That’s Not Who We Are
Was suprised to find out this strip had been nominated for an Ignatz award this morning. I was not expecting that, and I am beyond honored to have been considered. Thankyou to Matt Bors and The Nib for commisioning it from me, and thankyou to Eleri Harris my wonderful editor.

The Democrats are maybe like Charlie Brown and the football with Donald Trump and race, continually thinking there’s going to be something so over the line it’ll force his most ardent supporters to just snap out of it, or Republicans to go beyond grumbles and “concern”. Donald Trump led the Birther movement. If racism was a deal breaker, he wouldn’t be President.
But… so what? It needs to be talked about, and the people who want to see the country move in a better direction have to speak up every time. Since when was this an easy fix in this country? Since when has everyone all gotten on the same page about it? One of the things that very well meaning people do that is maybe misguided, is say stuff like “racism is un-American”. Uh, not really.
I’d like to see more fallout from this, but maybe the takeaway is just the absolute knowledge that this is where the President’s is on this. Maybe knowing exactly what you’re dealing with counts for something.

That’s Not Who We Are
*sigh*
I lost it at the last panel though wtf.
smh we are doom as a society and species.
I sincerely agreed with one thing President Trump said in his mealy-mouthed comments on the violence in Charlottesville on Saturday, this didn’t start with him, or with Obama, it goes back well before today. It’s the history of America. Days later, I don’t think it matters what else Trump has to say about this, he’s shown us who he is.

The Underdog Myth
WOW
America worships bullies. Even in our popular stories where the underdog prevails, he usually does so by becoming a bully.
America loves the story of white male underdogs. It’s why revenge of the nerds is considered a “classic” even though the main characters are bastards.
If it’s an underdog story of non-white person they’ll tell you 5209364 reasons why that person shouldn’t win and is the villain. It’s why people on here keep demonizing Finn from the new Star Wars movie and wanting him to be replaced with Kylo Ren. Cause to them Kylo is a misunderstood underdog who deserves to win
