I'm proud to be the founding marketing director of the USS Midway Museum in San Diego. It was on Midway's flight deck that I first discovered extraordinary courage in uniform by otherwise anonymous heroes. One book has led to another. As a San Diego native (endangered species), I'm honored to help preserve the legacy of service both to country and community.

When I discovered remarkable and anonymous feats of courage by past Midway sailors, it led me onto a path of preserving their legacy. Midway Magic then led to one book after another, each an honor to research and to find a publisher.(less)

Ultimately I spent nearly a week on the same forested ridge in France where the rescue mission took place, imagining the horrific casualties while sitting in foxholes that remain to this day.(less)

“They [442nd Regimental Combat Team] did more than defend America. They helped define America at its best...Rarely has a nation been so well served by a people it has so ill-treated.”
--President Bill Clinton, quoted in Honor Before Glory

“I am tired of the sickening sight of the battlefield with its mangled corpses & poor suffering wounded. Victory has no charms for men when purchased at such cost.”
George McClellandin Blue

“Today we say goodbye to a proud warrior. As we leave, each of us will take our members of [USS} Midway with us...you guys were the 'Magic.' It was a privilege to sail with you.”
XO John Schork quoted in Midway Magic, An Oral History of America's Legendary Aircraft Carrier

“Today, more than 23 million veterans walk among us. Nearly 3 million receive disability compensation, and many more owe their lives to an anonymous corpsman or medic. Millions of Americans and their families are profoundly grateful.”
Scott McGaugh, Battlefield Angels: Saving Lives from Valley Forge to Afghanistan

“Although Higgins's men had finally received some badly needed supplies, some of his wounded were becoming critical, and the overall health of his troops continued to ebb. Meanwhile, the price among the 442nd's battalions paid to reach Higgins's men had reached gut-wrenching levels. And for General Dahlquist, panic would supplant his anger and frustration.”
Scott McGaugh, Honor Before Glory
