Day 31 - and Final

So yesterday was day 31.

I ended up not writing at all but formatting my three prior novellas into an ebook collection. Not to go all self-promotional but for anyone who might be interested it's called PIN MONEY and available now.

How I ended up the month. Total fiction in the new novel. 71,000 words.

In a short story I started I write 5,700

So a total of 76,700 words of fiction written.

The manuscript is written beginning to end, but with a lot of holes and weak spots, particularly in the middle that I need to fix or add. I have maybe two or three scenes I'll still need to write but I know where they go and what they consist of. I figure another 4-6k words will do it giving me 75-77k in the finished first draft. and another 10-15k to add in the second as I flesh out scenes and bring me to my 90k total (give or take).

I also redid edits and formated a novella and the aforementioned collection and put both up for sale this month. All in all I'm happy with the month's work and want to thank those of you who stopped by to comment and encourage me. It was helpful and appreciated. I'm hoping to have the entire novel wrapped up and to my editor by the end of the month or beginning of Oct.

I may pop in here to tell you all how I"m doing but I won't bore you with a day-to-day rundown. Thanks again everyone and happy (and successful) writing to all.

Day 30

I wrote 4600 words, brought the total in the WIP to 71,000. I know I started out planning 90k in 30 days, but since August has 31 days, I'm going to take that one, too, to see if I can crack 75k in a month.

Day 29

Today was my best writing day of the month. I'm stuck on how best to write a particular scene so I jumped ahead to my end, (skipping around is not something I usually do) and powered through it, a big climatic action scene(s) and wrote 5900 words and bring the total WIP up to 66,900.

I still won't reach 90k, and maybe not even 75k (my fall back goal) by month's end), but I'm pleased with how the novel's shaping up.

Day 28

Had a great writing day today. Managed 4700 words and that brings my 28 day total to 60,500.

While I'll be shy the 90k I'd planned for by Saturday. I'm still pushing hard for 75k.

I'm coming to the end of several subplots and the ending is firm in my mind so I anticipate (if life doesn't intrude) really sppeding up over the next three days and getting to 75 and probably having the first draft done there, with a lot of holes in the middle to fill, repair, etc.

Day 27

A good start. I worked out for the first time in a week and that felt good.

Wrote 1100 words in one 1&1/2 hour session then lost several hours grocery shopping and talking with my kids about the one hundred and two details involved with getting ready to go to school.

Managed another 1300 word session this afternoon for a total of 2400 new words, a total I"d be happy with normally, but a little bummed because of my goal. Anyway, 55,800 all in for the month, over 27 days.

For the writers here

An interesting interview with Joss Whedon on being prolific.

Day 26

I've been gone but now I'm back.

Quick run down--Day 21 I got hit with some sort of stomach bug or food poisoning and was down for the the count the entire day.

Day 22-25 I was away visiting family in PA & NJ. Mainly watching my daughter who is a competitive hunter-jumper. Great four days spent not working.

Day 26 (today) 2000 words all in. My project total is 53,400. Way below goal but I'm planning on powering through until the 31 to see how far I can get. At this point if I can get to 75,000 I'll be happy.

Three Day Catch-up

It appears I've been a bit remiss in posting, my last entry being on the 17th.

So here's the details--

Day 18 - I wrote 3600 words
Day 19 - I wrote 1100 words
Day 20 - I wrote 3700 words

That brings my WIP total up to 51,400 so I'm still about three days behind schedule (I should have broken 60k today and didn't).

Normally with only ten days to go, I'd be confident I could still get to 90k by day 30 but as I think I mentioned, I've got an (unplanned when I started out) four day trip coming up and I don't see getting any writing getting done during it, unfortunately. But I'll keep pushing and get as far as I can which is the whole point of setting the goal anyway, and I'm much further along on this project at a faster rate than any I've ever done before.

Day 17

Day 17

Okay writing day but with less than stellar production because of some back and forth re-writes as I went along. At the end of the day only 2400 words done, bringing my 17 day total to 43,000.

Day 15 & 16

Looks like I missed posting day 15 here--I wrote 2800 words, below goal by a little.

Day 16

It's late. I wrote 4600 words today. If you've been following You can see I'm a little behind schedule. Should be at 48,000 words at this point but am only at 40,600.

That wouldn't be too terrible except I know I'm about to lose four days because of a trip next week to PA/NJ. A family thing. So with that in mind, I'm pushing to get 4500 words done per day until I leave. The pressure's mounting.
