New Release: Dare By Kacey Hammell

DareLegal secretary, Olivia Warner enjoys being single and, aside from her closest gal pals, usually keeps to herself. But the night of her thirty-fourth birthday, she and her friends spend a fun-filled evening at a local bar where her friends dare her to approach a man, and spend the night with him. Olivia’s not one to turn down a dare, especially from her old college pals. She only hopes the man in question is in for some good conversation, because that’s all she’ll give him.

Darren “Dare” Shalvis has given up on women. He’s tired of being chased for his money, good looks, and prowess in bed. He prefers to meet a woman who, for once, wants nothing more from him than mere conversation. If only the woman asking him to spend the night with her wasn’t his favorite legal secretary.

Accepting a dare has never been so tempting…

Excerpt:

She gave a small laugh and lifted the glass for a drink.

Dare watched her lips as she drank. He wondered what they’d taste like. It was something he’d considered many times lately.

He was drawn to her, but unsure he’d ever act on it.

Her whole demeanor said ‘hands off.’ And he wasn’t sure he was ready for the challenge.

“Tell me about it.”

“I’ll cut right to the chase.” As he turned on the stool, their knees brushed. Neither moved.

He thought he saw her eyes lit up. Perhaps Ms. Warner wasn’t as immune as he thought.

“My friends brought me here tonight for my birthday.”

“Happy birthday.”

She smiled. “Thank you. The jury’s still out whether it’s happy or not. My friends decided that as a present they’d get me a man.”  She blushed and reached for her drink.

“Go on.” Intriguing.

She set down her glass and continued, “They dared me. Dared me to find myself a man and spend the night with him.”

Women…who understood them? He’d only ever participated in dares when he was younger. He didn’t think anyone took them seriously anymore.

“And you need my help, how?” Dare’s heart rate accelerated. She wasn’t asking him to…

She stared up at him, her gaze steady. “I need you to spend the night with me.”

If he hadn’t heard it with his own ears, he wouldn’t have believed it. This night was the strangest he’d had in a long time. It was as if he’d been offered a million dollars on a silver platter.

Of course, he wanted to spend the night with her. He’d fantasized about it many times. He just wasn’t clear on what exactly she was asking. He didn’t want any misunderstandings. “Are you asking me to spend the night with you to…” Dare cleared his throat. “…be with you?”

“Oh! No, yes, I mean no. Dammit, I’ve screwed this up.”

“Relax.” He put a hand on her knee. “It’s okay. Let’s try this—do you want me to have sex with you?”

Olivia groaned. Dare love that sound, and heat filled his groin.

“No. Not to have sex. God, this is mortifying.” Olivia placed her hand over his where it still rested on her knee. “Just to spend the night together—a movie, hang out, whatever—until eight a.m., when the dare is over.”

Dare laughed. She talked so fast he could hardly keep up. He’d never seen her so animated before. He liked her flustered and breathless…a lot. He wondered if she looked and sounded like that during sex.

He couldn’t go that route. Not now.

“Okay, so let me get this straight. You want us to spend the night together—with no sex—until morning? All because of a dare? Why didn’t you just say no?”

“I can’t. In college, the five of us made a pact—in blood, for God’s sake—that we’d always be friends and never back down from a dare. Trust me, right now, I wish I’d never made it.”

He chuckled. “Yes, I can imagine how you feel.”

“I’m so tired after the day we had. This was the last thing I needed tonight.”

“Yeah, when I stopped by the office today you seemed a bit irritated.”

She sighed and ran her fingers over his hand. Dare was surprised how comfortable it felt to have their knees and hands touch. He didn’t think Olivia was even aware she caressed his hands…or wreaked havoc on his libido. If her innocent touches could send him into overdrive, he wondered what would happen if she put all she had into it.

“It was the day from hell. I just wanted to meet the girls for a few drinks, then head home to soak the day away.”

Dare grit his teeth and tried not to think of Olivia in a bathtub—water floating around her body, relaxed, languid. The image could send him over the edge.

“Well, you’re in luck. I’m your man for the night.”

Olivia smiled and her eyes danced.  “Thank you. I really appreciate it. The last thing I wanted to do was have to pick up some random guy. I’m so glad you were here.”

Pleased he could help her, Dare grinned. He realized he wanted to anything to put that carefree smile on her face.

