Another Fab Review for Off the Shelf

Off the ShelfI just had another review of Off the Shelf which has put the biggest smile on my face. Scarlett Knight read and reviewed it, and here’s what she had to say:

“I got drawn in and read it in one setting. It was a totally fun and lighthearted (and not to mention steamy!) tale. All in all, it’s great summer/beach reading. It was so much fun that I kind of wish it’d been longer. But despite that, it doesn’t disappoint. Definitely add it to your contemporary erotic romance collection if you’re a fan of the genre. Four out of five stars.”

Check out the full review here.

So if you want your erotic romance to be fun, lighthearted and steamy, then check out Off the Shelf. It’s a total bargain on Amazon right now, so bag it quick!

Guest Blog: J.S. Wayne

It’s Personal By J.S. Wayne

I’ve often been accused of taking things which shouldn’t directly affect me personally. Most of the time, it’s even true. This is one of many reasons I refuse to watch the news unless someone shoves it in my face, and if you ever happen to see me reading a newspaper it’s because there’s a particular article of intense interest to me in the day’s edition. When I hear about petty injustices or monolithic cruelties, I get so angry I’m hard to be around for anywhere from a few minutes to as much as a week. And when I get angry, I fight back.

A Light In The Darkness, the anthology just released to benefit Writing Out Child Abuse, is the most recent such punch I’ve thrown. It’s arguably one of the hardest, backed as it is by a number of excellent authors who believed in the vision I presented so fervently that they joined in, knowing perfectly good and well they would receive no compensation for their efforts in exchange for a hell of a lot of hard work. (And trust me when I say everyone involved with this anthology busted ass for months to get it right!)

Why child abuse? Why that particular cause?

It’s simple. I’ve been there. If you want to know more about that, you can visit the WOCA blog at http://writingoutchildabuse.wordpress.com . There’s no need to belabor the point here. But the bottom line is that I do take child abuse personally, whether it happens in small-town America, a remote village in East Africa, or in a metropolis in Europe. And frankly, I think everyone should.

There are plenty of stories of survivors of child abuse overcoming what was done to them. I myself am one example. The longer I work with and for this cause, the more of these stories I hear, and every one makes me want to cheer for those who were able to press on and rise above the ugly, terrible label of “victim.” But by corollary, I also realize that some people simply aren’t equipped with or ever given the tools to stop being a victim and start being a survivor, an example to others who are living with what’s been done to them. I can’t quite bring myself to view the latter with contempt, but neither do I view them with equanimity, because at some point, they gave up and just accepted the label. Whether they were just too beaten and broken to fight back or whether they needed help that was denied at a crucial time, they laid it down and simply let themselves become victims rather than survivors.

A Light In The Darkness is intended to be precisely what its title implies. Although the topical matter is treated honestly and unflinchingly, the overarching message of this anthology is not despair because these horrors occur, but hope which derives from the knowledge that with love, determination, and the knowledge that the abused is not to blame for the actions of their abuser, one need not be a victim. That’s the light I and the other authors involved in this project intended to shine into the shadows, and so far, it looks like we’re succeeding.

I don’t get involved with causes I don’t believe in.

This one’s personal.

Will you join me?

My deepest thanks to Lucy Felthouse for having me here today. Below is the blurb for A Light In The Darkness and an excerpt from one of the stories I included within, “A Hope In Hell.” I hope you enjoy it, and that you’ll consider purchasing a copy. It’s for a good cause, and who knows? The proceeds may very well help someone you love and care about at some point.

Until next time,

Best,

J.S. Wayne

A Light in the DarknessIn A Light in the Darkness, the inaugural anthology from the authors of WOCA, a dark world awaits you. Spanning centuries of time, encircling the globe, and running the gamut from eerie historical fiction to gritty urban fantasy to page-scorching erotic romance, these authors unflinchingly dissect the horror of child abuse in all its forms. These authors have taken great pains to ensure the innocent are assured justice and the guilty pay for their crimes in the unique fantasy worlds they have created. Sadly, in real life, this is not always the case.

This book contains scenes of graphic violence and honest depictions of child abuse. Readers who may find such material unduly disturbing, objectionable, or “triggering” are strongly advised not to read it.

Some of the newest and hottest names in fiction have lent their talents to this collection, including Gillian Colbert, Amber Green, R. Renee Vickers, Eric Keys, Phoebe Valois, and J.S. Wayne. All of these authors are united by one core belief, and with this collection, they seek to turn their talents to a greater good.

One hundred percent of all proceeds from this collection are being donated directly to Writing Out Child Abuse. These proceeds will then be dispersed to charities whose sole aim is to help survivors of child abuse all over the globe. Excerpt From “A Hope In Hell”

“Why don’t you sit?” Lucifer asked.

After a long moment during which she weighed the relative merits of being stubborn or relaxing, she chose the latter, scooting her chair just a little further away from him and folding herself into it. If he noticed, he gave no sign.

“You are aware of the Zos’ma-he’an?” He asked.

She thought for a moment. She had seen that word, just recently, written in the Enochian script which was as natural to her as the Latin alphabet.

“The assassins?”

“A crude but serviceable term. The Zos’ma-he’an are not merely assassins, but those who deliver souls to me. Aznaoz, Opharac’s lieutenant, was the one who brought you here.”

“Opharac is their leader?”

Lucifer nodded. “He answers only to me, and you can believe that they both answered most harshly for bringing you here. Hell was never meant to house souls such as yours, but under the terms of our armistice, once a soul is taken to one place or the other it cannot leave.”

She frowned. None of this was news to her, and the cosmology of the realms had long since ceased to interest her.

“I assume there’s a point to all this?”

Lucifer sat back and steepled his fingers thoughtfully. “There is.”

A long silence fell over the chamber, punctuated only by the muted chewing growl of the flames. Versiel fought the urge to fidget, knowing he’d get to the meat of the matter in his own good time.

Finally, he said, “I have been considering places you might be able to use your talents to best advantage. You don’t wish to be a succubus, which would be my first choice, and you would be wasted as a mere warrior. However, among the Zos’ma-he’an, you could not only serve me, but avenge yourself upon those who harm the innocent.”

The thought was intriguing, but she wanted to know more. “In what way?”

Lucifer smiled grimly. “Like all angels, fallen and otherwise, I harbor a special and unique hatred for those who harm children. There is, of course, an age at which children lose their innocence and become fair game, but you have been a unique case from the day you were born. In this capacity, you would have the opportunity to channel your fury and be a force for justice and good, even though your deeds will stink of brimstone and blood. Are you interested?”

She felt breathless and dizzy with excitement. The idea of being able to save others from her fate while remaining safely beyond the grasp of earthly law had a definite appeal. How often had she dreamed of taking her vengeance on the man who had so cruelly destroyed her innocence before snuffing out her life?

“What of the souls?”

Lucifer’s grin grew even broader. For the first time she could ever remember, he looked truly demonic, belying his outward appearance.

“My dear, that is the best part. Not only will you be free to amuse yourself as you see fit, but you will also bring the souls to me. Under the armistice, those souls belong to me more certainly than any others. I care nothing for the tawdry, commonplace sins. ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not covet, thou shalt not bear false witness.’” He brought his hand up, holding his fingers parallel to the floor, and moved his thumb up and down rapidly to signal blah, blah, blah. “These sins are petty and not worth my time or attention. Sins that nearly every person able to talk commit bore me. But those who harm the innocent . . .  those souls I take great and personal pleasure in condemning.”

Versiel found herself answering his grin. The thought was far too tempting to merit further consideration.

“What do you know about Frank Smith?”

Lucifer stood. “I thought you’d never ask.”

Sunday Snog – Farm Hand

Sunday Snog

The Look of LustHere’s a very sexy and naughty snog from my story, Farm Hand, which is part of The Look of Lust anthology, published by Xcite Books.

‘So,’ he said, ‘why were you watching me? Are you some kind of pervert?’

Wetness pooled in her pussy at his stern tone. It gave Ramona a hunch, and she decided to act on it.

‘And what if I am?’ she said, quirking an eyebrow at him.

‘Well then. Perhaps we’d better give your filthy mind something to think about.’

He reached down, hooking his fingers under the edge of the offending T-shirt and slid it up Ramona’s body, over her head and dropped it to the floor. Her black lacy bra was revealed in all its glory.

‘That’s a very sexy bra, young lady. Especially for going hiking. Now, I can’t help but wonder if your panties match.’

Kneeling, he deftly unlaced her heavy boots and removed them. Then he made short work of her socks. Finally, he straightened. Even on his knees, his height put him in a perfectly kissable position. He obviously thought so too.

Reaching a large hand up, he slipped it behind her head and pulled her to him. As their lips crushed together, she sucked in a hasty breath through her nostrils. Big mistake. His fresh sweat, tinted with cologne made her feel heady.

As he plunged his tongue between her lips, Ramona’s senses went into overdrive. Not only did he look, sound, feel and smell delicious; he tasted it too. He’d obviously been chewing gum or mints as the tongue sliding sensuously against her own was pleasantly minty. She moaned into his mouth.

He pulled back. ‘Horny?’

‘What do you think?’

‘I think I’d like to find out for sure. And then there’s the mystery of the matching underwear.’

His hands went to her waist and made short work of the button and zipper of her hiking trousers. Then he pushed her gently onto her back and pulled them down.

