Where is my pet? Is he okay?

The querent and her husband had just relocated to a new home in a city a few hours from where they had been living.  On the day of the move she could not find her pet at the new location and thought that the cat was either in the home, hiding because it was a foreign environment, or that her pet had sneaked of the house as the movers were going in and out.  Her worry was that if the cat had run off in the new neighborhood, she might never see him again.  Being an amateur astrologer, she decided to cast a horary chart about the whereabouts and condition of the cat. Here is the chart with Regiomontanus houses and Dorothean terms.

It is a Venus day during a Sun hour.  The Sun trines the Cancer Ascendant from watery Pisces in the 9th of long trips.  The Sun also rules Leo, a sign associated with cats.

The Ascendant at 20 Cancer 23 makes the Moon the signifier of the querent.  The Moon in Scorpio (the Moon’s fall) in the 5th house reflects the querent’s distress about the missing pet.   The Moon is also close to Valens Lot of Accusation (Ascendant + Mars – Saturn, by day) at 28 Scorpio 22, which has to do with screw-ups, failures, misfortune, injury and being away from home (see previous post).

The 5th house often has to do with children, but in this case the children were grown and not involved in the situation.  It may be that the cat acted as a substitute child for this older couple.

The twelfth-part (dodecaemorion) of the Ascendant lies in early Pisces on the 9th house cusp.  The querent is worried about something related to a long trip.  Neptune in Pisces probably indicates the confusion engendered in both the querent and the cat by the move.  The ruler of Pisces is Jupiter, which occupies the 4th house of the family home.

The missing cat is shown by Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, on the cusp of the 6th house. Saturn in the 6th most likely symbolizes the cat’s distress about the move.

Jupiter, the ruler of the cat, lies in the 4th (the family home or estate) in Libra (ruled by benefic Venus) and in his own Dorothean terms.  Jupiter is retrograde (moving backward, symbolizing a return) and is applying to trine the Ascendant in under a degree.  The pet should return soon.

The Moon is a universal signifier of strays, but in this chart it specifically represents the querent because of the Cancer Ascendant. The Moon’s last aspect was a trine to the Sun in Pisces in the 9th.  Perhaps the Moon’s recent trine Sun (ruler of Leo, the king cat) points to the querent’s last contact with the cat.  The Moon (querent) is about to change signs from Scorpio into Sagittarius (the Whole Sign 6th house of pets), and upon changing signs the Moon will sextile the 4th house cusp of the family home and landed property.

The outcome was that the querent continued to look for her cat throughout the day.  She was also involved with her husband in the process of moving, so her search was intermittent.  There seemed to be no sign of the cat anywhere inside the home, so she assumed it had gone outside.  An hour or so after sunset, she heard a meow at the door, and there was her missing cat wanting to come in.  The cat returned with Libra (the horary 4th containing Jupiter, the cat) on the Ascendant and the Moon having just moved into Sagittarius, the 6th house cusp of the horary chart.

Here is the chart with the dodecatemoria of the horary placements around the outside of the wheel.

Twelfth-parts in Horary

The ancient Babylonians and the Hellenistic astrologers used twelfth-parts (dodecatemoria) of the signs of the zodiac.  The idea is that each sign can be projected onto the entire zodiac circle, with each 2.5 degrees (twelfth-part) of a sign being projected onto an entire sign of the horoscope wheel.

In the system of Manilius, the first 2.5 degrees of a sign is projected onto the sign itself, the 2nd 2.5 degrees onto the following sign, etc.  Thus, for example, the first 2.5 degrees of Virgo would project onto all of Virgo, the second 2.5 degrees of Virgo onto the next sign Libra, the third 2.5 degrees of Virgo onto the next sign Scorpio, and so on around the wheel.

Paulus of Alexandria (4th century CE) thought it was more reasonable to begin the projection from the point in the zodiac at which planet you were studying was located. For example, using Virgo again, suppose Mars occupied 4 degrees of Virgo, which happens to be part of the second 2.5 degree segment of Virgo.  In  this case the first 2.5 degrees of Virgo would be projected to the previous sign, Leo.  The segment containing Mars (the second 2.5 degrees of Virgo) would be projected onto Virgo itself, the third 2.5 degrees of Virgo would be projected onto the next sign Libra, and so on around the wheel.

From what I have seen in the literature, most astrologers tend to use the system of Manilius.

