My Dog, The Toaster Crumb Eater

When my cleaning guy was here a few Wednesdays ago I walked into the kitchen and saw my dog Violet patiently sitting on the kitchen floor, waiting next to him.

"Oh, how cute. Violet's hanging out with you," I said.

"Yes, she does this when I clean the toaster."

"What do you mean?"

"She sits here and waits for me to sweep the toaster crumbs to the floor and then she eats them."

"She does??? And she does this every week???"

"Oh yes. Every week."

Yep, that's my classy, toaster crumb-eating dog...

Meet Lucienne Diver – Author of REVAMPED!

As part of the Girlfriend's Cyber Circuit, I am pleased to host Lucienne Diver today. Her novel "Revamped" releases this week! It's a sequel to Vamped, which received rave reviews.

In Vamped, Gina and her minions defeated a vampire vixen, a psycho-psychic and the vampire council of Mozulla, Ohio. Gina was all ready to expose vampires to the world in all their fanged fabulosity…until the Feds arrived to sweep everything under the rug and make them an offer they couldn't refuse.
In ReVamped...

Lovely review of THE MOCKINGBIRDS by Porter Square Books in Boston

Check out this lovely review of THE MOCKINGBIRDS I found this morning from Porter Square Books in Boston! I had the chance to visit that bookstore a few weeks ago when I was on my pre-pub tour and it has a great teen book section!

"I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a realistic fiction novel that is by no means a cookie cutter romance."

Supernatural PARANORMALCY Mash-Up Winner: The Zombie Leprechaun!

Let me just say your entries were all freaking fantastic in the supernatural mashup contest to win a copy of Kiersten White's PARANORMALCY. I loved them all and there were many that made me laugh out loud, like Chanelle's "GaGaVamaid," 4ndyman's combination of "the Bull of Heaven from the Epic of Gilgamesh with the Greek nymph Callisto, who Zeus turned into a bull — the resulting monster mash-up of bull and bear would be named Dow Jones," and Liviania's "Werebat Siren," among others. But I...

As part of the Girlfriend's Cyber Circuit, I am pleased to host Kristina Springer today. Her novel "My Fake Boyfriend is Better Than Yours" released this week. Let's get to know Kristina and the book! Here's a description of the story.

Seventh grade was supposed to be fun, but Tori is having major drama with her BFF, Sienna. Sienna changed a lot over the summer—on the first day of school she's tan, confident, and full of stories about her new dreamy boyfriend. Toriknows that she's totally...

When this yeti met this yak…(Win PARANORMALCY!)

Have you ever met a yeti crossed with a yak?

Well, I haven't either. In fact, I still don't really know what a yeti is. But no matter.

Today's post is to celebrate the release of my friend Kiersten White's awesome debut novel PARANORMALCY by giving away a hardcover of the book! Her book tells the story of a 16-year-old who is tasked with tracking down all the world's paranormal creatures from vamps to hags to werewolves. So in a celebration of her book, whoever comes up with the most clever...

Bye, Bye 11,380 Words

William Faulkner has famously said "Kill your darlings" when it comes to writing. This means, of course, to be ruthless with the delete key. Writers can sometimes fall in love with words, scenes, characters, turns of phrase. But if they don't serve the story, you must slaughter them.

To wit – I am about to delete 11,380 words from my current manuscript as I embark on the Great Revision of September 2010. This will be the first act of literary murder I commit while working with my current...

My Actress!

As some of you may know, I just "directed" and shot a Web video series that'll run as a "complement" to my novel THE MOCKINGBIRDS, which hits bookstores on November 2. The Web video series is 12 episodes and will feature material NOT in the book. More details to come on release plans, where it'll run, etc. But here's a photo from the shoot with my actress!