“So.” He took a sip of his beer. “What do you want to do?”

She scowled. “Well, we could go back to my place. I have a spare room that you can crash in if you want.”

Surprised, Dare took in her flushed face. “Are you sure?”

She nodded. “Yeah. We don’t exactly have to stay up all night. It’s still spending the night together, right?”

He chuckled. “Yeah, in a manner of speaking. Your friends weren’t specific.”

A smug smile crossed Olivia’s face. “No they weren’t. Which is a testament to how much they thought this through. I would have made a list of do’s and don’ts.”

They both laughed. Olivia had a naughty streak and he liked it. Liked it—and her—very much. A night with Olivia Warner wasn’t what he’d expected.

Sure, he’d thought of her in his bed often, writhing and moaning with passion, but he never thought fantasy would become a reality. He couldn’t let the opportunity go.

His buddies didn’t call him Dare for no reason. He could never resist a challenge.

He placed both hands on her shoulders, drew her gaze from her glass, and put his cards on the table.

“What if we have an agreement?”

She frowned. “What do you mean?”

“For us to spend the night together, we should have some ground rules.”

“Ground rules?”

“I will spend the night with you. More than eager to do so, except one thing.”

“What’s that?” she whispered. He barely heard her but saw her lips move.

He wanted to taste them, desperately.

“I don’t want to sleep in any spare room.”

“You don’t?” She gawked at him.

Her expression was comical but Dare didn’t feel like laughing.

“No. I want to spend the night in your room.” Dare had her full attention. She stared at him, eyes wide. “In your bed.”

A Sexy Snippet from The Look of Lust

The Look of LustI’m continuing to highlight some of the stories I have in anthologies as they don’t usually get as much exposure (if you’ll pardon the pun) as my single-author stories. Here’s an excerpt from my story, Farm Hand, which appears in Xcite Books anthology The Look of Lust, which also contains my story, Spa Daze, under the name of Louisa Harvey. Enjoy! :)

As Ramona made her way down the gravel track, she spotted some farm buildings. Glancing down at her map, she nodded. Her route would take her right through the farm yard and then the public footpath continued over a stile into the adjacent field.

She just hoped she didn’t meet any hostile dogs. Or geese. She shuddered. Geese could be vicious creatures.

As she drew closer to the yard, Ramona could see someone hefting bales of hay off a truck. She sighed with relief. At least the farmer would be able to control any unruly animals.

As he turned to place a bale on the ground, Ramona saw the man in profile. He was younger than she’d expected. Much younger, in fact. As his powerful body moved beneath his clothes, Ramona watched, open-mouthed. All thoughts of scary dogs and geese were erased from her mind. She was still drawing closer to him, though her steps were stealthier now. Ramona didn’t want him to know she was there just yet. She was enjoying the flex of his muscles far too much to want to disturb him.

By now, Ramona was close enough to make out his features. Mmm, she thought, he is absolutely not your typical farmer. This guy is hotter than the surface of the sun.

Stopping, she stood at the end of the lane, still within the cover of the trees and hedges lining it. The farmer continued working, his big body heaving the hay around as though it were feathers. It didn’t look as though anyone else was around. He unloaded the lorry without pausing. The only telltale sign of his exertion was the sweep of his sleeve across his forehead, mopping up the sweat that threatened to trickle down his face.

Ramona was in danger of some trickling of her own, only much lower down. Then, just as she thought she’d better get on with her walk, the farmer stopped. Ramona froze, thinking he’d seen her lurking in the shadowy lane. He hadn’t. It appeared the beating sun and his workload were getting to him.

Grabbing the hem of his shirt, he tugged it up over his head, then balled it up and tossed it into the cab of the truck. Ramona suppressed a lusty moan. Hotter than the surface of the sun had been a completely apt description.

The farmer’s long lean body tapered down into narrow hips, from which hung loose combat trousers. They were slung so low that she could see the line of dark hair running from his bellybutton southwards.

Completely oblivious to his appreciative audience, the farmer carried on with what he’d been doing. Now he was moving the bales into a nearby barn. Ramona drank in his every detail: the dusting of dark hair on his broad chest; his muscular arms; handsome face and ohhh – she bit her lip as he bent over – his tight arse.

