In This Corner...
Round One of line edits complete! HOORAY! This means that I've made all the corrections that were written by my editor on the hard copy itself -- all the grammar points, deletions, change order, cuts, and being certain that I addressed all the comments and questions in the margins. I even kept note of the "overarching" points brought up in the cover letter so I could go back for...

If You Really Need Me, You Know How To Find Me
I'm taking a break from my edits to bring you this earworm, courtesy of my daughter whose current favorite girl's name is "Tallulah" and has subsequently been naming all of her dolls, drawings, storybook characters and random bits of fluff "Tallulah."*
Which, of course, only makes me think of this:
From the obscure cult classic, Bugsy Malone starring young Scott Baio & Jodie Foster. One of my all-time faves!
I can only say: "I warned you."
Enjoy!
* Evidently, this started because of a cat named Pr...

Big Reveal #2!
I can't believe I am actually saying this, but after waiting a heckuva long time, I can finally announce some Honest-to-G-d progress on my publishing journey by shouting to the world:
I GOT MY EDITS!
"YES!" says I. "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
It's hard to express how excited I am about receiving these much-longed-for nuggets of brilliance from my amazing editor, (and, honestly, I wasn't home when she sent them since I was out-of-state during the Metcalf Family Vacation-palooza Part II and had to take the w...

Just Because You Asked: The Infamous Proposal Story
How I became engaged to be married is perhaps the best story ever, all biases aside.
I'm afraid I can't do it proper justice after nearly twelve years and, truth be told, my brain wasn't really capable of coherent thought by the time it was over, so I've depended on a lot of cutting & pasting from my original spew about it back in 1999. Get comfy, my friends, and let me tell you a tale:

Big Reveal #1!
I have a bright, shiny new title! No, really, appropriately enough it *is* both bright and shiny. While my original title, SKIN & BONES, was appropriate enough given a Mexican-American girl who could remove her skin and craft others over her pearlescent skeleton in order to save people from dying before their time, (say that five times fast!), it could easily be mistaken for meaning something entirely different. Therefore, I'm proud to announce my sexy new YA title:

Feeling It on a Friday
I haz news! I haz news!
...but I shall wait to reveal it.
(No, really, there's a lot going on and it's the end of the week and, oh, I want it to sink in a while until it gets filed in the "Fact" vs. "Hope" category.) In the meantime, *TGIF*, turn up the tunes & enjoy the summer weekend!
Rock on, girlfriend! It's time to celebrate.

There...And Back Again!
I am back!
As I gather my few remaining synapses preparing for Stage Two of the great Metcalf Traveling Vacation-a-Thon, I don't really have the time to share the "oohs" and "ahhs" properly, but highlights include:
this:

Pain aux chocolat, anyone? I know I did. More than once.
and this:
Cirque du Soleil's latest show, TOTEM, was colorful, sensual and awe-inspiring.
and this:

More color! What I discovered? Myco Anna!
and this.
Les Grands Feux Loto-Quebec.
Look awesome? It was! And then I returned to... ...

Sign Off & Send Off
I'm off for a brief hiatus to be (hopefully) followed by another writerly-focused break, but in the meantime, I'll leave you with something that combines a little bit of steampunk, a little bit of sepia, a little bit of naughtiness, more than a little but of snark, some creepy carousel music and my ever-present love of automata: Herr Drosselmeyer's Doll by Abney Park.

THE REPLACEMENT
It's hard to give a review. If you've been following my GoodReads purge, you know what I mean when I say that there were books that it hurt me *not* to plunk down those five stars so I could crow about it to the world. THE REPLACEMENT by Brenna Yovanoff is one of those books. But I promised myself that I when I read a book that was so amazing that I wanted to brag about it, I would do it here with my truest reactions, sans spoilers, to properly give this book its due. So you know this is one ...

What Ghosts Taught Me
I don't believe in ghosts.
That's something I can say with conviction. It's a solid fact for me. True. And yet...I also know that there have been exceptions in my life – times when I almost believed – when voices whispered just beyond the edge of my hearing in the middle of a known "haunted" cottage, a prescient chill that felt like a touch right through layers of clothing and comforters that gave no comfort at all, and one night long ago when I was driving home late.
I'd been at my boyfriend's...
