Pheasants, Maples, Next Winter

Playing catch-up around here after a week on the road.  Doing some writing of course, some reading (still dipping into Montaigne now and then), paying bills, cleaning out car, reacquainting myself with deadlines (at least two things due in the next week).

But also some good outside time.  All of a sudden I'm seeing and hearing cock pheasants.  Last year they seemed to disappear, but in the past few days I've seen several, including a real beauty at the end of the driveway and this morning...

Home Again

Well, what a week.  We covered a whole bunch of ground.  Thank you to everyone who came and held down a seat, and to all those folks along the way who did a little something for us here and there.  And thank you to the Long Beds for bringing Tiny Pilot to life onstage.  What fun for me to run around the country with a crew like them.  We're turning into a band!

Am home now.  Just fed the chickens, checked the maple taps, and earlier today I helped change the two-year-old's tights…she almost

Read and spoke at the local Unitarian Universalist Church yesterday.  About faith, shaken faith, wandering versus seeking, the idea of universal humility, and how our spiritual foundations shape us long after we leave the house.  I also spoke of my gratitude for my children (their presence forces me to examine my heart on a daily basis) and my parents (their faithful example influences me always, even though some might not see it).  I would add my wife, who endures my wobbly-headed ways.
