Crowd sourcing Pie Book. Can you help?

Pie bird

Calling all pie lovers!

Hello friends, family and pie lovers!

I have decided to reprint my book about pie called A Slice of Humboldt Pie and could use your help. I’m going through a new crowd sourcing entity called Pubslush that only focuses on books. They are here to support writers in publishing and marketing their works. So I am humbly asking the world if there is anybody out there who would like to support a writer? And for this you will be rewarded.

Here are the contribution levels:

$5 – Thank you email that includes a pie baking tip.

$10 – Thank you email that includes a pie recipe from the book.

$25 – Signed pie book

$50 – Signed book plus pie-baking tool

$75 – Signed book plus oven mitt

$100 – Fort Collins residents only. A signed book plus a home-baked pie delivered to your house.

To contribute, go to my The Pie Book page. And please feel free to spread the pie love and share this link with your friends.

About the book: Ten years ago when I lived in California, I went on a quest to find the perfect pie crust. It created a domino effect where once I met one pie baker, he or she had another friend who made pies that I should talk to. So I went on a series of interviews where I visited with folks in Humboldt County who invited me into their homes for a slice of warm pie. A Slice of Humboldt Pie is a collection of essays that also includes the recipes each person shared. I did find the perfect pie crust, and I also made new friends along the way. Includes dozens of recipes and pie baking tips.

What You’ll be Funding: I’ll use the funds raised to reprint the book and then have fun marketing it with tie-ins to National Pie Day and National Pi Day. I also plan to do a crust demonstration at a local shop to encourage people to make their crusts from scratch. Funds permitting, I also plan to print up recipe cards with what I found to be the perfect pie crust.

Note: 1% of the money raised for my book will be donated back to Pubslush to support literacy programs.

3 weeks until Xmas Eve!

Hard to believe, but there are only three weeks before Christmas Eve.

I confess: I like Christmas Eve better than Christmas Day. There’s something about the magicalness of anticipation: gifts wrapped waiting to reveal what’s inside, the tree sparkling at night with lights and ornaments with presents stacked at its base. And by the time Christmas Eve comes along, whatever you didn’t get done for Christmas, you may as well just resign to the fact that you missed the deadline and enjoy the evening – with a cup of spiked eggnog.

For those of you who are still trying to get Christmas done – and have the habit of putting things off until the last minute – have I got a book for you. The Night Before the Night Before Christmas is a children’s picture book, but it appeals to all ages. It’s about a family who’s rocket-sledding into the holiday while Mom has the flu. All appears to be total chaos until the family realizes what’s most important about Christmas.

Holiday Humor

Holiday Humor

Here’s a fun read for after the Christmas chaos where the overwhelmed mom is saved by Mrs. St. Nick.

To make you feel better, even Santa is under pressure at Christmas! How would you like to find out that you missed a whole city of kids and had to work your elves overtime to make toys? That’s what happens when Santa learns of the merchildren in The Legend of Christmas Island.

Kindle edition

We all start off the season with a Norman Rockwell or Martha Stewart image of how we’d like Christmas to turn out. But let’s get real and enjoy the holidays however we can with a sense of humor.

Over the River and Across the Plains

“I used Grammarly’s online plagiarism checker because it has given my sentences a whole new meaning.” Without it, Eat, Pray, Love would be Eat Prey, Love.

Tis the time of the year to go over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house we go. As a child, I loved that saying, because we literally did just that as we drove from Connecticut to my grandparents’ farm in Massachusetts. This year my husband and I are going over the Poudre River and across wide open spaces to Oklahoma to spend Thanksgiving with my cousin’s family and my aunt. (Who knows. It might inspire another story.)

On Wednesday, the night before Thanksgiving, Cousin Meg and I are making four pies – pecan, pumpkin, chocolate pudding, and Key Lime using our dear grandmother’s recipe. For the pecan pie, we’re using nuts picked from my uncle’s tree – yum! And I’m bringing a recipe for Spicy Nuts so we can make some very addictive snacking treats using pecans.

If you’re also making a pecan pie and have leftover nuts, here’s the recipe. It’s super easy and great for football games.

Spicy Nuts

1 lb pecan halves

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

2 T tabasco sauce

1/4 tsp cinnamon

dash of ground cumin

1-1/2 tsp salt

2 T canola oil

2 T Kahlua (optional, but not for this cook)

Mix all in a bowl or bag. Lay out in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake 8-1/2 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool.

This story is based on Thanksgivings at my grandma's house.

After your Thanksgiving with your family, I would love to read your version of The Night Before Thanksgiving. So send me a whole poem, a few stanzas, or funny things that happened. I’d love to hear from you!

Gobble, gobble.