Read two of my stories, one of Victoria Blisse’s, and three other fab authors in The Look of Lust.

Also, don’t forget to head back to Victoria’s site and see what other luscious lip to lip action other authors have posted. Yum!

Guest Blog: Taryn Rose

Inception of L World

I had attended a conference where I met Lori Perkins, the editorial director at Ravenous Romance, who was on the hunt for a lesbian series. “Something like Showtime’s ‘The L Word,’ centering on a group of lesbian friends,” she said. I immediately lit up. You see, a few years ago I won a scene writing competition for “The L Word,” so it felt like fate had intervened. I knew I was meant to write this series.

Lori gave me ten minutes to prepare a series pitch and I began furiously jotting down ideas. I scribbled “L World, Greenwich Village bar and club” on a napkin and from there, the story took off. I wrote character descriptions as each woman appeared in my mind’s eye and began plotting how their lives would intersect. I had a sense that the story, at least the first installment, would focus on a new inductee into the eponymous L World; perhaps she’s someone who’s fantasized about being intimate with another woman but never acted on her hidden desires. And what brings her into a gay bar? Maybe she encounters a very different woman than herself that intrigues her, and she follows her there. I’ve always enjoyed romances between characters from two different worlds.

And the idea takes form.

Enter Blake. A stiff but sexy attorney who encounters a sensual, free-spirit that awakens her dormant lesbian passion. But who? Where?

Enter Janie. Stylist to the mega-rich who gives Blake a post-divorce makeover that escalates into an intense one-sided sexual experience for Blake. Of course the attraction proves mutual later on and complications follow: Janie already has a girlfriend, Blake fears coming out to her son and colleagues, among other obstacles. But that would be developed later.

Lori returned and I began my pitch. I bumbled a bit, but overall she seemed pleasantly surprised and interested in developing my concept—and she took me to lunch. I was on cloud nine THOUSAND! Later, I was advised to follow up with a detailed written proposal and sample chapters. And BAM! I got my first book deal.

L WorldIn the following excerpt from L World, Blake and Janie are on what seems to be their first date:

Janie took a quick swig of her vodka. Normally, she would be perfectly relaxed on a date. She was used to being desired. But the nervous energy Blake was emitting muddied what Janie thought were the obvious intentions of this evening. Admittedly, Janie was at a point in her life where she had very little patience for closeted women and she recognized that Blake likely fell into that category. This woman better not tell me she’s married, thought Janie, who, despite her better judgment found herself hoping for more than a one-night-stand with this hot lawyer babe. The lights dimmed and a saxophone player and bassist began to play, creating a relaxed vibe.

“I’m recently divorced, you know,” said Blake, and she looked up, meeting Janie’s eyes.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” Divorced is better than married, she thought.

“It’s for the best. Philip and I were more like old friends than a married couple,” said Blake, and Janie sensed she still had unresolved emotion.

“I know how that is. I mean, I’ve never been married, but there’ve been times when I realized that the person I was with was more like a close friend, or a great roommate. It just gets tricky when the other person doesn’t see it that way.”

“We had some of that,” Blake laughed. “I have a son too. Wesley,” Blake added, seeming tentative.

“Oh, I love that name. Poor little guy. How’s he taking everything?”

“He’s 17,” Blake laughed, “He saw it coming for a long time, probably even before we did.”

“You have a seventeen-year-old? How is that possible?” Janie laughed and acted cool, even though she was surprised that her potential love interest was the mother of a high-schooler.

“You’re sweet, Janie. I was a young mother,” Blake said. “He’s a very independent boy, a real city kid. He had a short stint at Exeter Academy, until he got kicked out.”

“Oh my God! He sounds like a character!”

“It was probably a cry for attention. I was insanely busy back then, during the whole Enron debacle. We represented the largest group of creditors in the chapter 11 case,” she boasted, but Janie’s expression must have made it clear that she didn’t appreciate what a big deal that was because Blake changed the subject. “Wesley’s father wasn’t around much either.”

“Aww, poor sweetie,” Janie said, and felt herself blush.

“Well, he always has a girlfriend at his side, taking care of him, bailing him out of trouble, whatever the case may be. Wesley has no shortage of charm.”

“I’d love to meet him one day,” Janie said, and she meant it. She felt a connection to the beautiful and complicated woman she was dining with.

“I feel like I’ve been going on about myself. How about you?

My Good Buddy Victoria Blisse Visits

Victoria BlisseHello all at Lucy’s place. I’m incredibly excited to have been given free reign over here today. I have spent the last few hours noseying through Lucy’s drawers (ooo eeerr) and I’ve found many interesting things. She looks so sweet and innocent doesn’t she? I was totally shocked to find…anyway, you don’t need to know. I better get on with my real purpose for being here or I’ll not be invited back!