Now to the use of twelfth-parts in horary.  Masha’allah in writing about “hidden things” noted that the twelfth-part of the Ascendant of a horary chart would reveal the querent’s concerns and intentions in consulting the astrologer.  He gave an example of the Ascendant in the 12th degree of Aries, which lies in the fifth 2.5 segment of Aries.  Hence the 5th Whole Sign house from Aries, which is Leo, reveals the querent’s concern or intention.  In his example there were no planets in Leo, so he looked to the ruler of Leo, the Sun, which happened to fall in Libra in the 7th Whole Sign house from Aries.  Masha’allah concluded that the querent wanted to know about a child (5th house) who was seeking the querent’s wife (7th house).  Had a planet been located in Leo, Masha’allah would have incorporated the meaning of that planet into his interpretation.

To test this theory, I looked for a published horary that was difficult to interpret to see if the twelfth-part would add additional information.  I found such a chart on the site of astrologer Christopher Magus.  The gist of the question was that Christopher had misplaced his keys and was unable to find them despite a very careful week-long search of his house.  He finally decided to cast a horary chart at 10:17 AM EDT, on 18 August 2012, at coordinates 40N35, 73W40.

After analyzing the chart, Christopher was able to find the keys. He had last seen them two weeks earlier, when he went with his partner to a confirmation service at a church in a seaside resort two hours from his home.  He brought a change of clothes to wear after the formal church service, but he was not feeling well because of recent surgery, so he and his partner decided to go home.  Because of the pain from surgery, he took some pain medication which probably affected his memory of the event.  As a result, he assumed the keys were in one the pockets of his informal clothing, which he mis-remembered wearing, and instead found them in the pocket of his more formal black suit which was in an upstairs closet.

Here is Christopher’s horary chart with the dodecatemoria (Maniulius method) around the outside of the wheel.

(Chart and table below are cast using the program AstroSpica by Elías D. Molins.)

Christopher is the querent, signified by the Ascendant at 14 Libra 14, ruled by Venus.  The missing keys are a 2nd house possession, signified by Mars because Scorpio is on the cusp.

Mars in Libra in the 1st house suggests that the keys are in his home and that he will find them. Libra, an air sign, could indicate a location in an upstairs room.  The first how has to do with one’s appearance and Libra is associated with fashion and looking good, so the location of the keys in the pocket of his formal suit makes sense.

The twelfth-part of Venus, the Ascendant ruler, lies in Scorpio, indicating a mutual reception between Mars in Libra and the dodecatemorion of Venus in Scorpio.  This is yet another testimony that he will find the keys.

The 12th part of Mars (the keys) lies in Leo on the Regiomontanus cusp of the 12th house of confinement due to illness.  His recent surgery was the reason the took pain medication which made it hard to remember where he put the keys.  The dodecatemorion of Mars is disposed by the Sun, whose own 12th part is conjunct Jupiter in the 9th of long trips and church services. (Mars also rules the 7th house of his partner who played an inadvertent role in the misplacement of the keys.)

Now let’s look at the 12th part of the Ascendant and apply the reasong of Masha’allah.  As the table below indicates, the 12th part of 14 Libra 14 lies at 20 Pisces 50 (the sixth Whole Sign from the Ascendant), which happens to lie on the 6th house Regiomontanus cusp of illness in the decan and terms of Mars (the keys). Somehow an illness or an ill person (he recently had surgery) is connected with the missing keys. In addition, Neptune in Pisces in the 6th Whole Sign from Libra indicates that a drug played a role (he took a pain killer which affected his memory of where he left the keys). The traditional ruler of Pisces is Jupiter, which lies in the 9th house of long trips and church services, which is where he last saw the keys.

In summary, the 12th parts do seem do add another dimension to horary analysis.  In this case, they point to an ill person (6th house) taking medication which affected his cognition to the extent that he could not remember (Neptune in 6th) where he put the keys on a trip to a church service in a distant location (9th house). It appears that Masha’allah knew what he was doing.