Any minute now and his wife was going to come out with a cool drink, Ramona was sure of it. There was no way a man this attractive hadn’t been snapped up. She waited. Nobody came.

By now, she was getting really rather agitated. Her lusty behaviour meant the gusset of her knickers was wet. It stuck to her skin, and her pussy ached. She stuffed her hand between her thighs and squeezed them together, hoping the friction would provide some relief. It didn’t.

Across the yard, the hard-working hunk wiped his brow again, then glanced at his watch. A surprised expression crossed his attractive features. Ramona checked her own watch. Lunchtime.

There were only a few stacks of hay left sitting on the concrete to be taken into the barn. Ramona could see what was going to happen. He was going to put the last few bales away and head in for lunch, leaving her there, insanely horny and with no chance of relief. She wasn’t even half way through her walk, so it wasn’t as if she could rush home to stroke herself to climax.

Ramona’s brain whirred, flicking through a multitude of devious plans, none of which seemed plausible. The sweaty sex god was now walking out of the barn once more, having deposited his last load. He moved in the direction of the farmhouse.

Ramona’s hormones took over and forced her brain into a quick – probably quite reckless – decision. Stepping out of the shady lane, she pretended to turn her ankle and went down with a loud yelp, her map slapping down on the concrete next to her.

Turning at the sound, the farmer couldn’t help but see her hunched on the floor, clutching her ankle. He ran over, muscles pumping and flexing as he moved. Ramona swallowed the saliva pooling in her mouth. She was going for damsel in distress, not drooling mess.

‘Hey, are you OK?’ Stupid question aside, the farmer’s deep, seductive voice made Ramona hot. She wanted him. If he turned her down for whatever reason, then fine. She’d just have to go home and wank herself silly. But she was going to give it her best shot.

He crouched beside her, hands already reaching for her “injured” ankle. He wore no wedding ring. Adrenalin pumped through Ramona’s body and her heart fluttered in her chest. Then she mentally shook herself. That didn’t mean a thing. He probably didn’t wear it for work in case he lost it. Or perhaps he had a girlfriend, but wasn’t married yet.

When he touched her, Ramona’s brain promptly disengaged from that thought process.

‘Ooh,’ she moaned, then remembered to sound uncomfortable, rather than aroused, ‘ouch. I turned it on a stone or something.’

Excerpt:

I am surrounded by incompetence.

Kien Varian reluctantly waved away the two voluptuous women sitting on either side of him. They flashed him pouty looks as he blew them apologetic kisses. Their hips swayed seductively as they quietly exited his social room.

The playful expression on his face morphed into an icy mask. Warm amber eyes, turned cold and predatory. Before him, a Mixed male kneeled on one of his fur rugs, one fist pressed firmly to the ground.

“Markus Lotros.” Crossing his legs, Kien raised a well-manicured hand to stroke his goatee thoughtfully. “Care to repeat those words?”

The messenger winced despite the pleasant tone. “I saw the heir leave her party moments ago… with Lord Larian. I had heard you wished not to be disturbed, but the young master instructed I come to you.”

Kien blinked and the stroking stopped. “Young master? Ah, you mean Eris.” Eris Lotros, heir to the strongest clan in the vampire community. A bit older than the birthday girl tonight by a few years, but his interest was obvious. A good match, if any were worthy of his little Lili.

If she survives.

“Yes, Lord Kien.” Markus’s head remained lowered out of respect and fear. Even being from another clan, there were few who could claim ignorance concerning Kien’s capricious behavior.

Fortunately, the vampire lord had other things on his mind. “Guardian?” he queried.

“Her whereabouts are unknown.”

Right. Of course Reila couldn’t be found. Had Alik listened to him and put a pureblood in charge of protecting Liari, Larian’s obvious ploy would have been less likely to succeed. The last of the Ancient’s resources and abilities had gone into ensuring the heir’s conception; a replacement would not be forthcoming.

“Be grateful your prince is an only child.” Kien finally stood from his plush red sofa, straightening his ruffled blouse. He blew out an exasperated sigh, fingers pinching the bridge of his nose in a futile attempt to thwart an oncoming headache. “Do you know where they were headed, Guardian? Stand up, man. I swear I won’t unleash my crazy on you.”

Filthy Friday: Tamsin Flowers

Hi all. For this week’s Filthy Friday, I have the fabulous Tamsin Flowers, giving us some background on her story in Smut by the Sea, called The Man on the Balcony. Enjoy!

Hi,

Before getting down to business (so to speak), I just wanted to say how thrilled I am to be invited to post on Lucy’s brilliant blog.  It’s my first time, which makes me something of guest blogger virgin – but this has to be one of the best places to pop one’s cherry!

As I’m writing this, I’m looking out of my window onto a howling gale and lashing rain – the leaves are flying off the trees and even when the sun does peek through, there’s no denying – the season’s changed.  Autumn is upon us and all those sun-drenched days of summer holidays, picnics, garden parties and fun on the beach are well and truly behind us.

But I’m not prepared to let go quite yet and I’m certainly not in the mood to turn my thoughts to Christmas.  While I’ve still got the last vestige of the sun tan that was so hard fought for, I want to cling onto that summer holiday mood for just a little longer before bundling up against the cold.  (And as luck would have it, the sun’s just broken through and feels wonderfully warm through the window!)

I don’t know if you’re the same, but for me, one of the best ways to change my mood or recapture a feeling or a memory is to immerse myself in a great story.  Perhaps that’s why I like to write them, too.  It gives me the perfect excuse to indulge in a few fantasies and still be working at the same time.  And I think the perfect remedy to my change-of-season blues has to be dipping into Lucy’s brilliant anthology Smut by the Sea.  Lucy edited this excellent collection with Victoria Blisse and in so doing brought together a great bunch of writers, including Cynthia Rayne, KD Grace, Tabitha Rayne, MA Stacie, Lexie Bay, Cassandra Dean, Tanith Davenport, Justine Elyot, Heidi Champa and Slave Nano.  For someone who is fairly new to writing erotica, I felt honoured to have a story included with such illustrious company.

My story in Smut by the Sea is called The Man on the Balcony.  When Charlie moves into her new apartment the thing she’s most excited about is having a private balcony with a sea view.  So as soon as she’s unpacked, she indulges herself by stripping off and settling down to relax in the sun.  However, her pleasures are interrupted by her noisy next door neighbour taking calls on his balcony; Charlie can’t help but listen in and before she knows it, she’s intrigued…

Here’s a short excerpt to give you a taster if you’re new to my writing and if you’re interested in finding out more, visit my blog, Tamsin’s Superotica:

www.tamsinflowers.com

Happy reading!

Tamsin

Excerpt:

‘Hi,’ said a man’s voice in answer to the call.  ‘No, I’m home now.  Out on the balcony.’

Could be interesting.  I rolled onto my side, angling myself to hear better what the deep velvety voice was saying.  It was a rich, nuanced baritone with just the hint of a west coast accent.

‘Yes…  Just a meeting with the investors this morning.  Thrashed out the payment schedule…’

Boring, boring, boring.  I sank back on my lounger and tried to shut the voice out of my brain but the main droned on and on about percentages and margins and dividends.  I slung a forearm across my face and tried to retreat back into my soft, sun-kissed cocoon.  I used my other hand to softly, gently arouse my nipples, brushing across them, stroking and pinching them until they stood out proud and sent fiery demands coursing through my body.  I writhed on cushions, letting both hands work on the cherry red tips of my breasts, wishing I could bend far enough forward to reach them with my tongue.

Mr Loudmouth next door was still droning on but when I heard him mention the name of a local bar, my ears couldn’t help but prick up.  Mulligans was a place Susie and I went to all the time, whenever we needed to kick back with drinks and dancing, or when we felt in the mood for checking out the local talent.

‘Yeah, I saw her there again,’ he was saying.  ‘Okay, okay, next time.’

He paused, presumably listening to whoever was on the other end of the line.

‘No, I’m gonna say hello, buy her a few drinks…  She’s unbelievable.  Curves, tawny brown skin, deep, dark eyes that could melt Alaska.’  His voice lowered and I was straining to hear him; this was definitely more interesting than his office talk.  ‘There’s just one thing I want to do with her.  We’ll go for a walk on the beach, I’ll take her hand and if she likes it, I’ll kiss her.’

My fingers were starting to do their own walking now as I listened to his plans for his mystery woman.

