I support Girls For A Change
I believe when good things happen to you that you should give back. It's karma, it's thanks, it's gratitude. And that's why I'm so excited to be supporting the charity Girls for a Change through the release of my book THE MOCKINGBIRDS. Girls for a Change is focused on helping girls create and lead social change in their communities. Because the group aligns with the themes in my novel — taking a stand, speaking — I'm supporting a team of girls to celebrate the book's release and I will also donate a portion of my proceeds on an ongoing basis to this charity. Here's more!

The TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD inspiration
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD is one of my favorite books and one of the greatest novels ever written. In this video, I explain why I was inspired by Harper Lee's story for my own novel THE MOCKINGBIRDS.

A starred review in Publishers Weekly!
I was thrilled – thrilled, I tell ya – to hear the news that THE MOCKINGBIRDS had received a starred review in Publisher's Weekly! Here's what the esteemed book trade publication had to say about my novel: "First-time author Whitney boldly addresses date rape, vigilantism, and academic politics in an intense and timely novel, set at the elite Themis Academy…Besides showing skill in executing suspense and drama, Whitney masterfully evokes the complexity of her protagonist's emotions, particularly her intense longing to feel "normal" again."
Not too shabby, eh?
Here's the full review. (Scroll to the bottom of the page.) Plus you can ogle that little red star too. I know I am.
Meet Denise Jaden – Author of LOSING FAITH
As part of the Girlfriend's Cyber Circuit, I am pleased to host Denise Jaden today. Her novel "LOSING FAITH" is now out!
A terrible secret. A terrible fate. When Brie's sister, Faith, dies suddenly, Brie's world falls apart. As she goes through the bizarre and devastating process of mourning the sister she never understood and barely even liked, everything in her life seems to spiral farther and farther off course. Her parents are a mess, her friends don't know how to treat her, and her perfect boyfriend suddenly seems anything but. As Brie settles into her new normal, she encounters more questions than closure: Certain facts about the way Faith died just don't line up. Brie soon uncovers a dark and twisted secret about Faith's final night…a secret that puts her own life in danger.
.
Daisy: If you met your 16 year old self, what piece of advice would you give her?
Denise: Don't worry so much about what others think of you – they're probably more
worried about what others think of them than about you anyway.
Daisy: I have created magnificent ass dents in two couches from all the writing time I log. I also have a pair of white fuzzy boot slippers that look like something a yeti might wear if yetis wore boots. What piece of clothing or item in your home would provide the necessary evidence to prove to the authorities that you are a writer if questioned?
Denise: A good portion of the letter on the keys of my laptop are rubbed off so they
are barely recognizable.
Daisy:When you tell people you write books for teens, what do you say when they ask, "Oh, like Twilight?"
Denise: I tell them I write contemporary YA, so no vampires or werewolves, but still lots of mystery, intrigue, and romance. I always like to add that there's so much GREAT teen fiction these days, and it's awesome that the explosion of
Twilight brought some attention to it.
Daisy: When you're not reading or writing, where can you most likely be found?
Denise: I'm a pretty dedicated gym-goer and can usually be found there five to six mornings per week. I love to be outdoors if it's not raining (which isn't all that common in B.C.) at the park or camping, or even just in my own
backyard.
Daisy: In my first novel The Mockingbirds, a group of boarding school students form an underground justice system to right the wrongs of their peers. Looking back on your high school experience, what type of secret society did your school need the most?
Denise: I wish we'd had a secret society that would have worked to make the
cafeteria food more edible. LOL.
Daisy: Most people want to know who would play your main character if your novel became a film. But I'm a Broadway geek, so I want to know what you would call the show-stopping number from your novel when it becomes a Broadway musical.
Denise: Off The Cliff! – can you picture it – dancers on multiple levels, cartwheels
down stairs. I think it would be great!
Daisy: I'm going to tweet this blog post. So tell me in 140 characters or less, why people should buy your book.
Denise:Losing Faith is a book full of mystery and suspense, with a hint of romance.
Many twists and turns you won't expect!
Thanks, Denise!
