Beryl Shaw was born the daughter to a surgeon in San Francisco, California. She grew up on the family’s one-hundred acre ranch in Napa, California. During her teens, she lived in French Polynesia and later returned to the states to attend Stanford University, among other universities. She earned a BA in French, a BFA and MFA in painting and drawing, specializing in figurative and portraiture art. For a decade, she exhibited paintings in ten states of America, and she is a published artist. Switching careers, she began writing ten years ago. When Water Flows Uphill is her third novel.