An incidental but interesting feature of this chart is that Valen’s “Lot of Accusation” (sometimes called the Lot of Infortune and indicated in this chart by the red cross on the ASC) at 15 Libra 58 lies on the Ascendant and receives a square from the Asc-ruler Venus in Cancer, suggesting that Christopher will have trouble finding the lost object, and perhaps that its being misplaced is related to being away from home.  According to Curtis Manwaring:

“Lot of Accusation:

[Day] Lot = Ascendant + Mars – Saturn
[Night] Lot = Ascendant + Saturn – Mars

According to Valens this lot indicates the house [sign] through which the native is likely to experience failure, dangers, or downfalls. This lot is also known as the lot of injury and sometimes the lot of being away from home.” (italics mine)

The twelfth-part of of the Lot of Infortune/Accusation happens to lie in the 7th Whole Sign from the Ascendant, representing his partner who was inadvertently involved in the misplacement of the keys (Mars) while the two of them were away from home.  The dodecatemorion of this Lot near Uranus suggests that an unexpected change of plans involving his partner may also have been a factor.

More than one way to skin a cat …

Recently I came across a review of a presentation given by John Frawley, in which Sarah Laurent (17 October 2003) mentions a horary chart which John discussed:

“Several years ago he moved, and the family cat disappeared. So he cast a horary chart with the question “where is the missing cat?” A horary chart is cast for the time and place the question registers in the astrologer’s brain. Everything in the universe can be described by a house, and cats are in the 6th house. (Animals smaller than goats are in the 6th house; larger are in the 12th.) In this instance, Jupiter was in the 6th and it ruled the 6th. Therefore, the cat was in its old home and, since Jupiter is a great benefic, the cat was happy. Jupiter was also Rx and in Pisces. Retrograde: is the cat coming back? Yes. In Pisces: the cat was either wet or very comfortable. Since the cat was happy, it must not have been wet.”

There seemed something discrepant about this description of the horary, so I checked John’s Horary Textbook, and sure enough the story is slightly different.  Frawley writes:

“Next door’s cat had been gradually moving into my house.”  Thus, in John’s analysis of the horary chart, he treats the missing cat as a purely 6th house matter, as if he were the cat’s owner.  But, in fact, the animal was simply a neighborhood cat, and Frawley does not mention that he had any special familiarity or relationship with the cat’s owner.

In such a case William Lilly would most likely use the 7th house (see Christian Astrology Chap. XXIV) to represent the cat’s owner and the 12th house (6th from the 7th) to signify the cat.  The data for the chart in the Horary Textbook is 30 August 1993 at 9:20 AM in London.  Here is the chart as Lilly would have drawn it with Regiomontanus houses and the seven visible planets:

Frawley keeps the analysis simple. The question is about a generic cat ruled by the 6th house with Pisces on the cusp.  Jupiter thus rules the cat who is at home and quite comfortable in in its domicile Pisces in the 6th.  Jupiter Rx means that the cat will return to visit John at his home.  The Moon, a universal signifier of fugitives, will sextile the Asc (the querent) in one degree from a mutable sign and cadent house, so the cat should revisit him in about 24 hours. A clear and elegant interpretation.

What would happen if we regarded the cat as belonging to a nonspecific person who lived nearby.  Lilly would assign the 7th house to such a person, with whom we have no particular relationship or personal alliance.  In this case, the cat would be represented by the Virgo 12th house, ruled by Mercury.

Mercury is in Leo in the radical 10th (the 4th of the 7th), so the cat is in warm and cozy (Leo) its owner’s home.  Mercury in Leo (the sign ruled by the king of cats) is headed toward Venus in feline Leo, so the missing cat may be hanging out with other cats, perhaps with the nice female cat that he’s had his eye on.

Venus also rules the Ascendant (the querent, John Frawley), so the cat may be paying him a visit within a couple of days since Mercury and Venus are separated by less than 2 degrees. In addition, the Moon is near the boundary between the 10th and 11th houses, so the cat is about to leave his master’s home (the radical 10th, 4th of the 7th) and go to a place where he can have some fun and fool around (the radical 11th, 5th of the 7th).

Lilly often utilized transits to tell timing.  In this case, the Moon is a co-ruler of the querent, and the Moon is applying by transit to Mercury, the neighborhood cat. Here are the aspects which the transiting Moon makes to horary Mercury and to transiting Mercury over the next few days.

From this list, Lilly would conclude that the cat would likely return to visit John Frawley the morning of August 31st, perhaps around 6 or 7 AM, but most likely within 24 hours because the Moon is separated from a sextile to the Ascendant by exactly 1 degree of arc.  In fact, the cat returned just under 24 hours after the original horary was cast.

