The idea of interacting with adults made me choose the field. My experience of teaching deepens my understanding of people, but only has a ripple effect on what I write. I think I’m influenced more by what I read in my youth. I was fascinated in the classical literature and still enjoy old-fashioned themes, such as life and death, love and hate, as well as human conditions. There are too many writers to name… Reading their stories, I imagined the lives of the characters and experiences I didn’t have. I read some contemporary fiction and am willing to get inspired. :-) I guess curiosity about other human beings is my initial inspiration for writing human stories.(less)

Zoë S. Roy liked a quote
A Single Swallow by Ling Zhang
“Ferguson watched her walk out of the courtyard calmly, dust rising from the road with each firm step, her loosened hair shaking softly. This girl made all the women he’d ever known—even his mother, his sister, and his former girlfriend—seem pale and weak.”
Ling Zhang
Zoë S. Roy liked a quote
A Single Swallow by Ling Zhang
“You were smart, but there were plenty of people in the world who were smarter than you, and cleverness is sometimes the biggest obstacle. Fortunately, you were also diligent and persistent. Diligence clips the wings of cleverness, allowing it to stay firmly on the ground. Persistence grinds away the sharp edges of cleverness, not allowing it to take shortcuts through things. Cleverness thus clipped can more fully penetrate the nature of things.”

The same here, Carolyn, for accepting it. I enjoy your headshot--a cute creature wearing thick glasses that match with the large number of books you've read.

Carolyn Hi Zoë, thanks for your friend request!
