The ceiling was double height, with subdued lighting casting shadows into the small enclaves and intimate seating areas. She figured the layout had been specifically designed to give the best possible views of the revolving stage, complete with an iron fretwork slave cage.

First, I’d really like to thank Jan Bowles for inviting me to answer a few questions for the readers.  She’s one of my favorite authors and I’ve been reading her books for quite some time, so for me to be writing here is a delight.  I think I’ve read just about all her books and each one gave me such pleasure.

Debbie , thank you, ((blushes profusely)). I don't normally butt in, but I couldn't help myself. Now to the questions...

Q.  How did you come to be published by Siren?

A.  I’ve been writing for myself for years, but it wasn’t until I finally allowed a friend of mine to read one of my stories. After he read it he told me that if I didn’t send it in that he would, so I screwed up my courage and sent in to Siren. I had been buying books from them for a couple of years so it seemed to be the appropriate publisher to start with.

Q. Tell us about your latest book.

A. Stephanie’ Homecoming {Men of Kinsey 4} is a MFM story set in the fictional town of Kinsey, Alberta, Canada.  It is the story that a great many of my readers have said that they wanted to see.  One of the main heroes in this story had played a part in a couple of my previous books and many felt they really liked him.  Kane. a strong but gentle Dom, has loved Stephanie for over ten years but when she ran away, after another woman set her up, he realizes that maybe she was too young and innocent to walk in his world.  Turk, shows him, once Stephanie comes back, that she is more than able to handle anything that either of them want from her.

Q. What makes Kane and Turk such great heroes?

A. I think one of the reasons that Kane makes such a great hero is because he’s truly not afraid to show how he feels, especially to the people he cares about.  He’s a strong, dominant man who is what I’ve always perceived to be a “gentle giant”.  Turk balances Kane out.  He’s very playful and tends to take life less seriously than Kane but when it comes to bedroom games they are very similar. Both men will protect their friends and family, (whether they like it or not) without hesitation.

Q. Do you have anything in common with your characters?

A. With some of my heroines I do.  With my first book, Sienna’s Submission, I found I had less in common with her that I did with my second heroine in For Tia’s Pleasure.  Having been through some of the conflicts that they have and having dealt with a lot of victims of violence, I know where they are coming from. Some of my readers told me that my heroines cry too much but I see it as them having emotional breakthrough.   It’s a step by step and day by day process that for some can take years.  

I do try to give all my heroines a great sense of humor which is something that I like about myself.  I love to laugh and find that even in the darkest of times laughter can pull you through. 
                                                                                               
Q. What are you currently working on, or what’s on the horizon?

A. I am still writing the next two in the Men of Kinsey series but I also have another book that I’m working on from my Featherstone Pack series.  I absolutely love reading and writing about the paranormals and the way they interact and react to the ‘normal’ humans of our world. 

Q. What’s the strangest (bravest, funniest etc) thing you’ve ever done?

A. I once dared two police officers to arrest me and my friends.  We were coming out of a nightclub and during the few hours that we were there a big dump of snow happened. This was really unusual for our area and since we’d both been drinking we called a cab.  The cab company was really busy that night so we had to wait for more than an hour but before our cab arrived a police cruiser came through the parking lot and the two cops inside asked if we needed anything.  Having had way too much to drink I walked over to the car and asked them to give us a ride home but being on duty they weren’t allowed to just give us a ride.  The only way we could get in their cruiser was for them to arrest us.  So I kicked the side of their car and dared them to arrest us.  Luckily our cab pulled up and my friends dragged me inside.

Q. What do you do when you’re not writing?

A.  When I’m not writing I love spending time with my kids, my son is 13 and my goddaughter, (whom I just got full custody of) she’s 12.

