Seven Best Practices for Building an Online Presence

I recently participated in the WriteOnCon online conference for writers and presented a talk on Building an Online Presence. The talk included my "Seven Best Practices" and I'm going to share them here.

1. Be consistent online

- Blog every day or once a week or not at all. Establish the schedule for you and then stick to it.

2. Pick and choose where you want to be online
- You don't have to be on all platforms. Do you want ...

Violet's baby picture!

So hubby and I were reminiscing about the day we got our dog Violet. Who is, incidentally, the cutest dog in the world. And if you don't believe me just look at this picture he sent me to show me the dog he'd found for us at the local shelter in March 2009.

As you can imagine, the second I saw that picture in my email there was no way I could resist that dog!! We got her the next day and she's mine and I love love love her!!!

Bad Hair Days, Asparaguses and Infrared Toilets

Pursuant to my tweet yesterday about abolishing bad hair days, I would like to add that if I were elected President of Common Issues and Quandaries, I would, in addition to abolishing bad hair days, also abolish infrared toilets and asparaguses the size of miniature baseball bats.

Excellence is a habit

At the SCBWI writer's conference (Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators) last week, I had the pleasure of attending a workshop led by Jennifer Hunt, the editorial director of Little Brown Books for young readers. Yes, Little Brown is my publisher!

Things you won't see me wearing in my driveway – Bathrobes

Every morning when I walk my dog, it is inevitable. I always see at least one person leave his or her house in a bathrobe. Not only do I not believe in bathrobes — I subscribe to the "get dressed after shower" school of thought — I don't believe in wearing them outside of the four walls of one's house. So in case any paparazzo ...

How to Land an Agent

I love happy agent stories! So I thought I would share one with you from a blog reader of mine. I'm SOOOO thrilled that L.R. Giles just landed a terrific agent from the Andrea Brown agency for his young adult novel WHISPERTOWN so I did a quick interview with him on the query process. I hope this helps other writers also looking for agents. And I always want to hear these type of stories so email me anytime with them and I will share!
