Whose Got Your Back?
Playing around with some ideas… liking the thought of combining the cartoon "me" with photos. This didn't turn out like I envisioned (what does?), but just doing it is progress.

Hotei (Japanese Netsuke)
I went to Church this morning and Jesus told me that I would commune so much better with this Hotei carving* if I proceeded directly on line to B&H Photo (shalom) to buy a macro lens for my camera. Arriving on Tuesday. Praise Be.

Snow!!!
from the bedroom window
By Rochester-Buffalo standards, it's not much — only a foot or so, but the temp is up around freezing, so it's very slippery-slidey. Jim ventured out but couldn't get back up the hill. Neither can the snowplow. Everyone seems happy to declare a snowday and stick close to the hearth.

Playing With My Camera
I haven't figured out yet why I need a camera to take such gigantic pictures, where the figurine is in focus but you can see the mesh in the screen behind her.
Above is a detail from the photo (left) taken from our bedroom window yesterday. Snow on the ground. Lots more in progress as I write this.
Below is the same view (no figurine), at night — the local strip mall looking like Broadway in the distance.

Follow the Bouncing Ball
I've been working hard this year to maintain focus on a limited number of things. Avoid swimming on the surface; go deep. Fine. But now a little bored with myself. Need to loosen up. Boing!!!
This week I'm pinballing between "bible studies" and "techno-obsession" — with some cooking and some vacation planning in between.
When I listen to "The Bible: A Biography," I feel like I'm partaking of the whole of Western civilization as seen through the eyes of religious scholars and sages. Then I find ...

And When I Say "Never," Pay No Attention
Wasn't I just telling somebody that I would never get another fancy camera again — that they were too heavy, too complicated, and an impediment to my taking pictures at all? Wasn't I just saying how I loved my point-and-shoot?
So why did I find myself in a fevered state yesterday morning buying an SLR online from BestBuy and rushing down to Henrietta to pick it up immediately?
Why do I get in a fever about anything? A little restlessness? An addiction to the learning curve?
The most photography ...

My Bible Kick Continues: Sue-pocalypse II
I was in kind of a seventh-grader twist over Genesis when my cousin Tracy gave me her perspective and led me to take a step back to see the big picture. I listened to an audio version of The Bible: A Biography by Karen Armstrong. It was a little overwhelming to get a history of the Bible covering about 2500 years. But it is comforting to know that people have been arguing about and tinkering with the text during that whole time. It's a great testament to how humans tend to overthink...