Britain officially files to divorce the EU

On March 28, 2017 Theresa May signed the letter informing the EU of its intention to leave the European Union.  The clock in the photo of her signing reads 4:37 PM BST.

Here is the chart for the time on the clock.  Note the angular Neptune, the planet of dissolution, in the 7th house of partnership.

According to Metro.co.uk, the letter was delivered on March 29, 2017 at 12:20 PM local time:

“British EU envoy Tim Barrow delivered a letter by hand to the European Council at 12.20 pm this afternoon, triggering Article 50 which starts the formal divorce process from the union.”

The letter was originally scheduled to be delivered at 12:30 PM local time in Brussels: “It will be delivered to the European Council in Brussels at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday local time (6:30 a.m. Wednesday ET), NBC News’ British partner ITV News reported.”

Here is the chart for the official delivery of the intention to divorce:

And here is the same chart with Whole Sign Houses:

Some striking features of this “divorce” chart are:

Cardinal signs on all the angles.
Cancer (ruled by the Moon) on the Ascendant.
Neptune in Pisces in the 9th conjunct the MC.
Pluto in Capricorn in the 7th conjunct the DSC.
Moon conjunct Mercury in Aries in the 10th almost exactly trine Saturn in Sagittarius in the 6th.
Jupiter Rx in Libra in the 4th mutually applying to square Pluto in Capricorn in the 7th.
Jupiter Rx in Libra in the 4th as the exalted ruler of the Ascendant disposed by Venus Rx in Aries (the sign of its detriment) in the 10th.  Venus is also combust the Sun.

It seems to me that the key aspect in this divorce chart in Jupiter Rx in Libra in the 4th of foundations and family square Pluto in Capricorn in the 7th of contractual relationships. This is a stressful aspect, especially for relationships.  Here is a typical interpretation of some of the difficulties of this aspect from the site of astrologer Kelli Fox (italics mine);

“You’ll want to cooperate and support each other as each of you tries to reach your goals, become more self-aware and make your dreams come true; but if you aren’t careful, you may get stuck in power struggles instead. Somehow, teamwork won’t come naturally to you, even if normally you’re both good at working with other people … but it’s possible that in this particular pairing, each of you will see your partner’s successes as somehow a threat to your ownas if only one of you can be the achiever at any given time.”

An interesting horary

Today my wife was about to leave home when she was unable to find her car keys.  Since she had a meeting to get to, she needed to leave on time.  We both began to look for the keys and it occurred to me to cast a quick chart for some celestial guidance.  She normally keeps the keys in her rather large (to my mind) pocketbook but she couldn’t find them in there.  Here is the chart:

My wife usually asks me to do a chart when she can’t find something, so I anticipated her request and cast the chart even before she asked.  Then I wasn’t sure whether I should regard myself or her as the querent.

The ruler of the querent is the Moon, which rules the Ascendant.  The keys would be shown by the Sun, which rules the 2nd house of movable goods.  Mercury is a natural ruler of keys, so he could also be a significator.

The Moon (a natural signifier of women and wives) is separating from the Sun, which makes sense because she had misplaced the keys. The Moon is combust, which probably reflects her pressured state to find the keys so she could get to her meeting on time.  The Moon’s next aspect to a visible planet will be an opposition to Jupiter in the 4th of hidden treasure (her missing keys?) and then a conjunction to Mercury (a natural signifier of keys).

If I am the querent, then my wife is the 7th house ruler Saturn and her keys are ruled by the 8th house, which is also ruled by Saturn in Sagittarius (a fire sign like Aries) in the 6th house.  In horary I view the 6th house as one of compartmentalization, and often the signifier of the missing object in the 6th indicates that it has been placed into some kind of container or compartment.  The Moon will eventually trine Saturn before she leave Aries.  If Mercury rules the keys, then Mercury will trine Saturn in 1 degree 22 minutes of arc.

The angles of the chart are all cardinal signs, suggesting a rapid resolution.  The key significators (no pun intended) are in Aries in the 10th house, so the keys should be in the home and in a place she would normally keep them.  The emphasis on Aries suggested the color red.  Noticing that her purse was a burnt orange color,  I suggested that she completely dump out the contents of her pocketbook because the chart suggested that the keys would be therein but obscured but some other thing because the Moon (a general signifier of something  missing) was obscured by the rays of the Sun.

