DAYS OF THUNDER 1: A Tale of Two Cities

When I first started putting this sermon together, I thought I would call it “Jerusalem, Jerusalem.” (Matthew 23)

But I decided on a different title. I am calling this “A Tale of Two Cities.” Now, you might realize that I am stealing the title from a famous book written way back in 1859 by a brother named Charles Dickens. It was about London and Paris during the French Revolution.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period…”

I think a Tale of Two Cities is a great title for today’s sermon because the two cities in John chapter 12 are two different lenses of one city called Jerusalem.  John 12 is set in the great city of Jerusalem at the time of the triumphant and promised entry of King Jesus, the Messiah, riding on a donkey as the Bible had prophesied for centuries.

In this one city we find two completely polarized groups. Complete opposites. 

Jesus’ closest friends and His most evil enemies.

People in high society and those nobody recognized.

A crowd that recognizes him as The King. A group of religious people who just want him dead.

Speaking of dead we have Lazarus being resurrected and Jesus laying his life down.

His Holiness and deity recognized and terrible accusations coming after Him.

Jewish people and Greek people.

People hearing God speak in an amazing way and others not having a clue.

People madly in love with the Lord and giving up everything they had. Then we have Judas, hating Jesus and getting all he could get.

All this at the same time, in the same place; it’s a tale of two cities both called Jerusalem and

“…in short, the period was so far like the present period…” – Charles Dickens

In this present period, you are going to have to live in the tale of two cities while serving God.

Which city are you going to be?

Supernatural sanity or anxiety and depression?

Financial favor or crashing the economy?

Security and confidence or fear and freaking out?

Are you a city set on a hill?  Or are you the ghetto of something else entirely?

Matthew 5:14 – “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

John 12:1-29 – Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. 2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.

Lazarus is a problem.   

Resurrected people are always a problem.

3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. 4 But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, 5 “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”

$100,000 and then some.

6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

Judas Iscariot is the Father of socialism, Marxism, Antifa and all things woke.

7 But Jesus said, “ Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. 8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”

Mary got the revelation that none of His closest disciples did:

“If you’ve got such an agenda to hang out with and help the poor, you can do that for the rest of your life. Right now, make a big deal out of hanging out with me.”

9 Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

(The Triumphal Entry) 12 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:

“Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!” 14 Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”

That’s Zechariah 9:9.

“On a donkey” means he’s coming in peace. On a horse means he’s coming in war mode.

16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

There were things that made sense later that didn’t make sense in that moment.

17 Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. 18 For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign. 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “ You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”

So the last 6 days of the life of Jesus, Lazarus was front and center wherever Jesus was publicly. Jesus had made him famous! But the Lord is using this as proof of the miraculous event of the resurrection so there is a way for them to have hope and believe in His resurrection after he has died.

The Fruitful Grain of Wheat

20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. 21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus. 23 But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.

What we are going to find out is that for Christ to be glorified, life has to triumph over death. Something has to die and resurrection power has to be made manifest.

24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.

He’s saying it’s not time for Him to meet with the Greeks and go to all the world; it won’t be until he dies.

25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

When the crowds of Jerusalem were saying, “Hosanna! Hosanna!” and throwing babies in the air, Jesus was dealing with the reality of death and resurrection. They are thinking “Party! Party! Party!’ but he knows that in a few days they will be saying, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” He knows it’s going to be bad and horrible.

(Jesus Predicts His Death on the Cross) 27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

This is a timeless statement.

“I have laid it down and picked it up. I am about to lay it down and pick it up. I’m going to lay it down and pick it up again.”

29 Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “ An angel has spoken to Him.”

One group heard what was said and knew it was God.

Another group knew it was supernatural but that’s all they knew.

And another group said it thundered.

God is speaking

You’ve got to believe you can hear Him.

He’s the greatest communicator ever.

You don’t trust your ability to hear. You trust in His ability to reach you.

