Me and my (fictional) boys

I'm not someone who lies about her age. I'm 37. (Why lie? In the Internet age, the truth always comes out anyway).

But the point is, that makes me about 20 years older than the male leads I am now writing in my novels, since my novels are about teens. Of course, when I was writing THE MOCKINGBIRDS, I didn't actually think about the age gap between me and my boys, because, well, it is fiction. And maybe also because I wrote the book either in my house, on the airplane, or in the occasional...

This Week I Became "Official"

So even though I told you all about my young adult book deal with Little Brown last week, the "news" became official this week. Well, official in the sense that my deal was listed in both Publishers Marketplace, the bible of publishing dealmaking, and in "Children's Bookshelf" in Publishers Weekly.

To actually see the deal listing in these publishing news outlets made me just maybe — a tad, a tidge, a smidgen — believe this is actually happening. Let me just say — IT STILL FEELS COMPLETELY...

My novel has sold!

Once upon a time there was a girl who wanted to write books. (OK, maybe she wasn't a girl, she was in her mid-30s and still is, but she likes shoes and shopping and pedicures and other girly things). My New Gig with iMedia

If you ever wondered whether Twitter and Facebook can be truly effective business tools, let me share this story. When TVWeek announced in May that it was going online-only, I posted a Tweet about the news. Within minutes, Brad Berens with iMedia reached out to me asking if I was available for work.
