MORTAL MUSIC (Silver Rush #7) is out and about

... Let the curtain rise and the music begin!

In this latest book of the Silver Rush series, my protagonist Inez Stannert deals with dastardly doings in the opera world of 1881 San Francisco.
If you'd like to hear some of the music that appears in Mortal Music and a sample of tunes from earlier Silver Rush books, you can check out a recent guest post I wrote for the "Type M for Murder" blog. Read more of this blog post »

I liked this book a great deal. It was very evocative and reminded me of early le Carre a bit... Things unfold slowly and some particulars are never entirely resolved (which actually didn't bother me in this particular novel).

Very much enjoyed this, the first of a new series. Fascinating look at India in the 1920s. Loved the protagonist, Perveen Mistry, and particularly her relationship with her father and family. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
The Diamond in the Window by Jane Langton
"I loved this book when I read it in sixth grade. The story stuck with me through the years -- probably more than any other novel I read at that age. It's spooky and unpredictable and completely engaging. But as much as I liked it, I forgot the title." Read more of this review »

Topics Mentioning This Author

Raymond Chandler
“There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.”

Ann Parker Hello Rosemary!
Thank you! I love to hear that readers are "taken away" for a while when they read my books. I consider that the highest compliment! :-)
Here's hoping your mother enjoys the next two as well...

Rosemary Ann, my mother, who is staying with me to recover from hip surgery, absolutely loves Silver Lies! She is enjoying lots of reading time, and I'm enjoying sharing great books with her. Now, it's time to add Iron Ties and Leaden Skies to our home library. Thanks for brightening up Mama's days.

Rosemary Ann, what a delight to see you on Goodreads! I hope we meet up at the HNS conference in June.