Little Judah

They said he was non-verbal but Peace had to speak 7 languages to him before he began to respond.

He spoke a language the people who loved him had to discover.

God knows your language.

Know this: God judges your mental actions just the same as He judges your physical actions. If you don’t believe it, let these scriptures invade your soul:

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. – Psalms 19:14

The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord,

But the words of the pure are pleasant. – Proverbs 15:26

O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness,

That you may be saved.

How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you? – Jeremiah 4:14

“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.” – 1 Chronicles 28:9

Are you seriously serving God in your thinking so that your mind is acceptable in His sight? Just know this: In Genesis 5, God found the thoughts of man to be continually evil both day and night. Because of this, He sent judgment. He didn’t have to wait until their thoughts became actions and they crossed the line between righteousness and sin. 

Your thoughts matter to God as much as your actions. Learn to control them for His glory.

THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in Jesus’ name that God is doing a new work in my walk with peace. I have the authority that breaks the spirit of chaos. I am positioned as a warrior who walks in peace and takes the Kingdom of God wherever I go. 

THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR

For my dad’s 66th birthday, I took him on a 500 mile tour of historic Texas battlefields. My dad is a huge Texas history buff, and he passed that love down to his favorite son.

We went to the old Coleman house, where Elizabeth Coleman and her oldest son were killed by 300 raiding Comanches. We saw the battle site at Brushy Creek, where Edward Burleson avenged the death of his brother. 

We walked the hallowed ground of the Alamo and breathed in the sweet smell of freedom at San Jacinto. Washington on the Brazos and San Fillip also made the list. 

When it was all said and done, I dubbed our tour “The Way of the Warrior.”

You see, my love of battlefields isn’t just from my Brewer blood. It’s also from the bloodline of Jesus.

Jesus is a king. But make no mistake – He is a warrior king!

…But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. – Revelation 21:8

This scripture tells me there are no wimps or cowards in heaven. That makes heaven all the more glorious to me! As joint heirs with Jesus (Romans 8:17), you and I are also warriors. So what is the way we warriors should follow?

1. We are not spectators. We are warriors. We don’t listen to stories of God’s power. We tell them.

2) Comfort kills! Jesus says in Luke 10:3 that He is sending us out as lambs among wolves, not as potatoes upon couches. We are not tourists on vacation, and life is not a perpetual spa experience. 

3) We are called to be peace makers, not peace keepers! UN peacekeeping forces have stood by and watched the slaughter of millions. I would rather be a Texas Ranger. The Rangers used pistols called peace makers – they didn’t make deals with monsters or negotiate with the enemy. They put the enemy down!

4) We do not have to be defeated by a defeated devil. We can discourage him by our faith, demoralize him with our joy and depress him with our endurance. 

What you might not realize is there is more victory attached to you that you can even imagine. Pull on your boots and take a step on the warrior way!

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in Jesus’ name I have the shalom of the Lord. The authority to break the spirit of chaos is mine. I am a child of the King. He has dominion in my mind, my mouth, my relationships and my life. 

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Jesus-driven thinking helps and heals. This is what the Bible has to say on the subject:

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

The Cherokee nation knew it too. Check out this spot-on tribal tale:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He told the boy, “A terrible fight is going on inside me. It is a fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and self-doubt.”

The old man continued: “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

He then told the boy, “This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The wise old chief replied, “The one you feed.”

What wolf have you been feeding? Just know the wolf of evil thoughts will eventually devour you, and likely others as well. Thoughts become actions and there is always collateral damage.

That’s not you! You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.

VALUES FOR FORWARD LIVING FOLKS

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in Jesus’ name God calls me Holy. I was created to be set apart for His purposes. I don’t listen to the voices saying I am less.  I am a child of the One True God and I am set apart for His assignment.

VALUES FOR FORWARD LIVING FOLKS

When you’re a child of God, you must learn to value what your heavenly Father values. So what does He value? Good question!