Over this last year I’ve experienced some pretty strange health issues.  I lost my hearing and had to get a hearing aid to be able to hear at all.  Then I developed cataracts on both eyes. One, I’m completely blind in and the other is well on the way to being in the same shape. In Canada where I live, we have a universal health care system but that also means longer waiting periods so I can’t get eye surgery until the beginning of 2013.  Life is just full of bumps along the way.

Q. How can you fans find you on the net?

A. I have three books out on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and for those in Canada, the first two in the Men of Kinsey series is available through Chapters/Indigo. Q. Where did you get the idea for, Foolish Desire?

Foolish Desire is the fourth book in the Naughty Holiday List series. I’ve had a rough idea of all the characters stories since the series began with Naughty List. Even from our first meeting, Amy is the shy friend, and I loved the idea that she would be into something as crazy as exhibitionism. But I had no idea what I was getting myself into with that idea.

Q. Tell us a bit about the hero and heroine in, Foolish Desire.

Amy Spear, the heroine of Foolish Desire, is very shy. She’s artistic and fun, but prefers fading into the background. That’s why she works in the backstage of the theater. That is until Will comes into the picture and he forces her out of the shadows.

Will Long is your classic class clown. He makes cheesy jokes, loves being the center of attention. He’s the local weather man and has never had a problem with anyone laughing at him, until he meets Amy. He thinks she needs someone serious, not a goofball like him. But he’s completely wrong. A little laughing and an April Fool’s joke gone too far is exactly what she needs.

Q. What are you working on right now and what can we expect from you next?

Right now I’m trudging through my edits for my February release, Wandering Off the Path. It’s the first story in my new bound by fairytales series, which are smoking hot retellings of your favorite fairytales, with a little bondage thrown in.

Q. Name three of your favorite things.

Really bad for you food (cheese fries are one of my favorites, but really anything you do with cheese gets me excited), really great books and my fur babies. Notice I say fur babies, they aren’t just cats, they’re people to me.

Q. What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome in your writing?

I don’t think I’ve suffered any different obstacles than anyone else. Mostly just self-confidence issues and time management. But if you don’t have those, you’re not a writer. 

Q. Did you always want to become a writer?  

Yup, as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are sitting at my grandmother’s big dining room table, typing my book on her old typewriter. She was my first supporter and first reader.

Q. If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

My grandmother. She’s been gone for almost twenty years now and it would be great to meet up with her again and talk to her about all the grown up things I never got to speak to her about.


Q. Where do you get the inspirations for your books? 

I get inspiration from all over the place. The idea of the naughty holiday lists came from an episode of Oprah, when she was talking about the secret. I’ve also received inspiration from other books, television shows and movies. The idea for Wandering Off the Path came from a group writing prompt. I’ve been very lucky, my muse is very giving, on everything but time.

Q. Do you prefer stand-alone books or series (As a reader or a writer) ? 

I’m a big series fan, as a reader and a writer. I enjoy seeing the characters that I love again and again, whether they’re important players or merely drifting through the new book. 


Q. If you could change places with one character from your book, who would it be and why?  

Mallory. She’s my only character so far to end up with two boyfriends, though she won’t be the last. **wink** They’re rock stars, and I think it would be awesome to spend my days traveling the world while they tour, and spending my nights with Gabe and Lincoln.

Q. Do you listen to music while you are writing, and if so what music is it?  

I have to listen to something when I’m writing. I often listen to music (if you go to my website most of my books have soundtracks of the songs that inspired the work). I also been known to have the TV on and even to listen to books on tape while I write. I always need noise, to drown out the real world.

Q. How may readers contact you?

Q. Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

Never stop trying. Wandering Off the Path, my February release, was rewritten hundreds of times. I submitted it over and over, and I only received rejections. But I just couldn’t let the story die. I love the characters too much. I rewrote it again, resubmit it again, and it was finally picked up by an amazing publisher. I’ve never been so proud of another work.

Just because one person says no, doesn’t mean your work isn’t good. It just means it’s not good for them. Keep trying, keep pushing, keep writing, and eventually you’ll find our place.
