sweet cat bathes a guinea pig!
I found this cute video on LA Unleashed. Usually a cat and guinea pig would be considered predator and prey but in this video the guinea pig sits happily while the cat bathes him like a kitten! So cute! The beginning is adorable then if you're in a rush skip to almost the end. Everything in between is the cat licking the guinea pig's back then at the end he licks his face!
Have you seen any adorable animal videos lately? If so share the link in the comments below!

our next book club book is...
The Continuum Concept! I know that I've blogged about this before but I felt so strongly about this book that I wanted to make an an official book club selection! Take a look and let me know what you think:
The Continuum Concept: In Search of Happiness Lost
By Jean Liedloff
This book focuses on babies and child rearing but it's really not just for those who are pregnant or have kids. It's a super interesting examination of people and society and what the traditional Western upbringing has done to us. I have to say this is an absolute must read!!
I had a hard time getting into it at first but I knew what it was about so I forced myself to continue. It ended up being an absolutely great read. I wish every mother- and father-to-be would read this but especially moms. The concepts in this book will save you stress and money on all the "things" people think they need for kids. It will save you time and energy and make your life and your child's life so much better. I'm so glad I read this book and I hope you will read it too!. You can get it on Amazon and there is a great website about it too.
I hope you enjoy this book and don't forget to post your comments and questions below as you read!

lets check out jamie olivers food revolution!
Chef Jamie Oliver is working hard to make America's school kids healthier. His show Food Revolution is about getting kids away from processed foods and introducing them to healthier ones by teaching them the joy of cooking with fresh ingredients. While Jamie's not specifically promoting a plant-based diet hopefully one day he will wake up to the brilliance of that! I support his effort to make kids healthier. Incorporating more whole grains fresh fruits and veggies into kids' diets and reducing their sugar and fat intake is definitely a step in the right direction.
Jamie is so passionate about his cause and so spunky! Hopefully he'll be able to reach an audience that would never consider a plant-based diet. At least he may convince some people to make some major changes in the right direction. After all getting friendly with healthier foods is the first step toward being more open to a plant-based world. Baby steps are better than no steps!
So let's support Jamie's Food Revolution by tuning into the show! It premiers Tuesday April 12 8/7c on ABC - watch it live or DVR it and catch up whenever it's convenient!
Let's all discuss it as the show progresses and see if it's making a difference. Are the people featured in the show getting healthier? Are they taking steps in the right direction? What do you think will happen? I didn't see the first season so I'm really curious about this one! Did any of you see season one? Any clues as to how this season might go?
I can't wait to hear what you think!

