The more time you spend sitting down and writing, the more writing you get done. And I try free-writing in my notebooks. I don't stop and read other people's novels as that just makes me want to cry. Well, I guess sometimes I do if I am feeling particularly self-indulgent in my writer's block, then I read other novels and I look at reviews and I look up how long it took them to write their novel. That is why it is really best to just keep writing and not looking up. Wear blinkers.(less)

I was living in Paris in the 6ème arrondissement, near to the Jardin du Luxembourg. I have five children, which meant I spent a lot of my days walking. I walked back and forth across the jardin every day, several times a day, through the different seasons. I saw children coming out of school, hanging out in the jardin. I saw them playing football on the dalle, I saw them getting dropped off at... Read more of this blog post »

I Love You Too Much by Alicia Drake
"Really amazing debut novel, a secret Paris you never see as a tourist, the real story behind the chic privilege. The details are so so interesting but it's the emotion of it, the profound story of a little boy that makes it top tier -- it wrecked..." Read more of this review »

"🌟🌟🌟🌟💫/5

“Paris will never change, not for you, not for me. Paris doesn’t care that you are dying inside; it will always be beautiful, untouchable, aloof, unmoved by you and your pathetic fate.”

I Love You Too Much was very sad, very tragic, but also..." Read more of this review »

More of Alicia's books…
“Corey was hanging out down by the port one afternoon with Karl and Jacques when a bus-load of american tourists drove by, and in a moment of clarity Corey suddenly perceived Karl in the light of reality rather than through the kaleidoscope of fashion: the tourists were staring open-mouthed through the bus windows, ice creams held in mid-air, gawping at the apparition that was Karl. Jacques was driving the mobylette and Karl sat behind riding side-saddle dressed in hot pants, long strands of pearls and dark glasses; he was wielding a raw frankfurter straight from the packet in one hand and a bottle of coca-cola in the other. I remember thinking "I am with this total freak," says Corey.”

“It deified a certain posture: static, cream-shouldered, jutting hips, cigarette poised between lipstick and eternity.”

“And opposite Jacques sat Karl Lagerfeld, German ready-to-wear designer, lavish in wing collar and monocle, a fashion force in the making.”
