Summer 2017: Exploring Seattle

Well, this is coming in late. Yeah, I know, I know — it’s December! But I’ve been sitting on this video for a long time and only just now decided that I should upload and share it.

First Look: Alexis & Tyler

I met Alexis in 2015. The only thing I really remember about our first encounter was that I learned that she liked Harry Potter. TBH, that’s all that mattered.

You see, there’s something you need to know about me: I LOVE Harry Potter. Browse through some of these old blog posts and you’ll find that Harry Potter was a recurring theme during my high school years. I think I’ve calmed down a lot since high school, but make no mistake: I’m still a massive Potterhead at heart.

So when I say that Al...

A look inside Provo Canyon’s homeless camps

My story package on homelessness in Provo, Utah, was one of the hardest news pieces I’ve written thus far. Not only is it a difficult topic to tackle, but finding the people who are open to talking about it is challenging as well.

Thankfully, I had the opportunity to ride along with a deputy from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. He gave me a first-hand look at some of the abandoned campsites left in Provo Canyon by the local homeless population.

This video accompanies one part of the two-par...

Utah’s homeless depend on camping

John Taylor Beesley was preparing to set up camp in Provo when a police officer told him he had to leave. The nearby business owners had requested that the police department cite people for loitering, according to the officer.

That posed a problem for Beesley. His bike was broken — and even if he could have gone elsewhere, it wouldn’t have helped. He was homeless and had nowhere to go.

“You’re welcome to take me to jail,” Beesley recalled telling the officer. “I’d love a warm place to stay an...

Millennial Mormons Abandon Political Labels In The Age Of Trump

With reporting by Eric Baker, Morgan Berry, Jenna Crowther, Savannah Hopkinson, Matt John, Tassji Krup, Ashley Lee, Saul Marquez, Carley Porter, Laura Spilsbury, Hannah Stanford, Camilla Stimpson, Rebecca Sumsion and Anne Taylor.

PROVO, Utah ― For millennials in Utah, one of the most conservative states in the nation, it’s long been undesirable to call yourself a Democrat. Now, almost nine months into Donald Trump’s presidency, it’s increasingly taboo to identify as a Republican as well.

Netflix’s ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’, Season One Review

Netflix’s adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is the adaptation fans have been dreading waiting for.

That’s not to say that Nickelodeon’s 2004 film wasn’t any good. In fact, I love the movie and I’m still raving about Jim Carrey’s performance as Count Olaf. However, the show takes what was accomplished in the movie a step further. It’s really a show for the fans.

The amount of detail laced in Netflix’s show is incredible. If you were like me as a kid and found joy te...

Learning Liberty (Photo Essay)

The following is a photo essay done for an advanced French class at Brigham Young University. The essay was originally published on a class blog and is now being republished here so I can easily access it in the future and share it with anyone who stumbles across this website.

While the subject of the essay could have been about anything, I chose the subject of the 2016 United States Presidential Election. The photos below were taken the day of the election in Orem, Utah.

2016, comme chaque...

In 2013, I read 31 books.

I’m going to do better with keeping this thing updated. I promise. Even if the blog posts are short and simple (like this one!)

So in 2013, I read 31 books. A few of them were some of the best books I’ve ever read (ever), and others were some of the worst books I’ve ever read (ever).

My favorite three books I read this past year:

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Only one of those actually came out this year, but a lot of this year has b...

Bonjour!

Hey, after two years, the blog is back and it’s shiny and newish again. :)

Be sure to check out:

Within the next week I’ll be fixing the site up a bit, namely updating information on the Space Dog books (which are currently...
