A Whisper of Blood

Ellen Datlow's anthology A WHISPER OF BLOOD (1991) follows up her earlier volume BLOOD IS NOT ENOUGH (1989). "Whisper" is entirely accurate, because very few of these stories feature literal bloodsuckers. Most of them involve some kind of energy draining or even vampirism as metaphor. In her introduction, Datlow declares that her selections focus mainly on "the negative relationships themselves."

Emma by Jane Austen
"As far as Jane Austen goes there’s Pride and Prejudice and then there’s the rest of her books. This may have a lot to do with who’s played Mr. Darcy in the various film and television adaptations or it may just be because it’s one of the best books e" Read more of this review »

My father-in-law, Chuck, was very sick from his last bout with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I quit nursing school to take care of him and knew he was dying. My family didn't, and it was really stressful. I took walks to decompress and thought about him on See Jeny’s answer.

Margaret Carter As much as I love physical bookstores, it was so often a frustrating experience to look for a book in a store and not find it. Especially backlist novels by long-established authors. Online, almost anything is available.

Janice So far, I have, but it looks like that there are certain books I can't get otherwise....oh, well. Have a great day.

Margaret Carter I don't know how I'd get along without it. :)

Janice Happy New Year, and I may join Amazon, in 2018.

Margaret Carter As I mentioned, they're not likely to be in used-book stores (except maybe the Harlequin novel, EMBRACING DARKNESS), but there are plenty on Amazon.

Janice Thank you much. I'll try it, and I make check some of the used bookstores. Have a great day.

Margaret Carter Alas, quite a few of my books are presently in limbo because two publishers closed. If you like "good guy vampires," I hope you might like my "Vanishing Breed" vampire universe. Best one to start with is DARK CHANGELING:

Here's the publisher that's rereleasing many of the books. The newest, CRIMSON DREAMS, is a vampire romance:

You won't find my books in actual bookstores, as they are all e-books; they were also released in print, but with the new publisher not having put them back into paperback yet, that's not an option now -- except that you might find used trade paperbacks online, but not in bookstores.

Amazon has lots of used copies of my one Harlequin vampire romance, EMBRACING DARKNESS.

Janice I expect I will, as I love books about good guy/good gal shifters I guess I'll have to special order them. I don't recall seeing the in Barnes & Noble, which is the only non-used bookstore I've been able to get to lately. Have a great day.

Margaret Carter Thanks, I hope you will like some of them.

Janice Thank you for friending me. I haven't yet read any of your books, but I've been quite curious. Have a great day.
