Thanks, girl! Hope you enjoy!!

Miss Bookiverse Hey, thanks for adding me as a friend :)
I just finished listening to the audiobook for Before I Fall, it was great! The reader did such an amazing job. How did you like it?
Now, at the end of the book I admired how much Sam has grown throughout the book and I thought it was a little bit sad that her friends didn't really profit from it. Have you imagined for yourself what will happen after the ending of the book? Won't Lindsey, Ally and Elody hate Juliet even more and make her responsible for what has happend to Sam?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and I'm very excited about your upcoming books. You're a great writer!

message 8: by Angel

Angel ok sooo.... i definitely loved before i fall... but i hated the ending... not trying to be mean. but i hate when books end without a real ending. that just means you should make a second one... but from what i can see it doesnt seem like you are.... so i dunno. i just feel like you should have created a more detailed ending that would at least give us a start to the end. opposed to did she die or didn't she? like yes you should use your imagination for a book, for setting and character appearance but not the actual story itself. but i do have to say i love your book, just not the ending. sorry

Lauren Angel wrote: "ok sooo.... i definitely loved before i fall... but i hated the ending... not trying to be mean. but i hate when books end without a real ending. that just means you should make a second one... but..."

That's okay, Angel. You don't have to love the ending! Sam does die at the end of the book, yes. Actually, in my head she dies at the start of the book: that is the single part of her fate that she can't change, the single thing she must accept. The book is really not about her having a chance to save her own life literally; but she does discover meaning through saving someone else's. I hope that makes sense! And I am writing another book, just not a sequel. It's called DELIRIUM and it is out in February 2011. :)

Hi! Thanks for your message, and thanks for reading so thoughtfully. To a certain extent I think that the world of the book now belongs as much to the reader as it does to me; thus why I left certain aspects of the ending ambiguous. But no, I like to think that Elody, Ally, and Lindsay will be altered and changed by what has happened--but for the better. I like to think that they will be sobered by Sam's death, and inspired by her selflessness, and humbled by her sacrifice. But that's just what *I* think!

Lauren Caroline wrote: "Hi, thanks for accepting my friend request :)

Ha--that's one of my favorite lines, too!
The idea for Before I Fall came from the fact that I really wanted to write a book about change, and the possibility of change. It was a character-driven idea, really; I wanted to show Sam's evolution, and I had to think of a set of circumstances that would allow her to grow.
I have TONS of tips for aspiring writers. First of all, you should write every day--even if you only write a little bit. EVERY DAY. Got it? :P
Second of all, read everything you can. Books, poetry, magazines, blogs, newspapers...you get me.
Third of all, listen to the people around you--listen to them speak, listen to their stories. Inspiration is everywhere!
Hope this helps!

Elisa Hi! As I was reading Before I Fall (which was beautiful, by the way) I kept wondering if you wrote Sam and her friends based on your personal high school experience, or if you wrote them based on what you hated about your high school experience? So basically, were you a Sam or a Juliet?

That's an interesting question. I was probably more Sam than Juliet in behavior, but to be honest, I think that we're ALL Juliets in terms of how we feel, at least at some point in our lives, and I definitely had a lot of that in me too. I think we are all some combination of both: cruel and bullied; afraid and pretending not to be afraid; insecure and over-confident; generous and mean. The trick is to just keep coaxing yourself to be better and better!

Jonathan Maxen Before I Fall really is fantastic. Envy your writing. Delirium...really can't wait.

Amber Paige OH! I forgot to write this in my last post...there's a song that goes very nicely with Delirium. It's called "Love Is My Disease" by Alicia Keys. It's not the same idea, but it's close enough to love being a 'disease.'
