I started reading these anthologies when they were in the single digits, but it never occurred to me until this year to submit a story. "Royal Daughters" is set in a fantasy version of 16th century Scotland, during the infancy of Mary, Queen of Scots. England's king was currently pursuing what was later called "the Rough Wooing," a brutal series of raids and battles in Scotland's border country, which was intended to force Scotland to send the infant queen to England to be raised as the future wife of Henry's son Edward. But Janet Kerr, the local midwife and witch, is not having any of this, and she's willing to take any help she can get.

I hope you enjoy these tales!

I'm a big supporter of reprint anthologies. For writers, they're a good way to keep short fiction circulating. They're less expensive for small press publishers to produce than anthologies with never-before-published fiction. They provide readers with a quick, inexpensive way to "audition" unfamiliar writers. So I'm always pleased when one of my stories finds its way into a reprint anthology.

"Lorelei," a historical fantasy story set on the banks of the Rhine before the coming of the Romans, is included in the recently published anthology LITERAL ILLUSIONS.

I wasn't planning to attending Gen Con this summer, but just this week the stars aligned and plans fell into place. I will be participating in the Writers' Symposium, and should have a schedule of panels and events to post within the next few days. The Candlekeep seminar on Saturday night is a great place for Forgotten Realms fans to get together, so I'll be there for most of that event.
