How to Write About Suicide and Self-Harm

The UK Society of Authors recently published a new factsheet on writing about suicide and self-harm, and I wanted to highlight it and draw attention to its main lessons. Stories are powerful, and writers consequently bear a heavy responsibility for getting it right and not doing harm, especially when it comes to writing about topics like suicide and self-harm.

“So really there's almost no point in planning anything out at all, because life is so infinitely complex that you can almost never just take a straight road from A to B without going via the whole rest of the alphabet first, and all because a butterfly happened to flap its wings in Thailand”

Richard Thanks for adding me, Andrew. I look forward to reading your updates and more of your reviews. I like making recommendations too, but you're so well read I hesitate to do it. However, if there is any author or topic you see among my shelves that you are curious about, I'd be more than happy to advise if I can.

As for the giveaway, well, c'est la vie! Maybe next time... :)
