Helyna L. Clove (she/her) is a science-fiction/fantasy novelist, and a lover of all types of storytelling, hot comfort drinks, and a universe full of stars.

She was born in Hungary and raised in a small village a few miles off the shores of Lake Balaton. She was often described by her teachers as someone always having “her head in the clouds”, and she spent the first fifteen years of her life mostly consuming books from her parents’ home library, watching some great 90’s sci-fi shows, and working on her eclectic music taste. After several arduous years of obtaining her astrophysics degree, she currently lives in Wales with her small family of a wonderful boyfriend and Puddle, the tortoiseshell cat.

First, I'm working on a dark fantasy duology featuring a lush tropical country, traumatic magical experimentation, a romance between a mage and a magehunter, dead goddesses, and lots of italics-ridden dreams, visions, and flashbacks. :D The first book is written, the second is under outlining. It's the floweriest, most dramatic I'd ever gotten so far.

I'm also re-writing a paranormal horror novella into a novel -- it features three childhood friends-turned-ghosthunters in search of a way to kill the demon who, after a ritual had gone wrong, lives inside them like a parasite. Basically Supernatural X Phasmophobia the video game feat. Eastern-European folk influences and also make it gay. I think this one will be done earlier than the duology. If everything goes well.

There are also other ideas in much earlier developmental phases. Plus some short stories in the Skylark-universe!(less)
Helyna L. Clove I sit down to write, all comfy, coffee and book playlist set up. Ten seconds later, I remember an urgent chore.

“The moment the first missile crashed into the Skylark, Captain Jeane Blake realized she had gravely underestimated the danger they’d gotten themselves into.

The spaceship jolted, and a series of yellow warning messages flashed up on the screens. On the radar display, the markers showing the Lark and the Union vessel hot on its trail flickered in and out of existence in the interference, and the gravitational anomalies of the lane kept throwing both ships off-course. Their pursuer was gaining on them.”

“One might think that when the universe falls to pieces, chaos is inevitable: anarchy, barbarism, and madness would thrive, followed by the destruction of everything meaningful that sentience ever built. And although we know that this has been happening in certain places, something else entirely unexpected transpired as well. The surviving inhabitants of said universe adapted to the situation in a surprisingly swift manner.”

“We should really set up the elevator for this. [...] It's bad enough I have to bring up furniture. When you speak to our mutual friend, ask him if they found anything resembling an alien stepladder in the Arctic.”
