How to Use Duotrope Program

Come and join us as I show folks how to use Duotrope, one of my favorite indexing services–live. I ADORE Duotrope! Since I started subscribing I’ve had two chapbooks and almost 40 poems picked up by publishers. In addition to poetry, most small presses and journals want fiction, nonfiction and artwork. So if you write any of those, or are an artist, this service could be handy for you. Please note: It costs $50/year to subscribe to Duotrope. (There are a few aspects of its service one can use free.) You do NOT need to subscribe to attend. And I am NOT affiliated with Duotrope, other than as a librarian I am blown away by its indexing, timeliness, and coverage. Let me introduce you to a really helpful tool. I WILL NOT be selling it–just rejoicing in the fact that it exists and that I will get to share it with you. Hosted by the River City Writers chapter of the Florida Writers Association. Shutta Wins 3 Royal Palm Awards: 2022

Excited to report that I won three Royal Palm Awards this year. Silver for an unpublished picture book: Blink! Blink! (Any editors interested in seeing it?) Silver for a published poem (below). And gold for an unpublished poem at the time of entry. That one has since been picked up by a major journal ( Boulevard), so I can’t post it until after it is published. Needless to say, I was over the moon!

My award-winning poem: HOW POETRY REFRAMES THE MOMENT is below. It was originally published in Acumen, a literary magazine in England. Enjoy!