The 4th house indicates hidden treasure (her keys?), and the ruler of the 4th can give clues to its location.  With Libra on the cusp, the ruler of the 4th is Venus, which is Retrograde in Aries in the 10th.  Again there is an emphasis on Aries (things that are hot and reddish in color) and the 10th, a location in the home or office where the querent might normally keep the object.  She always takes her pocketbook with her to work-related meetings.

Between 2 and 3 minutes later she found her keys hidden by some of the countless things she carries in her purse, and so she was able to leave on time to get to her meeting.  Given the outcome, it seems to me that Mercury signified the keys in this chart (perhaps indicated by Mercury being in parallel of declination with the royal fixed star Regulus).  The applying trine between Mercury and Saturn suggested that she would find the keys in under 2 minutes.  She recovered the keys at 12:29 PM and a few seconds, and I noticed at that time that the Part of Fortune (another symbol of one’s property) was exactly square Mercury in the 10th.

The Demotion of Pluto to Dwarf Planet

There is some uncertainty about the exact time at which the IAU (International Astronomical Union) voted to downgrade Pluto to the status of “dwarf” planet.  The vote took place during the afternoon session of 24 August 2006 in Prague.

IAU 2006 General Assembly: Result of the IAU Resolution Votes

Maggie Hyde argued for 03:44:29 pm CEST (4:44:29 PM CEDT) as a time of the demotion of Pluto. Writing in the ISAR e-zine vol. 408, she notes that “A fascinating video of the IAU session which voted to demote Pluto is available online at: http://www.astronomy2006.com/media-stream-archive.php.”  She assumed that the start of the afternoon session began exactly on time and reported that if you fast-forward to 1:44:29 hours of the video, you come to the point where the Chair announces the motion carried on Resolution 6A concerning Pluto as a dwarf planet. This gives the demotion map a time of 03:44:29 pm CEST,  24 August 2006, Prague.  The problem with Maggie Hyde’s argument is that the afternoon session most likely did not begin on time. Have you ever attended a conference where meetings began precisely at the time indicated?

In fact, the science writer Robert Roy Britt published his “scoop” about the demotion of Pluto on space.com at exactly 9:35 AM EST (10:35 AM EDT) on 24 August 2006. The time in Prague at the moment of publication of this news scoop was 4:35 PM CEDT, almost a full 10 minutes before the time estimated by Maggie Hyde.  It appears from the content of the article that Mr. Britt was attending the IAU conference when he posted online at 4:35 PM CEDT that “Officially, Pluto is no longer a planet.”  Since he was writing a breaking news story, the vote must have just taken place, and it probably occurred no more than a few minutes earlier. Clearly the vote could not have occurred after the posting of his article.  Thus, Maggie Hyde’s estimate is at least 10 minutes after the fact.

Let’s assume that it took Robert Roy Britt about two minutes to post his breaking news online. This would make the time of Pluto’s demotion about 4:33 PM CEDT and no later than 4:35 PM when the news was posted.  Here is the chart for 4:33 PM CEDT, which is probably very close to the actual time of Pluto’s fall from grace.  It is a Jupiter day during a Sun hour.  The Sun in this chart rules the 8th house of death.

It is striking that at the time of his undoing as a planet Pluto has just crossed the Ascendant and has entered the 12th house of sorrow, exile and endings.  Pluto is also in retrograde motion.

There is a strong 8th house emphasis, which probably signifies the death of the idea of Pluto as a full-fledged planet.  Mars, which rules the 4th house of one’s elders and foundations, applies to square Pluto from the 8th of death.  Pluto will no longer be accepted as a member of the family of “classical” 4th-house planets.

The 9th house represents science and higher learning.  With Virgo on the cusp, the 9th house is ruled by Mercury which applies closely to trine Pluto.  The scientists were focused passionately on Pluto in this meeting.  Interestingly, the Hellenistic Lot of Eros lies at 23 Leo 13, almost exactly conjunct Mercury at 23 Leo 36.  Apparently the scientists were deriving some sort of erotic pleasure in demoting Pluto from his planet-hood.  Or, to use the Freudian metaphor, the IAU astronomers were erotically engaged in castrating this planetary symbol of an ancient godhead.

Pluto may have the last laugh.  He is quite strong being conjunct the horizon.  Pluto is also disposed by the benefic Jupiter in the prominent 10th.  The phoenix rising from its ashes is often associated with Pluto’s planetary symbolism, so perhaps this chart also indicates that Pluto will rise again.

