Chalice Series Book Club

With the release of The Fire of Your Love, Book Three in the Chalice Series, I’ve decided to celebrate by hosting a book club! With the encouragement of a few readers wanting to take part, I’m planning a four-month book club covering all three books with monthly online meetups for all participants.

We’ll read Firetender (Book One) over July and August, Enkindle in Me (Book Two) in September, and The Fire of Your Love (Book Three) in October!

I want to hear from YOU—do you want to join in for part ...

Why attend a writing conference?

Two weeks ago, I attended the Catholic Writers Guild conference near Chicago. I’d gone in 2024, enabling me to meet people I had only interacted with online through the Guild, particularly within my critique group.

Allison and I each with our Book Ones! Allison flew in from Washington state to attend for the first time!

Since I had gone just the year before, and it was located farther from the airport this year (meaning I would have to take an Uber), I had told myself I probably wouldn’t go this t...

The Fire of Your Love

We have a cover for Chalice Book 3, The Fire of Your Love! Here it is!

How about the entire series side by side? How’s it look?? I love the uniformity between each of the three novels in the font and style.

I’m excited to share with all of you, my subscribers, that the Kindle edition of Book Three is available for preorder. The paperback copy will be available on Thursday, May 1st!

Why May 1st? It’s the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker. As the foster father of Jesus, St. Joseph is a perfect patro...

Podcast and Prompts

Happy April, everyone!

Just a quick hello and update with two different writerly projects.

Recently, I was a guest on the podcast The Work of Thy Hands with Allison Ramirez of Trinity Tree Publishing:

We talked about my books and how The Chalice Series specifically brings vocations into the spotlight. Book Three, The Fire of Your Love, will be coming out in May with Full Quiver Publishing. I’ll share the cover with you soon!

We also talk a little about my Fallen Angel/Risen Angel series, of which Up...

The Hundredth Birthday of Flannery O'Connor

Apparently, I post on Substack once a month on average, because it was last March that I wrote the 99th birthday post shortly after visiting Andalusia, the home of Flannery O’Connor in Milledgeville in my home state of Georgia.

Taken during last year’s visit to Flannery O’Connor’s home

Today, the Feast of the Annunciation, is also what would be O’Connor’s 100th birthday. I’m celebrating by reading a couple articles in our local Catholic paper, The Georgia Bulletin, and hope to find time to reread ...

Free Gift for all my Subscribers!

I’m so excited to share a gift with my subscribers—all of you! I’ve been working on a fun project: annotating the first novel in the Chalice Series, Firetender.

Here it is, a free PDF download for you: the first four chapters of Firetender, annotated with fun tidbits, background information, and other details about the writing process. My notes include photos, maps, links, music, and more. If you like delving into the behind-the-scenes details of a story (or are into 90s nostalgia!), then this is...

What I've Been Reading

After this kind of pathetic number of total books read in 2024 (less than 20; children’s novels read to my children and short stories included)…

I have already read four full novels in January! How about some reviews? Horror, Historical/Classic, and Classic. All sad yet beautiful.

Jennifer the Damned

When I read Dracula a few years ago for the first time, as a Catholic, the obvious connections leapt off the page at me. Use of the Eucharist to ward off vampires because evil recognizes Truth and the ...

Firetender is TWO years old!

A week ago, Firetender passed its second year since publication day! It is hard for me to believe that my first novel has been out in the world for two full years now. Book One of the Chalice Series taught me so much about writing and revising and building up a story that had been dormant in my heart for years and years.

To celebrate—a week late, but better than never—I am sharing three reviews of Firetender, one each from the Catholic Media Association, Amazon, and Goodreads.

Thanks for reading ...
