YOU’RE TOO SMART TO FALL FOR MISLEADING PACKAGING
Be a smart consumer ! Studies have shown that given a choice between two identical products with differing labels consumers will perceive a product with certain shades of green on the packaging as being a healthier choice. We’re guessing the same holds true for barns, cows, and cartoon suns.
This video is fun….and also a great reminder. Don’t be fooled by dishonest labeling.

HEALTHY SCHOOL LUNCHES
There are hundreds of ways to protect your children from disease. Don’t miss out on one of the most important, and long lasting, means of protection. Instill healthy habits at an early age. Marilu has been at the forefront of this for a long time, writing about it in HEALTHY KIDS and speaking about the issue before Congress.
There are many caring parents out there who research every aspect of child rearing, from breast v. bottle, to vaccinations, and pre-school. Then they buckle their children into their safety seat and give them a snack bag full of sugar and chemicals.
Offer healthy food at home and be pro-active locally to protect their health when they are in school. It’s one of the best investments you can make in your child’s future.

DAIRY FREE
There’s so much to say about this subject that this space can barely scratch the surface. We’re going to put some points here for you to consider and invite you to join us in our current class where we are discussing this in more depth. Living dairy free is one of the most important aspects (if not THE most important) of The Total Health Makeover. Of the ten steps in Marilu’s program this may be the one that will show you the most dramatic results in both your health and appearance.
Marilu has reminded us that that the only thing milk is supposed to do is to turn a 50 pound calf into a 300 pound cow in six months. And more colorfully “You wouldn’t drink the breast milk of your neighbor, but you’ll drink from the udder of a cow you don’t even know” Think about that. Our digestive enzymes are not capable of breaking down a food that is designed to nurse the young of another species.
And if you think that the milk you drink is from a happy cow on a picturesque farm who is enjoying the relief and attention of her daily milking you need to educate yourself about where that milk is really coming from and what you’re ingesting along with it. Swimming on top of your morning cereal are growth hormones, antibiotics (you don’t think sick cows are given a day off do you?) blood and mucous from the UN-happy cows with mastitis.
Please join us and find out more. Giving up dairy isn’t just good for the cow it’s good for YOU and your family as well. A dairy free lifestyle can help you with digestive issues, acne, psoriasis, and sinus problems. Go dairy free and reduce your risk of heart disease and arthritis. Lose the dark circles and puffiness under your eyes and find cheekbones that you never knew you had.

Valentine’s Day is a good time to remind ourselves that love is about more than cards and candy. Sometimes it’s about rolling up your sleeves and going to bat for the people you love. And it’s ALWAYS about taking care of yourself for the people you love !!

MEATLESS MONDAY …..Made Simple !
The following recipe is from HEALTHY HOLIDAYS. Marilu lists this as a menu item for an Academy Awards dinner party. We love that idea. There are so many great suggestions in that chapterfor getting into the spirit of the awards. Some of those are sure to spark your own creativity as well.
This recipe would also be a great as a Valentines Day meal. Add a fresh salad, a nice bottle of red wine, light some candles, and you’ve got a romantic evening without breaking the bank or stressing you out in the kitchen.
(Note: there are many good gluten free pastas on the market that would work well in this dish.)
LINGUINE WITH GARLIC AND RED PEPPER
Salt
1 pound linguine
3 or 5 Tablespoons olive oil
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper flakes
3 cloves garlic, sliced
1/2 cup chopped fresh organic parsley
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
In a large pot over high heat, add 6 quarts of water and bring to a boil. Add a teaspoon of salt and the linguine. Cook for 11 minutes, until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat, add the oil and red pepper flakes; cook 2 minutes. Add the garlic and saute until the garlic is lightly browned, about 30 seconds. Remove from the heat, Stir in the pasta, parsley, salt to taste and pepper. Combine the sauce with the linguine and serve immediately.
