Adding to the conversation

I'm looking forward to going back to school today and meeting my new class! Whenever I start to get nervous, I reminisce about the students I've met so far, and how much they've changed my life for the better. How every group has been so unique, yet equally wonderful. How they've added layers to my writing and personal life in surprising ways.

It's like what Holly Black ( [info:] blackholly ) says about every book adding to the conversation. I think every new writer does that too. Each one comes with a...

JoNoWriMo+1.5 is coming!

It's SEPTEMBER! :-)

For me, that means...

Reaching the big 4-0, celebrating my wedding anniversary, meeting my next class, and...

JoNoWriMo+1.5!

If I have at least 10 people interested in doing this again, I'll be happy to host! Tentative start date is September 16 and we'll finish on December 1.

I think I screwed up last year and THIS is our fifth year. But I have no idea. Anyone?? If you'd like to join, I'll start making a list. I'll post here and there from time to time before our start dat...

Need help, ENCORE, free book, and officially banned

Yesterday I sat down to try to set up my new back-up system and either I am a total moron (this would not shock me) or the power cord does not fit into the machine. You stick the cord in the hole and it looks like it should fit but it just falls out.

Why? What am I missing?

Also? Apple really needs someone to rewrite their instruction manuals because they are EXTREMELY difficult to follow. Sorry Apple!

And in some BSP* news...

I was really surprised and happy to learn that NESCBWI chose my works...

Happy Friday 5!

1. I am SOOOO happy to have my laptop back with me, even if the guy made fun of my background pic.

Guy. Who doesn't love Appa?

2. And to not have lost 6 years worth of pics of the boy. Especially during the sweet "I am Harry" phase at age 8:

3. Now I just have to figure out how on earth to set up Time Capsule to get everything backed up.

I have this irrational fear that when I unplug our current router I will never get Internet back. My husband shares this fear so it's just not just me. :) Has ...

Letter to myself... and you

Today I am over at my friend Anna's for her "Letter to Myself" Series.

Excerpt:

Dear Me, sixteen years ago:

This is where I see you at your most vulnerable: You are sitting in the parking lot at Whole Foods (back then it was called Bread and Circus) in Hadley Massachusetts. You are crying, because when you tried to pay for your groceries with your bank card, it was denied. You are also crying because you just moved from the city to a strange place where the best job you could find was a...

Offline for a while :(

Hi All,

So last night, just as Peter and E were driving away for a night of dinner and the opera and I was facing a blissful night of writing and maybe a movie that didn't involve swords and sorcerers, my computer decided it no longer wanted to wake up or turn back on.

Praying praying praying the hard drive can be saved.

Anyway, I can't take it in for repair until tomorrow and who knows how long the wait will be. If I owe you e-mail or an interview or anything else that requires a computer, plea...

Marcel

Kara LaReau posted this on her Facebook page a few days ago and I've been thinking about the benefits of lint ever since. So, I thought I'd leave those of you who haven't seen it yet, with something to make you smile on a Friday afternoon. Besides the obvious reasons to smile on a Friday afternoon, that is.

Have a great weekend!!

Finding "The Beautiful Page"

A lot of times, when I'm reading a new book, I anticipate what I guess I'd call the beautiful page. It's the page that sort of defines the book. It's the page that sings it all together.

Lately, I find myself turning down the corner of that page. Some of these books end up having lots of dog-eared pages. Some, not so much. But there's always one. And when I finish the book, I go back and read it again, because that's what I want to remember most.

My latest example is from Whales On Stilts, by ...