Me and Lucy are known as the Northern Birds because we’re birds of a feather who flock in a similar area of the British Isles. We’ve now feathered a mutual nest in a little anthology called Flesh Spills and Secret Thrills. It contains two of Lucy’s stories and if you pop over to my blog today you can find out more about them. And there’s two of my stories in there too and I’m here to let you in on how I came up with my two curvaceous tales.

I write rubenesque stories or stories about curvy girls (and one occasion a curvy guy!) whichever term you’d prefer and so when Lucy wanted someone to share pages with her on a collection celebrating women with curves she came knocking on my door. I happily obliged and here’s the stories I brought to the party!

Down Amongst the Daffodils

Rachel bumps into an old crush from school, Stephen, who’s now a gardener at a local park. They get down and dirty in the grass besides the bright yellow daffodils…

I love spring, it’s one of my favourite seasons and I also love daffodils. They’re my favourite flowers and my daughter when she first learnt about them would often shout  out ‘Look mummy, Dafterbells!’

Also if you’ve read much of my work you might note I have a thing for naughty goings on in public so the idea of having my two characters having fun in a bed of the beautiful yellow blooms really appealed to me.

Carnal Praise

The Bishop is visiting and Caroline is practising her solo when her husband stops accompanying her on the piano and initiates a far more carnal kind of praise.

I am, as most people know, a Christian. I’m a member of my church choir and every Sunday I wear ugly, itchy robes to sing with my fellow choir members. I hate them, I really do.

But choir robes are a uniform and there was something in stripping those robes away to reveal nakedness beneath that intrigued me. I know how hot it can get under normal clothes and a robe in the summer and often I wish I could go naked under my robes.

So Carnal praise came about when I wrote down what might happen when someone did wear just their robes.  I love how this is a married, Christian couple who are having a bit of naughty, raunchy fun in a church. Sex is fun and even Christians do it you know.  I am sure this story might seem controversial to some but to me it’s just combining two things that make me me. My faith and my writing.

Flesh Spills and Secret ThrillsIf you want to read the stories then you can pick up Flesh Spills and Secret Thrills from Amazon UK, Amazon US, All Romance eBooks and 1PlaceforRomance.com right now. And the collection is coming soon to all other good eBook retailers.

We love feedback, so if you enjoy it, please leave a review for us on Amazon, Goodreads, or wherever you buy the book. It’s hugely appreciated! Now skip over to victoriablisse.co.uk to get the dirt on Lucy’s two stories from the anthology.

I’m going to see what snacks Lucy has hidden around the place, I’m getting hungry.

First Review for Off the Shelf!

Off the ShelfWould you please excuse me (and cover your ears) while I do a squeeeee! The first review for Off the Shelf is in, and it’s a good ‘un! *heaves a sigh of relief*

The super Doris O’Connor (who is also a super writer!) read and reviewed Off the Shelf, and here’s what she had to say:

“I went into this expecting to like it, but you know what, I loved it. The humour throughout this novella is simply fantastic, and something that is always present in Lucy’s writing but she really outdid herself in this one. The sexual tension is portrayed beautifully and the actual sex scenes are hot, hot, hot. And humorous, perfect combo, really. Read it, you won’t be disappointed!” 5 out of 5

You can read her full review here.

Find out more about the book, read an excerpt and grab your copy here. It’s a total bargain on Amazon, so you’ve nothing to lose! ;)

Review-Tastic!

A Menu with a DifferenceThe super Scarlett Knight reviewed two of my books, A Menu with a Difference and On the Prowl. And… I think she liked them! ;)

Here’s what she said about A Menu with a Difference:

“Felthouse does a great job with the first-person narrator, Annette, giving her a strong, edgy, bad-girl voice to tell the tale. Bottom line, if you enjoy reading stories of seduction, first-time lesbian experiences, and fun, sexy MFF threesomes, check this story out for sure.” 4 out of 5

On the ProwlAnd here’s what she said about On the Prowl:

“I really had fun reading this collection of three erotic shorts. “On the Prowl” is a cute story of a woman going out to see if she can get lucky, and does she ever, in the form of a sexy MMF threesome. The second tale, “A Stroke of Peach,” is also a lighthearted, quirky tale… Lucy Felthouse writes some sizzling hot, secret sex at the workplace. “Double Vision,” the last tale in the set, is my favorite of the three. I love the creativity they bring to their bedroom and the way they bring some very hot erotic fantasies to life. There’s a bit of roleplaying, a little military fetish, and some other surprises.” 4 out of 5

I’m more than happy with those lovely comments! You can read the reviews in their entirety here. Check out the book pages for A Menu with a Difference and On the Prowl for blurbs and excerpts.
