Be Inspired – Girls Want to Change the World!

Yesterday I visited a team of teen girls in East Palo Alto, Calif. who are working with the charitable organization Girls for a Change to help create and lead social change in their community. I love this organization and am donating a portion of all ongoing proceeds of my book sales from The Mockingbirds to Girls for a Change. If you want to know why I'm so passionate about the world Girls for a Change is doing, just check out my video interview with four teen girls who want to change the world!

For the Love of Shelf Talkers

I love shelf talkers. They're the hanging index cards that call attention to a book in a bookstore. My friend Zoe sent me a picture of the one she wrote up for my book that's on display now at the Copperfield's in Santa Rosa, Calif. Thanks Zoe and Copperfields!

PS – If you're a bookseller and want to share a picture of your shelf talker, please email me a picture to post!

Sacramento Bee Recs THE MOCKINGBIRDS

I'm thrilled to report that the Sacramento Bee cited THE MOCKINGBIRDS in an article on "Books to give the children in your life." My book was one of five young adult novels recommended!

My Ode to Mighty Leaf Green Tea and Hello Panda Cookies

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Besides kissing scenes, acknowledgments are the best part of a book to write. I just turned in mine for book 2 in The Mockingbirds yesterday and wanted to share my favorite acknowledgment. Mostly because I hope it'll help me score some freebies!

To Mighty Leaf green tea and Hello Panda cookies – I drive up the P in your P&L every day when I write. Please consider sending me a gift basket of goodies
.

And just to be clear, I'm not joking here. That really is going in the book!

Holiday Shopping on Your Mobile Phone

About half of consumers said theyre more likely to do business with a store that has a mobile friendly Web site, but only 22% of the top retailers have mobile sites. What are we waiting for? Mobile is the way of the future! In related news, consumers are watching 143 hours of TV each month.

Words that Wig You Out

At a meeting last week with my colleagues in the media business, the subject of words came up. Specifically, the subject of words that wig you out. Words like fester. Moist. Ointment. Even slacks came up. What are some icky words that wig you out?

Hello Turkey! Thank you for welcoming THE MOCKINGBIRDS!

Thrilling news! I recently learned that my fantastic, talented, tireless foreign rights agent at William Morris Endeavor sold Turkish translation rights to THE MOCKINGBIRDS! Hurrah! That means my story of social justice will be translated into Turkish for teens there to read thanks to Pegasus Publishing House. I'm so excited about my first foreign rights deal!