If anyone has evidence of an exact time of the vote to demote Pluto, please leave a comment in the space below.

Astrology and sexual orientation

This is a summary of a talk given by Spanish astrologer Elías D. Molins in Barcelona in June of 2015 at the 32º Congreso Ibérico de Astrología. The topic of discussion was Astrology and Homosexuality.

Elías begins by reviewing his use of fixed stars, dodecatemoria (twelfth parts) and antiscia in the interpretation of natal charts.  From AstroDataBank he extracted the natal chart data of 2040 homosexual men and 418 lesbian women. He then calculated the statistical distribution of various astrological factors, looking for commonalities. His statistical findings include the following:

SUN:

Most often in House XII (278 charts), House I (263 charts), and the sign Cancer (242 charts.
Least often in House VIII (166),  House IX (162) and House VI (152).

MERCURY:

Most often in House XII (292) and House I (249).
Least often in the sign Pisces (171) and House VII (169).

VENUS:

Most often in Aries (252), Cancer (244) or Virgo (261).
Least often in Sagittarius (161) and Pisces (170).

MARS:

Most often in Cancer (245), Leo (249) or Virgo (266).
Least often in Capricorn (162), Aquarius (157) or Pisces (155).

JUPITER:

Most often in Sagittarius (250) or Scorpio (243).
Least often in Leo (169) and Pisces (162).

SATURN:

Most often in Leo (290), Virgo (306) or Libra (284).
Least often in Pisces (130) or Aries (126).

ASCENDANT:

Most often in Virgo (270), Leo (251), Scorpio (250 or Libra (244).
Least often in Taurus (149), Pisces (137) or Aries (119).

DODECATEMORIA OF THE LUNAR NODES (in order of frequency):

AIR signs: Gemini (359), Libra (319), Aquarius (300).
WATER signs: Pisces (250), Scorpio (205), Cancer (183).
EARTH signs: Virgo (169), Capricorn (151), Taurus (144).
FIRE signs: Leo (137), Sagittarius (127), Aries (114).

ASPECTS:

MOON opposite VENUS , either by zodiacal position or by dodecatemoria. The antiscia and fixed stars can also play a role.
MERCURY conjunct or opposite the NORTH LUNAR NODE , by zodiacal position or by dodecatemoria. The antiscia and fixed stars can also play a role.

Here is a sample natal chart from the study with antiscia outside the wheel:

Feb 2, 1985 at 11:35 AM in Barcelona. (Chart cast using Elías D. Molins program AstroSpica.)

Note the Moon opposite Venus, and also the antiscion of Mercury conjunct the south lunar node.

Overall these are interesting findings and bear further testing. Checking these results against files in my own database, I did not find the distribution of planets in signs and houses to be especially helpful, but the Moon/Venus opposition and the Mercury/Lunar Nodes contacts do seem to hold water.  In addition, the placement of the dodecatemoria of the lunar nodes in air and water signs also seems significant.  Here is a listing of the positions of the above chart. Note that the dodecatemorion of the North Lunar Node lies in Aquarius, an AIR sign.

An interesting horary: ¿Mi amor va a volver?

Browsing videos in YouTube about horary, I came across an interesting chart posted by Ignacio Lunar from Argentina.  A man asked whether there was any future to his relationship with a woman who had recently left him.  Will she return?  The chart is set for Buenos Aires, 5 February 2011, at 9:10 PM, with Placidus houses.  I decided to cast the chart with Whole Sign houses to see if it would give the same result.

Here is the Whole Sign chart:

The querent is shown by the Virgo Ascendant and has Mercury in Aquarius in the 6th as his ruler.

The quesited (the ex-girlfriend) is represented by the 7th house with Pisces on the cusp and the Moon and Uranus therein.  Her rulers are cusp-ruler Jupiter and the Moon.

There is no aspect forming between the querent (Mercury) and either Jupiter or the Moon (the ex’s rulers), so it seems unlikely that she will return.  In addition, the Moon’s last aspect to a visible planet was a sextile to Venus, the goddess of love and a general signifier of relationships (the matter of the question).  The Moon’s next aspect is a conjunction with Uranus in the 7th of partnerships, a general symbol of a break-up or disruption in a relationship.

