Herotica

One of our High St shops, the Cat and Cauldron, will be housing some work by a friend of ours (incidentally, also a close friend of Rob Holdstock's). The collection is called Herotica, which Rob named, and features erotic illustrations and artwork of gods.

We are looking forward to having the collection on board and will be launching it on Saturday July 24th - with Glastonbury's finer examples of male pulchritude dressed appropriately - so if you are in town then, do drop by.

Creative writing tutoring - repost

As some of you will know, I am now offering manuscript appraisal services. I will only be dealing with SF, Fantasy and Horror, or any related sub-genres, and will be offering:

- manuscript proposal appraisal (first three chapters and synopsis)
- full manuscript appraisal (novels and short fiction)
- submission package assessment

I can also offer tailor-made packages, depending on your needs and requirements. If you want an assessment of your initial three chapters, to see whether a manuscript is ...

Short story sale - limited edition!

The sale is ongoing, and you will now find a PayPal button at the end of this post. I would like to thank those of you who have already signed up for your support - it is greatly appreciated, and it's also been great to hear from you.

Short story sale - limited edition
I'm trying a new approach this year: directly marketing a small quantity of limited edition short fiction online. I'll be writing a series of 4 short stories (one per quarter) set in one of 3 worlds. So that's 3 new short storie...

Night Shade

I have now had royalty statements and Night Shade have issued a press release, which you can see here:

http://blogs.publishersweekly.com/blogs/genreville/?p=559

My reaction is almost identical to Brendan's - you can see his measured and thoughtful response here:

I gather from NS that the rights to any unpublished work revert to me. This is a development, and it may mean that I end up publishing the last 2 nov...

Just a quick note....

...to thank everyone for an incredible level of support so far on the publishing issue! I am on a teaching death-march at present at one of the local universities but will get back to everyone who has expressed an interest asap. I have been blown away by your very kind comments.

I'm now going to boost the signal for someone else - Brendan Halpin, aka Seamus Cooper, who has gone public on his own issues with the same publisher:

Short story sale - limited edition

I'm trying a new approach this year: directly marketing a small quantity of limited edition short fiction online. I'll be writing a series of 4 short stories (one per quarter) set in one of 3 worlds. So that's 3 new short stories per quarter:

GARNET PARK: Set in an alternative mid 20th century in which World War Two has been mainly fought in Asia and featuring Lieutenant Mary Greaves. I've always wanted to write a Sayers-esque aristocratic female sleuth, and Mary is it.

What will I be...

Summer

It is, of course, Glastonbury. We met a series of enormous executive tour buses down the tiny back lane where we walk the dogs this morning - satnav has a lot to answer for - but have been catching up with the festival on the box. I enjoyed Groove Armada, although dance music isn't normally my thing, and I thought Gorillaz did an adequate job as a last minute stand in for U2. But they're more of a concept band and not really one of the big headliners, IMO (Glasto has been rather spoiled by la...

Only Connect

Some while ago, [info:] paulcornell2 very kindly asked me if I would like to be on the team for a BBC4 quiz show, Only Connect. I said yes, although I am not a big quiz show person - we thought it would be fun to have a SF Writers team and duly roped in Geoff Ryman. The audition was yesterday, so we hiked up to West Kensington and did it - rather to our surprise (I proved to be fairly naff at the online quiz) we did quite well and the guys were brilliant (use of the word 'allotrope' may have sealed t...

Solstice Eve

Hope everyone who celebrates has a good one. We've been working this weekend, but are now back to a roast chicken, some of T's birthday wine, and the Observer Food Monthly, which I consider to be as good a way as any of celebrating the Solstice.

We will not be going anywhere near Glastonbury Tor or Stonehenge. Thank God. Or Pilton, even worse. The traffic is already building up and I imagine we will see a repeat of last year, when people abandoned their cars halfway to Bath. I have to go to L...