1) The presence of God. This is personal encounter. It’s here you learn to become completely dependent on His manifest presence in your life. You make a big deal out of seeking Him and finding Him. You want Him in every part of your life and want to know what He thinks because you want to be in agreement with Him.

2) The Word of God. This is all about personal communication. You need to have a huge value for His Word, both spoken and written. I love hearing Him speak to me – and He uses numbers, stars, dreams, visions, music, encounter and prophecy in addition to the Bible. Learn to hear Him in these things! 

3) Mystery and waiting. This is about strategy and decisive action. At times, you are responsible for partnering with Him to plan and make strategic moves. You’re also responsible for waiting on Him in things you don’t even known how to articulate. You will value daring to step into the unknown and celebrate your progression.

4) Supernatural experience. Those who truly live life forward do so knowing that nothing is impossible because of Jesus Christ. It is perfectly natural to live supernatural lives and you should refuse to consider any other notion.

When you value these four things, nothing is impossible! You will bring heaven to earth and people will see the goodness of God. This is how people get saved. God’s goodness overcomes the evil in their lives.

Jesus gave them this answer: ‘Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. – John 5:19-20

So value what God values and bring someone to the Father today!

DOUBTING THOMAS?

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in the name of Jesus will no longer strain for acceptance and worry about how things look. The Word simply instructs me to ask, seek and knock to find the open door to fulfill my needs. The Lord will open the door I need!

DOUBTING THOMAS? 

Thomas gets a raw deal in history. When he wasn’t in the upper room when Jesus first appeared to the disciples, Thomas was skeptical despite the testimony of his friends. You and I would likely be skeptical too. That doesn’t mean he should be labeled as the perennial doubter.

Feel like you doubt God too often? Do you tend to fall away when something bad happens or life gets hard? Feel like God is punishing you for something? He’s not. God’s not mad at you, so prove it to yourself! Pull out some paper and make a list of the following things:

1) The promises God has given you. It will keep you in times of trouble.

2) The miracles God has done in your life. This list will keep you trusting God.

3) The privileges and things you love about your life. This will keep you thankful.

4) The prayers God has answered in your life. It will help you continue to pray.

5) Testimonies of things that have happened in the lives of others. This helps you see how personal God is and what great things He is capable of doing.

6) The people God has put in your path who teach, encourage and help you become closer to the Lord.

This is your list of ready answers when your mind wants to doubt the love of God in your life. 

If there is one thing we should never doubt, it is the love of God. He proved it when the Word left heaven to become a baby named Jesus. He proved it again when Jesus pointed to the Father and showed His compassion through teaching and healing. And He proved it a third time on Calvary as He was physically tortured and spiritually separated from the Father on the cross.

Praise God for His resurrection and the hope of eternity it brings! There’s no reason to doubt!

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declared in Jesus’ name I am prepared for a new day. I leave my mistakes and disappointments behind. I have brought them all to the feet of Jesus. My heart is full of repentance and I will receive the latter rains in my life.

PREPARE FOR DROUGHT

God hates it when we call evil “good.” When goodness is not celebrated, when vanity is worshipped, drought and judgment are the result.

“…You have polluted the land with your harlotries and your wickedness. Therefore, the showers have been withheld, and there was been no latter rain. You have had a harlot’s forehead; You refuse to be ashamed.” – Jeremiah 3:2-3

I think it’s amazing that just one month after America celebrated the lie of Bruce Jenner becoming a woman whose new name, Caitlyn, means “pure,” it was announced by Scientific American magazine that California was suffering from the greatest drought in recorded history.

In the article, writer Dan Baum said the “drought is transforming California in almost every conceivable way: meteorologically, geologically, biologically, agriculturally, socially, economically and politically.”

Yes, when you pollute the land with harlotries and refuse to be ashamed, it brings a game-changing drought that even science magazines will report. It’s a rehash of 1 Kings 17-18 and the sins of King Ahab and his idol worshipping queen, Jezebel, a name that means “not exalted.” 

