Trauma Validation – The Climb #553

Friday 28th August 2020

Craig and I had a long Facetime chat today.  I asked him for access to his CCTV so I could get video of the incident.

I often joke that if something really bad happens you should get a picture of the injury.  I say this after leggeddon.  My reasoning is that if the split second it takes to get the picture is going to make a difference you’re probably going to die anyway, and if it doesn’t you’re going to want some evidence to show to people down the road.

This… however, w...

Petsitting – The Climb #552

Thursday 27th August 2020

I love animals.  I think pet ownership is a responsibility.  And this is why I don’t have any.  I’m not responsible enough.

My theory is that you have a plant.  If you don’t kill the plant, you’re allowed something like a goldfish or hamster.  From there you can go to something like a cat, and then to a dog.  And only then are you responsible enough to have a child.  I can’t keep a plant alive.

So in petsitting while Craig’s in hospital, I feel an immense sense of respo...

Trauma – The Climb #551

Wednesday 26th August 2020

It’s a good job that I took a load of photos for The Climb when I went to Uffington the other week.  I’m writing this several days on and haven’t even thought about taking a daily photo.

Today was quite traumatic, and ended up with a loved one in a serious burns unit.

Everything started so innocently.  While I was working from home, he popped round to borrow my saw.  He’d had a small tree blow over in the gales earlier in the week and wanted to chop it up and burn it. ...

Setting Milestones – The Climb #550

Tuesday 25th August 2020

I’m slowly feeling a bit better, and by better, I mean I didn’t feel the need to take a 2 hour nap late afternoon.  I’m hoping I’ll be back to my usual self by the weekend.

I hope so as there feels like a mountain of micro tasks that I need to do in the next couple of months.  I’ve given myself some milestones and I need to balance keeping myself sane by having writing projects and getting a lot of these tasks done (which aren’t writing but are admin relating to it).

Som...

One Person’s Hero… – The Climb #549

Monday 24th August 2020

Today has been a day of continuing flair ups and gaming.  I’m expecting it to start to improve but I did have to go and have a lay down at 5pm this evening.

Today’s focus has been getting my friend to level 100 in Fortnite.  This has been a bit of a mission over the last few days, but at least it’s something I can do sat still.  We continued our work in getting all the XP coins, and this really helped get them close to the magical 100th level.  We managed it but it did ta...

Chill Gaming – The Climb #548

Sunday 24th August 2020

I’ve not been feeling great this weekend, with a flare up of some medical problems.  Luckily, the best option for me is to just chill out in front of the computer or xbox.  I did find myself going back to bed at 11am this morning though.

As a result, I’ve not been too worried about productivity the last couple of days.  Instead I’ve been doing a bit of gaming here and there and just relaxing.

However, I ended up playing a load of Fortnite this afternoon and this evening. ...

The Batman Trailer – The Climb #547

Saturday 22nd August 2020

So the first trailer for The Batman is out.

I’m very interested in this movie and not just because I’m a Batman fan.

I’ve had an interesting relationship with Batman movies.  I really didn’t like Batman Begins when it first came out.  It seemed too subtle at the time, and it’s only over the following years that I’ve learnt how this builds as an origin story.  Gotham, which is a character in its own right with Batman, was a little too “futuristic city gone bad”.  They co...

Playing With Short Stories – The Climb #546

Friday 21st August 2020

In order to relieve some of my creative boredom right now I’ve started doing some work into short stories.

Whilst I’ve had some short stories meet with success over the years, it’s not an area where I feel completely comfortable.  I’m still very hit and miss with the short stories I write.  I think it’s because, in part, I try to write short novels rather than an actual short story per say.

So it made sense to sit down today and do some research on short stories to see if...

Notetaking – The Climb #545

Thursday 20th August 2020

I wasn’t feeling at my best today and so I spent bits of the day working on organising my notes.

Effective notetaking is something I’m very interested in.  What’s the best way to distil any piece of learning into something I can refer to for future recall?  I see videos of people with these beautifully formatted notes and think A) They look wonderful B) How have they the time to do that?

As much as I want my notes to look beautiful, I’d rather find a happy medium where ...