kind lifers sound off on meat is for pussies!
Last weekend you Kind Lifers engaged in a lively discussion about our Kind Book Club selection for March Meat Is For Pussies by John Joseph.
Although I think everyone who commented agreed with the overall point that meat and dairy are unhealthy even for macho dudes there was a raging debate among you about the title of the book. Many of you loved it while others found it offensive. I'm posting some highlights from the comments below so you can continue to think about it and decide for yourselves!
Thanks for your feedback and a special shout out to our awesome author John Joseph for jumping into the discussion!
From Kind Lifer Denise:
"I totally dig the title & the book! It was an easy read with so many good facts. It was cool to get a different perspective on veganism. I liked the author's aggressive straight up attitude. I like to take life not so serious. Some other readers & Kind Lifers found it offensive or were turned off by the title but I wasn't at all. Life for me is all about having fun & being light hearted. There's not much someone can say or do to offend me. I love that people are different & have different perspectives on things. It makes life sooo fun & interesting!"
From Kind Lifer Todd:
"I think this book is indicative of the schism within the rights movement. The problem is that we view animal rights sexism homophobia and racism as separate entities and we should not. If our veganism was interwoven into the universal fight against oppression then we would see the problem with objectifying women to convey our message PETA and also with the attempt to overcompensate and fit into gender norms."
From Kind Lifer Taylor:
"I am definitely going to give this book to my boyfriend. Since I've gone vegan a little over 2 months he has drastically lowered his meat intake he's eaten a turkey sandwich one time in the past 2 months. We watched Earthlings together and it affected him a lot. More than anything he realized how unsanitary meat is as well as how disgustingly the animals are treated."
From Kind Lifer Remy:
"I'm all for messages designed to reach a particular audience and I know that some men and masculine people like myself may require more "macho" urging to veganism but it's a major pet peeve of mine when something with such an honorable focus on a certain aspect of justice food animal environmental is so confused as to perpetuate other forms of injustice. Why say something radical about veganism without paying careful attention to intersections of agri justice struggles specifically with those of women? I'm sure most of us know that women of certain races classes etc. are often more violently oppressed and sexualized by systems of industrial agriculture than any other identity."
From our author John Joseph:
"First off the book title has nothing to do with the female anatomy its a NYC slang term for a wimp this is true. Secondly I have received thousands that's right thousands of emails from average guys cops FBI agents truck drivers MMA fighters military personal in special forces trainers dads teachers sanitation workers bouncers and the list goes on and on all of whom read the book and changed what they were eating. So as far as I'm concerned the end justifies the means."
"To get hung up on a title and not see the good it's doing is short sightedness. I mean isn't the goal to save animals & the planet stop disease and help the kids? I haven't eaten meat for over 31 years and my band the Cro-Mags have gotten tens of thousands of people to stop supporting the killing of animals. I'm not bragging; I'm making a point Alicia has her way of talking as does Rory Skinny Bitch as do I. The Vegan movement has failed to reach these hardcore meat eaters thus far. Even Dr. Colin Campbell The China Study loved the title - even asked me to come speak at his events to capture the heavy meat eating muscle head guys."
"So some have a problem with the title - no problem - I will still be doing what I've been doing before anyone in America even knew what the hell the word "Vegan" meant. Actually the people who have said their lives were changed after reading the book said they never would have changed what they were eating were it not for the tone I took. Also I've come to realize despite any good work you may do there will ALWAYS be some out there who have a problem with it. Oh and according to our sales figures most of the copies of Meat is For Pussies were bought by women trying to get their thick-skulled husbands boyfriends friends dads uncles to open their minds up a bit. Go figure. Peace – jj"
Well there you have it! If you didn't get a chance to read Meat Is For Pussies this time I encourage you to pick up a copy and share it with the guys in your life. And if you'd like to read the rest of the comments about this book you can do so here and here. Stay tuned for our next Kind Book – I'll be announcing it soon!
"Also I've come to realize despite any good work you may do there will ALWAYS be some out there who have a problem with it." Hear hear to that my friend!

please help peta stop the canadian seal slaughter!
This year the Canadian government continues to sanction the slaughter of baby harp seals. The killing has just begun and PETA is working to draw attention to the issue and end it for good.
The seal slaughter is a horribly cruel act that many Canadians and people all over the world want to end. US and European markets have already shut out seal fur and leaders like His Holiness the Dalai Lama and President Barack Obama have spoken out against the slaughter of these innocent animals.
Let's help PETA to end this disgusting spectacle! There are a few ways you can help:
You can write to Canada's Prime Minister and his staff using PETA's email form letter here. When you write remember to speak from the heart!
If you're able you can make a financial donation here
You can share the above links to Facebook and Twitter so your family and friends can help too!
Let's do whatever we can to help these baby seals.
announcing alima pure's be ready in 5 winner!
We received so many wonderful entries for Alima Pure's Naturally Beautiful "Be Ready in 5" contest; it was super hard to pick a winner! So after a lot of nail-biting deliberation we narrowed it down to one...
We're proud to announce Kind Lifer Erin as Alima Pure's Naturally Beautiful "Be Ready in 5" winner! Below is a picture of Erin and a note about how she created her look:
"To create my look I applied a few dabs of cream cover up under my eyes and in a few other areas that have decided not to cooperate this morning. Next I brushed some bronzer on -- under the apples of my cheek to my temple and up along my hairline making that magic 3 shape then a few swipes across the top of my forehead down my nose and below my chin. I then applied my mascara first on the top lashes then bottom then turned the brush vertically to coat the lashes at the very outside of my eye a great trick to thicken lashes!. I combed my brows with one side of a brow tool and then lightly fill in that shape with the brush end using the light brown powder. Finally I moisturized my lips with nude and was good to go!"
Great job Erin! We also wanted to give a shout out to everyone who entered this contest – we were bowled over by all you naturally gorgeous Kind Lifers! Here is a little collage of some of the other contestants:

Everyone who entered received a special 25 off coupon that can be used toward any purchase at Alima Pure!
