Torture Legs
After a few weeks of having the leg dressing free, I’ve now moved into compression. I think the idea is to ensure the blood pressure stays constant whilst the leg continues to heal. However, I’ve been like a bear with a sore head with these.
I don’t like anything touching my legs at the best of times, even some pairs of trousers are too abrasive on my damaged skin, so to have something akin to an elastic band all the way down the legs gives me constant pain. Not the sort of pain that you get w...

Plotting About Plots
I’ve heard it said that each book presents its own challenges and for this one, I think I am going to remember it for the second act. I’ve written it twice now and both times, it is off, the first breaking the cannon of the universe, the second languishing in the passivity of the characters.
Normally when there are problems with the writing I strip it all back; I go with a notebook and pen to somewhere quiet, away from the internet, and write the scene by hand. But this time the problem is a l...

The Health Recovery Daily List
I’m having a bit of a shit day. Went to the Doctors this morning to learn how to apply my new custom made support bandages (God, they are tight, my leg feels like it’s being squeezed off me) and with it got a new list of things I must not forget to do. I hate this because, as much as I’ve done a really good job of staying on top of things, I feel a constant pressure that I’m going to forget something and my progress will all come tumbling down around me. I feel like a juggler with someone sta...

Today’s Earworm
I discovered this last night after hearing part of the soundtrack on Top Gear and not recognising it (I am a serious soundtrack nut). Reckon I’ll be picking up the soundtrack in the next couple of days as I’m really, really impressed by it. But it’s this track in particular that’s been constantly replayed.
Sometimes bits of music latch themselves to ideas inside my head and this one seems to have latched itself so firmly I reckon the last third of this track is the ‘signature tune’ of an enti...

Becoming Sir Christopher Wren
As a writer I’ve always had the sort of relationship with process that if it were a Facebook status would read “it’s complicated”.
You see, I honestly believe that any writer who doesn’t analyse what they do and try and understand with a view to improvement is never going to get anywhere. Arrogance is the quickest way to kill any career. But like many unpublished writers I spent a long time delving into “how to write” books and never felt like I got much out of them. I don’t think I was lookin...

Gothropolis Kickstarter
I might not have my finger quite so much on the action figure pulse as I once did but I do follow events. My collection is currently packed in a cargo container and I really don’t have the room for more than a couple of figures so know that if I’m thinking of buying an entire series, it has to be good. So with that in mind, I urge people to take a look at the Gothropolis Kickstarter.
Four Horsemen Studios are the guys behind the recent Masters of the Universe Classics collectors line as well a...

The 10 Miler
It’s been quite a while since I did any decent mileage walking. Last year, a bad lower back stopped a lot of long distance caching expeditions and just as I was building that back up, BOOM!, the leg exploded. The journey back to being able to do 20 – 25 mile caching walks is proving a very long one.
Over the last couple of months I’ve been carefully building my walking mileage back up, first with just a walk around the block and then round the estate. It’s been slow progress. Not only am I try...

Buy Anarchy Books, Support Teenage Cancer Trust
My editor and publisher, the esteemed Mr Andy Remic, sends word that he is doing a sponsored run tomorrow in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, and you can help support him and his nominated charity by purchasing books from the Anarchy website tomorrow (Sunday).
Not only is tomorrow the Wimbledon final but it’s also meant to be a real scorcher so if you can support him, please do so.
