Gina McMurchy-Barber is an award winning Canadian author. Her books are favourites with teachers and librarians looking for stories that will touch the heart. Her latest book, The Jigsaw Puzzle King, (Jan. 2020) has 11 year old Warren coming to terms with how society judges his brother who has Down syndrome. But when you have a family member in your life who is exceptional for one reason or another it's hard to be "just like everyone else." When I was young this was how I felt. Sometimes I distanced myself from my sister who had Down syndrome, other times I was like a tiger and tore into anyone who was disrespectful or ignorant in how they treated her. In the end I learned not to care what other people thought about Jane or me. Life got a whole lot easier after that.(less)

This is a great read. I enjoyed the stories within the stories. Glen Huser is a wonderful writer and paints wonderful images with his words, like "...the sun was only a skim of molten gold along the mountain peak." Highly recommended.