‘And then…’  A pause.  ‘Of course, I’m gonna fuck her.  Ever tried it?  Sex on the sand?  It’s amazing.  Liberating.’  His voice was starting to sound a little rough, husky even.  I think he was getting turned on at the thought of it.  And why not?  I certainly was.

Smut by the SeaLight hearted, sexy fun by the sea is the theme of this erotic anthology, edited by Victoria Blisse and Lucy Felthouse.

From the sun soaked bays of Australia to the rainy coastal towns of England, Smut by the Sea has it all. Whatever your interpretation of naughty seaside fun, there’s something nestling between the covers for you. Surfer boys, sea creatures, pirates and the fairground abound in this exciting collection of stories from erotica’s finest authors.

I Kissed a GirlLook what came in the post for me today! Black Lace sent me a lovely parcel with their latest print releases, plus a cute little vibe. But perhaps the most exciting part was the fact one of the books has my stories in it!

Yes, lesbian erotic anthology I Kissed a Girl is a combination of the Ravenous Romance titles I Kissed a Girl and I Kissed a Girl II, and since I have stories in both of them, this iteration contains two of my sapphic tales.

My First Review for Ditched!

DitchedYay, I got my first review for Ditched, which is my first m/m release. It gained a silver star within twelve hours of its release on All Romance eBooks!

Rainbow Book Reviews covered it, and here’s what they had to say:

“Short, hot and unashamedly erotic, this is a snippet from the life of two soldiers who suddenly discover they are interested in each other in a totally non-work related way. If you like short, hot stories that focus on the physical, and if fit soldiers getting out of their uniforms and forgetting where and who they are sound like a fun read, then you will probably like this short story.”

Check out the full review here.

Guest Blog: Slave Nano

The Dark Ages. What Dark Ages?

They used to be called The Dark Ages and are still thought as such by many people but the interpretation of the Anglo-Saxon period of history has been revised and is now general recognised as being nothing of the kind.

For many years the heroic Anglo-Saxon tale Beowulf was considered to be just that – a tale about Scandanavian kingdoms that bore little relation to how people in Anglo-Saxon England lived their lives.

Then, in 1938, the Sutton Hoo ship burial was discovered.  The penny dropped.  The tales about hoards of gold, magnificent swords, decorated helmets and the exchange of golden rings were found to actually be an accurate description of the culture of the age.  Anglo-Saxon kings really did have hoards of this amazing stuff.

Then of course the Staffordshire Hoard was discovered in a farmer’s field a few years ago and re-enforced this.  The Anglo-Saxon’s were shown to have huge wealth, trading links to the outside world and the skilled craftsmen to fashion magnificent objects.  I had the privilege to see the Staffordshire Hoard when it first went on display in Stoke Museum.  I had to queue about 2 hours to get in as it had caught people’s imaginations so much but it was worth every minute for the privilege of seeing these wondrous artefacts.

So, when archaeologist Sam in my story shows Dan photographs of the things found in a burial mound and describes the source for the gold, amber and garnet, all of that is accurate. The gold would most likely have been coins from Byzantium, traded across Europe and then melted down to fashion ceremonial objects and jewellery.

So, to have Cyneburh, my own Pagan Sorceress, dripping with gold shoulder clasps, rings and jewellery would have been pretty realistic. Alhfrith’s sword with its garnet encrusted pommel in the shape of a horse’s head and Cyneburh’s sceptre mounted with a golden stag and other objects described in the story are all inspired by the real finds from Sutton Hoo and the Staffordshire Hoard.

Story blurb

The Pagan SorceressIf you’re looking for an erotic read this Halloween then check out Slave Nano’s new release ‘The Pagan Sorceress’.  The action takes place on Samhain as archaeology student Sam sets out to re-enact a Pagan burial ceremony.

If the author of the Anglo-Saxon heroic tale Beowulf did erotica what might it have sounded like?  That’s the challenge author Slave Nano has set himself in his newly released novella ‘The Pagan Sorceress’, partly set in the Anglo-Saxon era.

Sam is about to carry out a strange experiment.  She is an archaeology student specialising in reconstructive archaeology and her idea is to recreate an Anglo-Saxon pagan burial ceremony.  It’s Samhain eve and the night of a full moon so it’s the perfect time to carry out such a ritual.  She enlists the help of her friend, Dan, and together they go off to the site of a burial mound where wonderful swords and sceptres were excavated many years ago.

