Star Trek: Leap of Faith
This is the last of my Star Trek stories, I promise. It's a story I always thought needed to be done on Star Trek: Captain Picard and crew find actual proof that God exists. I wrote this in 1997, as an entry in the Strange New Worlds contest.
Star Trek: Leap of Faith
"The Debri," said Jean-Luc Picard, "are the ultimate skeptics." He let his gaze wander around the briefing room table, momentarily locking eyes with each of his officers. "Throughout their recorded history they have rejected any...

Star Trek: Final Requiem
Yet another Star Trek fan fiction. I'm starting to think I spent way too much time writing Star Trek stuff. This one is a sequel to the original series episode Requiem for Methuselah. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think this is also the only time travel story I've ever written, Star Trek or not. I wrote this one in 1999. Star Trek: Final Requiem Data watched impassively through the shuttle's forward window as the ruddy brown planet grew larger. For the 6,813th time he wondered why he'd...

Are books too damn long these days?
I don't like long books. I don't like to write them, and I don't like to read them. Unless it's a Robert Jordan (R.I.P.) book, I try to avoid reading books that are more than 150-200 pages long.
By long, I mean pretty much anything over 100k words. The shorter the better. I like the standard definition of novel sitting at 50k words. Seems like a reasonable length in which to tell an entertaining story. To me, anything far above that is just excessive.
Lately, I've developed such an aversion...

Star Trek Voyager: Phantoms of the Mind
More Star Trek fan fiction, this one based on my non-Star Trek short story Phantoms of the Mind, from my short story collection of the same title. I wrote the original short back in 1988 and this Star Trek version in 1998. Star Trek Voyager:Phantoms of the Mind
Harry Kim crawled through the bowels of Voyager. The Jeffries Tube clutched him like a fist. He pulled himself forward inch by inch. Sweat covered his body and soaked his uniform. The toolkit he pushed ahead of himself scraped harshly...

Star Trek Voyager: Home
Another Star Trek fan fiction story that I wrote in the late 1990's. Star Trek Voyager:Home
From behind Captain Janeway, Harry Kim called out, "Captain, long range sensors are picking up a vessel three parsecs off the port bow. Moving very slowly.""What sort of vessel?" Janeway asked."Resolution is poor at this distance, but I don't recognize the configuration. And, well, the computer...""Yes, Mr. Kim?""The computer says it matches the configuration of a class of sub-light ships from 21st...

Star Trek: The Haunting of Orgala 512
Here is another piece of Star Trek fan fiction I wrote. I wrote it in 1998 or 1999. Star Trek: The Haunting of Orgala 512 Data, dressed all in black leather, paused in the corridor outside Ten Forward. He placed his hands on either side of his head and gently twisted until the magnetic clamps disengaged. His head came free from his shoulders with a pneumatic hiss. He cradled it gently against his waist in the crook of his right arm, and stepped up to the doors. They swished open, and...

Star Trek: Intrepid Voyagers
Here is another Star Trek story I wrote waaaaaay back in 1998 for the Strange New Worlds Contest. Star Trek: Intrepid Voyagers Harry Kim's laughter rang across the bridge, cutting like a knife through a silence born from the boredom of the past two weeks, which Voyager had spent crossing a remarkably unremarkable expanse of space.Chakotay turned around, unable to prevent a smile from spreading across his face. Harry's laughter was infectious. "Would you mind sharing the joke, Mr. Kim?"...

What I'm reading right now
Here are the books I'm reading right now:
Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder. It's an okay book. Nothing really outstanding about it. But it's interested me enough to keep reading, which is getting harder and harder to do these days. It's fairly short, too, so that entices me also. It's a young adult book. I find myself reading a lot of young adult stuff lately. Mainly because the books are so much shorter. I'm tired of the massive "epics" that seem to be about the only thing the big publishers are...

Star Trek: Warp Speed
I wrote the following as an entry in the now-defunct Strange New Worlds contest that Pocket Books did a few years back. All of the stories I wrote for it were rejected. Boo hoo.
WARP SPEED
Captain's Log, Stardate 5319.5For the past 11 days the Enterprise has been in drydock at Starbase 17, getting a complete overhaul. My crew has returned from shore leave and we are currently heading for deep space at Warp 4. We've been assigned a mapping mission that won't bring us back to Federation space...

Exclusive writing
I'm going to start posting some of my writing that you won't find anywhere else. A lot of it will be unfinished stuff, and some of it will be stuff that I can't legally sell because I don't own the rights to the characters. Like the following Star Trek short story, which I wrote for the now-defunct Strange New Worlds contest. I'll try to upload something new like this at least once a week for the next few months.
