Alon Shalev lives and writes in two worlds. He is the author of three social justice-themed novels and a series of Young Adult Epic Fantasy. He swears there is a connection.

In 2010, while on a family camping trip in Northern California, Shalev began writing an epic fantasy novel to read to his sons around the campfire. Over the next five years, both sons and the ancient redwood forests bore witness to the summoning of the Wycaan Masters.

His first epic fantasy novel, At The Walls Of Galbrieth, won the 2013 Eric Hoffer Book Award - YA Category and was a Grand Prize Finalist. The sequel, The First Decree, was released in March 2013, and there has been a book every year. In September 2015, From Ashes They Rose - Wycaan Master Book 5, was releas

It is a discipline and you need to have your writing muscles toned. You do this by writing every day. Stuck? Go back and 3-4 chapters leading up to where you are. But you can only do that when you are sit in the chair and grind it out.

You can't stop writing and you wake in the middle of the night afraid for a character or crying for killing one of your heroes.

Grinding It Out - even prolific authors have bad days.

In over fifteen years of writing, I have rarely not ‘felt like writing.” Usually, I am frustrated that with a full-time job, family etc., that I don’t have enough time. I have expounded on this blog before about writing every day and I mean it. My absolute non-medical opinion is that there is a creative muscle somewhere in our bodies and, like the biceps and six-pack, it needs to nurtured…every da Read more of this blog post »

Excellent book - perfect reading in tense run up to election and ensuing days! Funny, honest, a nice insight to life in campaigning and in the White House. If anything was lacking, perhaps there could have been more on the actual speech writing, but ...more

Veronica Dale Thanks for befriending! I'm glad to hear that your books make a connection between young adults and social justice. For years I worked at a church that was very much involved in both areas, and I hope my books make that connection too.
