This was always one of my favourite Heyers, so I was looking forward to reading it again - once more after quite a gap. Alas, I was doomed to be disappointed. I have two gripes, one big and one small. Starting with the small. This struck me as a book ...more |

This was an entertaining and informative read, looking at the development of popular culture in the (long) Victorian era. I was particularly interested in the earlier chapters on gin palaces and music halls. Gin palaces, I learned, had their roots in ...more |

“Do you miss wearing your kilt?" she asked.
"In London, it caused more bother than it was worth. Ladies either found it indecent or intriguing. A fair few found it to be both. I was never quite sure whether it was indecently intriguing or intriguingly indecent!”

“I kissed you," Finlay said roughly. "for the very simple reason that you are irresistible."
"I think that is what is known as serendipity," Isabella replied, "for it's the very same reason I kissed you back."
"Serendipity," Finlay said, sliding his arm around her waist. "I've always wondered what it tasted like."
"Strawberries, and lavender, and vintage wine, I believe is how you described it."
"No," he said decidedly. "It tastes of nothing other than essence of you. The most intoxicating and delicious taste imaginable.”

Lovely to see you here.

Wow, I didn't even know that Walmart still stocked Harlequin Historicals. So wierd sometimes, hearing that someone so far away has bought my book, I can never get used to it. So thank you, and I really hope you enjoy it.
