These books aren't perfect, but they are magical. I hope that makes sense. I'm so glad to have spent my summer with them and hope to finish all of them before too long. Honestly, devoting my summer to the Oz books during the pandemic was the best cho ...more

I love how quirky and weird the Oz books are. We all know the basic story of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, though a lot was left out or changed for the movie, but The Marvelous Land of Oz and Ozma of Oz lead us through amazing twists and turns. I can't ...more

“So I try to use old words, inherited from generation
after generation, and try to make them say new things
as if there was never love before us
on this earth, as if every day we’re not drinking
and breathing the molecules of long-dead lovers
who thought they, too, had invented love,
who felt these same tensions and betrayals
and tried to use old words to describe these hopes
and glories of the flesh and mind, and failed
as I have, to say the thing anew.
— Shaindel Beers, closing lines to “I Give You Words,” The Brief History of Time (Salt Publishing, 2009)”

You poem "Cicadas" is FANTASTIC! First of all, I loved the sound of the words...and because of your poem I was introduced to the wonderful sounding word: viburnum.
And when I read it again, I appreciated your take on the concept of time...
Thanks for sharing your writing!

Argh...this is terrible...
Again, I'm very sorry.

Here’s wishing you a nifty New Year filled with noiseless noses, neato nicknames, noble Nebraskans, gnarly narcoleptic nebulas, and novel novels about nut-eating narwhals and novercaphobic gnats.

P.S.—I’m currently offering autographed/personally-inscribed copies of my novel, Vacation, with free shipping for those in the US. If there’s anything you could do to help me spread the word about this, I’d really appreciate it. Feel free to click here for details:
