When she was three years old, Kathleen Buckley’s father bought a set of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Big books! With all kinds of words (and pictures) in them! By the age of twelve, she knew she wanted to write fiction (she also wanted to be a journalist, a spy and a spaceperson—but NASA wasn’t accepting female spacepersons then. She never became a journalist because she hates asking pushy questions, nor a spy, because she’s not good with foreign languages, has bad eyes and is not athletic. In semi-retirement, she began to write full-time, at least when not pursuing her other hobbies: reading, cats, cooking, costume, and spinning wheel repair. And no, she can’t spin. That will have to come after the spinning wheel repair.

I'm more of a real book person, myself (i.e., on actual paper). At the moment I'm recovering from eye surgery and am not quite back to actual reading yet (as opposed to replying to email (and weeding out the e-sales flyers and donation requests) but hope to be reading again in the next couple of weeks. I don't recall if I mentioned that what caused me to buy The Fountain of Youth was the blurb in the new releases announcement. Sometimes when I read the announcements, I wince. Yours reeled me in. Oh, about my library: Don't read The Alien Trace or its sequel (not that I think anyone could find a copy at this late date): they were a contract job from about 30 years ago, aimed at adolescent boys of all ages.

If you want to mail me a copy of your book, my address is 3417 Cardenas Drive NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. I'll look forward to it.(less)

A Drachm For What Ails You

We’ve all heard of the old medical procedure of bleeding a patient for…well, almost anything. Less well known are the remedies for various ailments and injuries. Many of them probably did no harm, though most probably required a strong stomach and no gag reflex. I haven't included any that used animal dung as an ingredient although various sorts, including that of peacocks, continued to be employ
