Democrat filibusters, the GOP came up with what they called the "constitutional option" to end the filibuster. Democrats and the media referred to it as the "nuclear option."

Well, fast forward to today and lefty Ezra Klein is all in favor of the constitutional option.*

If you can't manage the 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, you can't manage the 67 votes to change the rules and end the filibuster. At least in theory.

But in practice...

Schadenfreude Hour: Mississippi Democrats Implode

My friend Kingfish brings word of the implosion of the Mississippi Democratic Party. It is in full scale meltdown because the Chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party's wife struck up an affair with an elected Democrat.

Jamie Franks, the state chairman, is getting divorced from his wife. His wife has been having an affair with Mike Scott, the school superintendent in Lee County, MS and an elected Democratic.

Franks used his influence as chairman to pressure Scott to resign and threatened ...

The Facts About the Bush Tax Cuts

A lot of the media and all of the Democrats seem to forget one simple fact about the Bush tax cuts: they were passed in response to a recession occurring as George W. Bush and Dick Cheney entered office.

Moe Lane wrote an excellent post about the impact of the Democrats not extending the Bush tax cuts, but what about what they actually did.

We should not forget that.

The 2001 Economic Growth and Recovery Tax Act was George Bush's version of Barack Obama's stimulus plan. However, instead of...

From the mail bag

After my appearance on AC360 tonight to talk about Howard Dean calling Fox "racist," I've got quite the odd assortment of "fan" mail. This one is pretty typical:

From: Snootty Ban "somethingbad2say@gmail.com"

HAHAHAHAHA!