In the Whole Sign chart, the 7th-ruler Jupiter has entered the querent’s 8th house of death, which suggests that the relationship is over and done with.

Interestingly, the hellenistic Lot of Eros (love) lies at 28 Gemini 38 and its ruler is Mercury, which also rules the querent who is pining for his lost love.  Mercury in Aquarius will not reunite with either Jupiter or the Moon, the rulers of his ex-girlfriend.

John Frawley recommends looking at the Lot of Marriage, which he defines at Asc + Dsc – Venus.  Doing the calculation: 14 Virgo 19  +  14 Pisces 19  –  1 Capricron 59  =  26 Scorpio 39, which is ruled by Mars.  In other words, Mars represents the quality of the relationship.  In this horary, Mars lies in Aquarius in the unfortunate 6th house and is combust the Sun.  In fact, Mars has just ceased being cazimi (a positive state within 17.5′ of arc of the Sun), and now the Sun’s rays are giving Mars an intense burn.  This parallels the man’s situation.  His girlfriend has recently left him and he’s now in a bad state.  She has recently “toasted” him, so to speak.

It is also noteworthy that the Part of Marriage at 26 Scorpio 29 is almost exactly conjunct the antiscion of Mercury (signifier of the querent and of the Lot of Eros or Love) which lies at 26 Scorpio 44.  Thus, Mercury represents both the querent and his prospects for love and marriage in this chart.  Mercury is about to enter under the beams of the Sun and its next applying aspect will be to Mars, scorched by its proximity to the hot Sun.  In fact, transiting Mercury reaches the position of horary Mars on February 14th, Valentine’s Day!

All in all, it doesn’t look like this couple will be reuniting any time soon.

The 2017 Aries Ingress and the Terrorist Attack in London

The Aries Ingress of March 20, 2017 in London had Moon-ruled Cancer rising and no planets in the first house.  Cancer is also the sign of the next angle after the Sun, so Morinus would consider the Moon the Lady of the Year.  Here is the chart with Whole Sign houses.

With the Moon ruling the year 2017 in the UK, we expect some type of difficulty to arise fairly quickly after the Ingress because the Moon is applying to conjoin Saturn in the unfortunate 6th house.  The Moon and Saturn are only 04 minutes of arc apart, and the 6th house is traditionally a place of open enemies who might attack whoever is represented by the 1st house.

After her conjunction with Saturn in the 6th, the Moon proceeds by transit through the 7th where she will conjoin Pluto in Capricorn in the 7th of open enemies (modern meaning), again suggesting some kind of attack by a Plutonian adversary.  Pluto is, of course, disposed by Saturn in the 6th.  During her passage through the 7th of open enemies, the Moon will square the cluster of planets in the 10th house of the government and authority figures.

The attack by automobile began on Westminster Bridge in London on Wednesday March 22, 2017 at 2:40 pm.  According to news reports, “five people died, including the attacker, and at least 50 people were injured in a terror attack near the Houses of Parliament on 22 March.”

Here is the chart for the first moment of the attack superimposed on the Aries Ingress for London of March 20th.

As you can see, the transiting Moon at the time of the attack lies in the 7th house and is in close square with Uranus (both Ingress Uranus and transiting Uranus) in the 10th.  In fact, the Moon is making its final square to the group of planets in the 10th.

Prior to squaring Uranus in Aries in the 10th (sudden aggressive action directed toward government), the Moon had conjoined Pluto in Capricorn in the 7th of open enemies.  This is rather perfect symbolism for a terrorist attack against the powers that be.

The transiting Angles often indicate timing.  Here the transiting MC is almost exactly sextile Neptune in the 9th of foreign countries, and the transiting ASC is trine Uranus in Aries in the 10th.

The USA Gemini rising chart revisited

Over the years I have used the USA Gemini rising chart with good results and have tweaked it to about 2:13:48 AM LMT (a 7 Gemini 27 ASC).

Other astrologers, like  Don and Jayj Jacobs, have rectified this chart to 2:14:14 AM LMT (a 7 Gemini 35 ASC) and also reported excellent results:  “Don ‘Moby Dick The Astrologer’ Jacobs – my dad – and I, and all my subsequent partners, in presenting the Annual Prediction Seminars have used 7 Gemini 35 for the US Ascendant on July 4, 1776, since 1971. Our media measured accuracy rate of >95% validates that chart & Asc. As do my recent Afghan-Special Ops predictions. Moby (with my assistance) predicted the entire Watergate scenario before the fact and to the day, week after week in a nationally syndicated column. For that he got a place on Nixon’s Enemies list & an FBI file.”  Given my own experience and the accurate published predictions of the Jacobs, I think a symbolic birth time of about 2:14 AM LMT produces a very effective chart.

