It's too easy to quit mid - novel when things get tough, but each time you quit one story and move on to the next, it's easier to quit the next one. Every story is fixable! Second, never give up! They say only about 10% of writers get published. I say that's because the other 90% quit! And what if they quit one month before their first contract offer? They'll never know. (less)

For example, if I'm needing more conflict, taking additional time to experience, through books, articles, etc., the job or whatever my characters do helps stir ideas. Sometimes taking time to do something mindless and active helps. Often, when I feel stumped regarding a thread or scene, if I pull away for awhile, the idea eventually comes. I also rely heavily on two special brainstorming buddies! We chat via Google Hangout, and have a blast imagining fictional world's together!(less)
