More Birthday Wishes

Yes, we wished Marilu a Happy Birthday yesterday, but when you've influenced as many people as Marilu has the birthday wishes just keep on coming !  Here's one from one of our wonderful coaches, Kecia.


Happy Birthday Marilu!


On this day that you are born I will celebrate and thank God for you. But to be honest, I do that every day. When I watched you before on TV, or in a movie, I knew you were beautiful, but that was what I saw only on the outside. Never in my wildest dreams did I think  that I would ever know you or that you would change my life so much.


You are as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside.   I credit you for helping me change my life. I am not sure that I would ever have found the path of health  if you had not written the Total Health Makeover books. 


 My wish for you on this very special day is that you are  blessed as much as you have been  a blessing to me.

AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Egg White Facial



 


You don't have to spend big bucks on salon products.  Your kitchen can be a great source of beauty supplies.  Check out this tip from Marilu's book The 30 Day Total Health Makeover:



Give yourself an egg white facial. I learned this when I was eleven years old (not that i needed to tighten my pores at eleven, but i knew what was coming): 1. Crack open an egg, make sure that the yolk doesn't break. 2. Switch it back and forth between the two half shells, and make sure you get the yolk out of there, so you just have the egg white. 3. Put it on your face, as if you were washing your face with it, and let it harden. 4. Rinse off with tepid water.

Simple Spinach Soup

This recipe is from Marilu's book,  "Wear Your Life Well".  Be sure to pre-order Marilu's newest book "Total Memory Makeover".  (Follow the  link right here on our homepage and you can place your order prior to it's April 24th release!)


SIMPLE SPINACH SOUP


4 cups vegetable broth


1/2 cup chopped chard or kale


1 large carrot, sliced thin


1 and 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms


2 cups fresh baby spinach


In a large pot over medium heat, bring the broth and chard to a boil for 3-5 minutes.  Add the carrot and mushrooms.  When the carrot is tender, add the spinach.  Stir for about 5 seconds and it's done.


Add a tossed salad and some crusty bread with hummus for spreading or olive oil for dipping. This soup is good for you in SO MANY ways ! It's  super easy, doesn't take a lot of time to prepare or cook, and it's budget friendly as well.

Play the fool

On April Fool's Day this quote pertains to all of us.  Too often, as adults, we  think we'll look foolish engaging in anything that feels like play; dancing to the radio, playing tag or driveway basketball with our kids.  Yet these are activities that Marilu specifically recommends for healthy movement.  So get out there. Draw with chalk and play hopscotch, ride a bike,  run around the yard, or have a water balloon fight. Don't worry about the neighbors.  If they're looking at you funny it might mean they just want to play too.

Firm Foundations

Marilu has mentioned this more than once in her on-line chats and classes.  Make sure you have top quality tires, sneakers and mattresses.  There are plenty of places where you can cheap out without affecting your health and safety but these three areas are NOT those places. 


At the change of seasons it's a good time to take stock of these three foundation items. 


~Take your car in and have the tires checked.  At the very least you may need to have them rotated or get a front end alignment. 


~ A running store can give you a good fit and determine if your current footwear is still okay and if it's the best fit for you.


~And mattresses?  Well when AREN'T they on sale?  But you don't have to run right out and spend the big bucks.  You can get more life out of your  current mattress by turning it over and rotating it once a month.

A Ticket to Ride


 


Did you know that in addition to burning about 500 calories in a 40 minute session a spin class can help you tone your bottom and work your entire lower body as well as your core? 


If you're not a member of a gym you can just hit the streets on your own bike.   The key to consistent exercise is making it fun.


 Just enjoy the bike like the toy it used to be when you were a kid.  This is one form of exercise where it's mostly about pure fun.  Well that and safety…so be sure to don a helmet and obey the laws !
