TAKE THE FIRST STEP
What can you do today? You don’t have to do it perfectly. A 10 second plank? That’s better exercise than a one hour nap. A very plain, or slightly burned, home cooked meal? It’s still healthier than take out fried anything. Two cookies instead of five? You’re moving in the right direction ! That’s all you need to do to move towards a healthier you !

WEIGHING IN

We all know that not all measurements can be taken at face value. A pound of fat takes up more space in your body than a pound of muscle. Cholesterol needs to be considered as “good” cholesterol v. “bad” cholesterol.
The same holds true for calories and grams.
One chocolate covered creme filled doughnut contains about 21 grams of fat; about the same amount as a ripe organic avocado. Two cups of grapes will hold nearly as many calories as a small pack of skittles but in each of these scenarios it’s pretty easy to see which choice will nourish your body AND satisfy your hunger. Remember hunger is nothing more than your body asking for nutrition.

FOOD (fattening food?) FOR THOUGHT
This article from The New York Times contains fascinating information on the history of antibiotics in our food supply. Could antibiotics be flipping the “fat switch” in our bodies? If so it’s not the only reason, maybe not even the best reason, to avoid consuming meat but it IS another consideration. Of special concern is the reason why this might be happening. The article states:
“The Blaser lab also investigates whether antibiotics may be changing the animals’ microbiome — the trillions of bacteria that live inside their guts. These bacteria seem to play a role in all sorts of immune responses, and, crucially, in digesting food, making nutrients and maintaining a healthy weight.”