A travelling story teller is at the court of a Saxon king.  He recites the tale of two soul-entwined lovers from an earlier, more chaotic, period when king’s warred amongst each other.  He tells the tragic tale of Cyneburh, Pagan sorceress and daughter of the mighty Pagan king Penda and Alhfrith, son of Athelwald the king of Deira, her hero-warrior lover and betrothed.  The two kings have formed a mighty political and religious alliance but, more than that, the young woman and man have forged a passionate union of their own.  But this new alliance has enemies and before their wedding night is over there will be a tragic outcome.  As King Penda stands at the edge of their burial chamber he invokes a curse of vengeance against the murderous act perpetrated against him.  But, how many years will it take before he is finally avenged?

As Sam stands on top of the burial mound dressed as an Anglo-Saxon pagan priestess with Dan at her side, is she aware of what ancient powers she will invoke as their lives become entwined with those of Cyneburh and Alhfrith from many centuries ago?  Will the pagan king’s oath of vengeance be fulfilled?  Will the souls of the two lovers be finally released?

Story extract

……Sam pulled out some colour photographs from her notes. Dan gasped.

“Yeah, now this is incredible isn’t?  Fuck all the ‘Dark Ages’ stuff these guys were skilled craftsmen and they traded stuff in from all over Europe and beyond – gold from Egypt, lapis lazuli from one cave in Afghanistan, amber from Russia and, get this, tests on the stones in that sword show the garnet came from a single site in India.”

Dan was now caught up in the maelstrom of Sam’s enthusiasm for the subject and he couldn’t help but be amazed at the photos spread out before him; golden buckles and clasps in intricate geometric patterns inlaid with precious stones, rings fashioned in the shape of serpents and dragons, a ceremonial golden helmet and decorated shield and the two outstanding objects, a sword with a golden pommel in the shape of a horse’s head and set with stones of dark red garnet and a golden sceptre surmounted with a beautifully wrought stag’s head.

“Most of the barrows had standard domestic stuff – bowls, pins, broaches but one burial mound threw up this remarkable stuff.  These objects must have belonged to Anglo-Saxon royalty or at the very least an incredibly wealthy and powerful thane.  Historians have speculated over who might have been buried in the mound – a king or member of a royal family or, from the symbolism of the artefacts, some pagan priestess….

Sunday Snog – Ditched

Sunday Snog

DitchedHere’s a saucy snippet from Ditched, my first m/m story, which was released on Wednesday, and got a silver star on All Romance eBooks in less than 12 hours!

“Well,” Scott said, his grin widening, “that’s very interesting.”

“It is?” Stone frowned, still half-expecting the other man to punch him in the face. He’d never shown any inclination toward homophobia before, but then Stone had never told him he liked men before.

“Yes,” Scott moved closer still, until they were almost toe-to-toe, “because I happen to bat for both sides, too.”

Stone’s jaw almost hit the floor. Of all the words that could have come out of the other man’s mouth, he was not expecting that particular combination. He couldn’t believe it—Scott liked men, too? The blond, blue-eyed, muscular, towering hottie was bi? And even more strangely, it appeared that Scott was interested in him, too. Either that or he’d suddenly forgotten about the unspoken personal space rules between people who weren’t intimate.

“Y—you do?”

Instead of replying, Scott slipped his hand behind Stone’s head and pulled him in for a kiss. Stone’s semi immediately snapped to attention, and after spending a couple of seconds wondering if he’d somehow fallen asleep and was dreaming, he returned the other man’s kiss. A thought popped into his head that they might be caught—and the consequences would be so severe they didn’t even bear thinking about—but then he shoved it away, reasoning with himself that they were the only people on the plain for miles, and if the helicopter approached, they’d hear it before they could see it. Therefore, the people in the chopper wouldn’t be able to see them, either. And by the time they could, the two men would be standing meters apart, acting normal. Probably.

Having put his mind at rest, Stone relaxed and allowed himself to fully enjoy the kiss. And what a kiss it was. A combination of having fancied Scott for ages; thinking it would never happen because the other man was straight; and the fact they were effectively making out in work time made an already super-hot kiss positively explosive. His cock pressed insistently against the inside of his boxers and combats, a firm reminder he hadn’t used it in a while.
