A map of my characters

I've written two novels and am in the process of writing two more. Because they all exist in the same universe in the same time, I thought it would be fun to begin mapping them, since they may move around from time to time. Here's the first one, where they all are at the beginning of each book.

Kobo Aura HD Sleepcover case

Unlike most ebook readers, the Kobo Aura HD does not have a plethora of options for cases. While most Kobos, Kindles, Sony's, and Nook's fit within most 6" style cases, the Aura HD is just too big for regular cases. Kobo has two official cases: a zip-up sleeve, and this, the Sleepcover. It's $50. Here's a gallery of photos.

I like the case so far. It feels like a premium product protecting a premium product. I would have liked it more if the back were leather, so there would be even more added grip, but as it stands it's the easiest (if largest and heaviest) ebook reader on the market, and the case helps. It has the nifty iPad-like feature of going to sleep and waking up by flipping open the front leather flap.

You can see these photos in a higher-res on Flickr.

Radio Bars

Visualization experiment involving bars of different amounts of light. All four images are based off the same original art, altered by small amounts to create wildly different effects.

Lattice Issue 3 art and retina wallpapers

I usually make one cover and one wallpaper for each issue, but I liked all the variations this time around so here we go. To download, expand the image by clicking on it, then right-click it to save to your desktop.

Export Instapaper to epub on the new site

If you're using the new Instapaper site and like to export your unread articles into an epub and wonder where that feature went (all two of you, I'm sure), it's right here. Click on your name, then click "Export." There you go.

International Journal

From autumn 2006 to spring 2013, I worked on a quarterly non-partisan global affairs journal published by the Canadian International Council. I was in charge of typesetting, assisting in editing, and cover design. I designed the Summer 2011 cover entirely myself. The rest were collaborative efforts between photographer, managing editor, and myself.

Reverse Aeropress Method

My friend Eli just got an aeropress, and I asked him which method he used. He was unaware of the reverse style, so in case anyone else is, here's how you do it.

Okay, so push the suction portion into the measuring portion up to the "1." Put it upside down. Put your coffee into the measuring part.

Stir the coffee a little to make sure all the grounds get swept up in the water. I wait about 90 seconds but that parts up to you. Place the filter in the lid (I wet mine a little, when I use the paper filter.) Grab a cup.

Carefully flip the aeropress over into the cup, and push down slowly. Then fill up the cup with hot water up to your preference. Enjoy!

Twitter Background

I put this together back in June, but never uploaded anywhere except Twitter. It's the desktop background of my computer at work now.
