Mockingbirds Diaries – Episode FOUR!
Want to learn about some of the past cases the Mockingbirds have tried? Check out this latest episode in the Mockingbirds Diaries then!
Meet Linda Gerber – author of "Trance"
As part of the Girlfriend's Cyber Circuit, I am pleased to host Linda Gerber today. Her novel "TRANCE" releases this week!
Ashlyn Greenfield has always known when bad things are going to happen. Each time that familiar tingling at the back of her neck begins, she knows what's to come—a trance. She's pulled in, blindsided, an unwilling witness to a horrible upcoming event. But she's never been able to stop the event from actually occurring—not even when the vision was of her mother's fatal car accident.
When soulful Jake enters Ashlyn's life, she begins having trances about another car accident. And as her trances escalate, one thing becomes clear: it's up to her to save Jake from a near-certain death. Combining romance and suspense, Linda Gerber delivers a paranormal thriller that is unique in its ability to appeal to sci-fi and chick lit fans alike.

Daisy: If you met your 16 year old self, what piece of advice would you give her?
Lauren: Enough with the drama already. This high school stuff seriously won't matter in another year or so.
Daisy: I have created magnificent ass dents in two couches from all the writing time I log. I also have a pair of white fuzzy boot slippers that look like something a yeti might wear if yetis wore boots. What piece of clothing or item in your home would provide the necessary evidence to prove to the authorities that you are a writer if questioned?
Linda: I have a really comfortable easy chair sitting by my office window, with an adjustable roll-up laptop desk next to it (like a grown-up TV tray) so I can procrastinate work while staring out at the yard allowing nature to inspire me. I also must wear the ratty felt slippers I picked up in Germany. No sane non-writer would be caught dead in them.
Daisy:When you tell people you write books for teens, what do you say when they ask, "Oh, like Twilight?"
Linda: Yeah, I should be so lucky for my books to sell like that!
Daisy: When you're not reading or writing, where can you most likely be found?
Linda: Making dinner, doing the laundry, scrubbing the toilet or enjoying other such glamorous author-mom activities.
Daisy: Most people want to know who would play your main character if your novel became a film. But I'm a Broadway geek, so I want to know what you would call the show-stopping number from your novel when it becomes a Broadway musical.
Lauren:
"In the Numbers"
Daisy: I'm going to tweet this blog post. So tell me in 140 characters or less, why people should buy your book.
Linda: "A fast-paced, heart-wrenching paranormal thriller. Trance is addictive." – Lisa McMann, author of the best-selling WAKE series.
Thanks, Linda!

A Witchy Book!
I'm so excited for my friend Victoria Schwab! She wrote the gorgeous, enchanting, atmospheric novel THE NEAR WITCH that releases next summer and she just got her advanced galleys! Yay! So without further ado — here's the cover reveal!
Here's the blurb on her book (which I think is some of the best jacket copy EVAH!)
The Near Witch is only an old story told to frighten children.
If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company.
There are no strangers in the town of Near.
These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life. But when an actual stranger—a boy who seems to fade like smoke—appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true.
The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion. Still, he insists on helping Lexi search for them. Something tells her she can trust him.
As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi's need to know—about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about the wind that seems to speak through the walls at night, and about the history of this nameless boy.
Part fairy tale, part love story, Victoria Schwab's debut novel is entirely original yet achingly familiar: a song you heard long ago, a whisper carried by the wind, and a dream you won't soon forget.

Booklist Review!
Booklist reviewed THE MOCKINGBIRDS and liked it a lot!
"Whitney is a seasoned journalist, and she writes with smooth assurance and a propulsive rhythm as she follows Alex through the Mockingbird's trial process and its accompanying emotional storm of confusion, shame, fear, and finally, empowerment. Authentic and illuminating, this strong debut explores vital teen topics of sex and violence; crime and punishment; ineffectual authority; and the immeasurable, healing influence of friendship and love."
So yeah. Pretty psyched about that review! ESPECIALLY because I wanted to show that it's possible to write about tough topics in an uplifting way. And that's possible, I believe, by focusing on the healing.
Just 25 more days til the book comes out!

Meet Lauren Strasnick! Author of "Her & Me & You"
As part of the Girlfriend's Cyber Circuit, I am pleased to host Lauren Strasnick today. Her novel "Her & Me & You" releases this week!
First love, broken friendships, and heartache all play a part in this evocative, voice-driven novel about Alex, a girl whose world is ripped apart when her father's affair splits her family in two.
Alex moves with her mess of a mother to a new town, where she is befriended by hot, enigmatic Fred–and alternately flirted with and cold-shouldered by Fred's twin sister, Adina. Others warn Alex to steer clear of the twins, whose sibling relationship is considered abnormal at best, but there's just something about Fred–and something about Adina–that draws Alex to them and makes her want to be part of their crazy world, no matter the consequences.

Daisy: If you met your 16 year old self, what piece of advice would you give her?
Lauren: "What are you doing to your poor, precious lungs??! Stop smoking!" Also: "Stop hanging out with that super douche."
Lauren: Oh god, my crappiest clothes, which get worn daily: holey sweatpants, holey leggings, American Apparel short shorts, super long primary colored tank tops. Cute.
Daisy:When you tell people you write books for teens, what do you say when they ask, "Oh, like Twilight?"
Lauren: I say, "Right, sort of. Only no vampires. & minus 373 pages. Give or take."
Daisy: When you're not reading or writing, where can you most likely be found?
Lauren: On long walks, in grocery stores, at flea markets, in thrift stores, & in friends' kitchens, eating & drinking things.….
Daisy: Most people want to know who would play your main character if your novel became a film. But I'm a Broadway geek, so I want to know what you would call the show-stopping number from your novel when it becomes a Broadway musical.
Lauren: Holy omg, ok… how's about: "Get That Girl Away From My Brother!" It's a ballad. Sung by misunderstood twin, Adina Bishop.
Daisy: I'm going to tweet this blog post. So tell me in 140 characters or less, why people should buy your book.
Lauren: Broken friendship! Thwarted love! Twincest!
Thanks, Lauren!