Let me give an example of my use of the chart.  In late 2000 I was contacted by the editors of StarIQ.com with a request for my predictions for 2001.  Noticing that a solar eclipse was occurring near the 2000 winter solstice and close to the beginning of the New Year, I superimposed the eclipse chart for Washington, DC, (the current seat of government) on the USA Gemini rising birth chart for Philadelphia.  I was reading a lot of Lilly and Morinus at the time, so I had my computer set for Regiomontanus houses.   Here is the combined chart:

I noticed immediately that the solar eclipse of December 2000 was occurring almost exactly on the Gemini rising Regiomontanus house of the USA, the MC of the eclipse for Washington was in the 8th house, and the ASC of the eclipse was square to the USA natal Sun.  Here is what I wrote at the very beginning of the year 2000 (this was published online in February 2001 at StarIQ):

“The year 2000 ends with a partial solar eclipse on Christmas Day. Comparing the year 2000 Christmas eclipse to the U.S. Gemini-rising chart, I would make the following predictions for 2001.”

“The eclipse takes place in the U.S. natal Eighth House, suggesting that the nation’s economy will dominate the news during the coming year. With the eclipse chart’s Sun, Moon and Mercury all opposing the natal U.S. Venus and Jupiter in the Second House of money, we can expect a significant economic downturn, most likely a recession within the first six months of 2001.”

“The Eighth is also the house of death. With the eclipse chart Midheaven for Washington, D.C. in the Eighth House and the eclipse chart Saturn in the nation’s Twelfth House of loss and sorrow, there is a likelihood of the death of an important national figure and a period of national mourning in 2001.  In the Astro*Carto*Graphy map of the eclipse, the Saturn, Neptune and Uranus lines pass through the West coast, suggesting that someone in that region (perhaps former president Reagan) may pass on during the coming year.”

I could not even imagine the events of 9-11 at the time I made the prediction based on the Gemini rising chart, but a period marked by death and national mourning seemed apparent in the figure.  It never occurred to me that the “important national figure” whose death I saw in the chart would be the World Trade Center.  Only in hindsight did I realize that when eclipse-ruler Saturn (structure) entered Gemini (the twins) and opposed Pluto (radical transformation) in August of 2001, would the symbolism of the destruction of the twin towers (Pluto opposing Saturn in Gemini) become apparent.  In fact, if we calculate a national chart for the exact moment transiting Saturn opposed Pluto on Aug 5, 2001 and superimpose the Gemini rising chart upon it, we have a quite striking astrological combination:

Transiting Saturn opposed Pluto on 5 AUG 2001, presaging 9-11 with a strong 8th house emphasis (death) at the moment of the transiting Saturn/Pluto opposition in Washington, DC, which also happens to highlight the 1st house (life force, vitality) of the Gemini rising natal chart for the USA. The United States natal Saturn conjoins the 12th house cusp (sorrow, mourning, secret enemies) of the transiting opposition chart.  The ASC of the 1776 Gemini rising chart lies in the 8th house of the transiting Saturn/Pluto opposition chart, and the MC of the Gemini rising chart conjoins the 4th cusp (endings) of the transiting opposition chart cast for our seat of government, Washington, DC.  The USA natal Saturn conjoins the 12th house cusp (secret enemies) of the transiting Saturn-Pluto opposition.  Saturn rules Capricorn where the Solar Eclipse occurred on Christmas of the year 2000.

Another striking feature of the USA Gemini rising chart (for 2:13:30 AM) is that its Astro*Carto*Graphy map has the local space lines of Mars and Uranus passing through New York City, with the Mars line connecting Boston’s Logan Airport with the Twin Towers.  In addition, the Uranus/Asc line (in Mundo) also crosses NYC.

Note the local space Mars line (in red) passing through lower Manhattan and Logan Airport in Boston.  The local space Uranus line (in blue) passes just below NYC and through Long Island.  The Asc/Uranus line in Mundo (white) passes just slightly to the west of NYC.