God cursed Israel with a devastating drought when Ahab and his evil queen led the nation into full fledged worship of Baal and Asherah. A false god and goddess made in the image of men’s evil hearts, Baal and Asherah demanded the sacrifice of children, sexual immorality and the rape of women.

The prophet Elijah warned the king of God’s displeasure. When Ahab, weakened by his dark queen, refused to be ashamed and turn from his wicked ways, God sent judgment. 

Drought and famine hit like a hammer. Three years and many lives later, Elijah, proving once and for all that Baal was a false god by calling down fire from heaven, brought the disaster to an end. When the people saw this and repented, a rain cloud appeared. It grew and drenched the land.

Are you prepared for a drought of goodness in America? It’s already happening. Goodness is seen as evil and Christians are quickly becoming the enemy. Fear not! Do good anyway!

Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your ways. – Psalm 119:37

It seems the whole world these days is crazy about crypto currency. So what is it and how does digital currency fit in with the book of Revelation and end time prophecy?

WHAT IS CRYPTO CURRENCY?

Crypto currency is “money” that is completely virtual and is NOT distributed or regulated by a centralized government. The “crypto” part of cryptocurrency refers to the heavy cryptography (encoding) used to request, confirm, and record the transactions within the context of a decentralized system. THE WORD “CRYPT” ALSO REFERS TO A GRAVE!!!

Created in 2009, BITCOIN is the most popular cryptocurrency. 

Bitcoins are “earned” by computers that solve complex mathematical problems in banking transactions. It’s like finding a one-fourth of a penny and adding it to millions of other one-fourth pennies. This process is called “mining” and is often done in series of mainframes dedicated to that purpose.

Satoshi – quick witted, wise, intelligent

Nakamoto – central 

MEANING: CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE (Japanese say last name first)

• Creator carefully regulates how many new bitcoins will be “minted”

• The number decreases by half every four years. 

• Only 21 million bitcoins will be available.  

⁃ 21: light of truth; God’s manifest Spirit; end of distress

ADVANTAGES

Two parties can exchange payment without the use of a third party – such as PayPal, VISA, banks, or the federal government–to validate the worth of the currency. By replacing the third party with cryptographic proof of the transaction, both parties can remain completely anonymous. FREEDOM is the goal here.

CRYPTO AND END TIMES PROPHECY

Remember, independent crypto cuts out the third party and can be exchanged anonymously. 

This is the opposite of the Beast System of total control during the Tribulation period.

FORERUNNER SEASONS: LOOK AT THE GAS PUMP, THE GROCERY RECEIPT OR THE NEWS. LIKE WE SAID LAST WEEK, WE HAVE ENTERED A FORERUNNER BLACK HORSE SEASON OF HYPER INFLATION AS WORLD ECONOMIC SYSTEMS ARE BEING PURPOSELY CRASHED BY GLOBAL ELITES AND LARGE CORPORATIONS WITH THE HELP OF OUR OWN GOVERNMENTS.

THE SECOND BEAST – THE BEAST FROM THE EARTH – BRINGS THE ONE WORLD CURRENCY

Revelation 13:16-18 – He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.

THIS IS THE ONLY TIME IN WORLD HISTORY WHEN A SINGLE GLOBAL CURRENCY IS ACTUALLY POSSIBLE! 

HOW? DIGITAL MONEY MUST BE TRANSFERRED IN REAL TIME AROUND THE GLOBE. IT CAN BE TRACKED, TURNED OFF AND ON AND USED TO CONTROL THE MASSES OR THE INDIVIDUAL. 

IS CRYPTO CURRENCY PART OF THE BEAST ECONOMIC SYSTEM? LISTEN TO WHAT ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN THE AMERICAN ECONOMIC SYSTEM HAD TO SAY AT THE 2022 WORLD GOVERNMENT SUMMIT.
