The subtitle of the book, which was released this month, is Memoirs of a War Child. Sandra was ten years old when she saw her mother and six-year-old sister gunned down in a refugee camp in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Spared by the gunman, Sandra fled into the night and eventually came to the United States, where she is now a student at Mercy College in New York City. The book, which has received glowing reviews from major publications, is a riveting account of her experiences in Africa and the problems she encountered in her new life in America.
